I made it to NOPI Nationals in Atlanta again over this weekend. I saw some pretty cool stuff at the show, including the hydraulics contest and drift contest, plus I took some vidoes of the crazy shit that went down afterwards. We took two cars, a 3rd gen Eclipse GT and an FD.The Eclipse is notable for its Tein SS coilovers and Hytech headers, which you hardly ever see on these cars.I rode in the FD with my friend's dad. I actually got to drive the thing the whole way back on Sunday. I'd figure it's doing maybe 300rwhp at a safely tuned 12psi right now, with a little more potential left in it on the stock twins. On the way down we ran into an NSX and caravaned with him for a while. We actually stopped at a gas station and talked to him, but it turned out he was a huge lying douchebag, as he tried to tell us he ran a 10.2(!) all motor. At that gas station we actually saw three Skylines being trailored down but I didn't manage to get a pic. We got to the hotel and the next morning we headed out. Sitting in traffic on the way we saw a bunch of pretty nice cars. After getting into the show the first thing we saw was the hydraulics contest. This shit was crazy... I just had no idea what I was about to see.The winner of the vertical hop contest made 71 inches. Next came the hydraulic freestyle contest. The purpose is to make the truck "dance" to the music will all sorts of bounces judged on style points. He even managed to flip himself over.Next was the drift contest. This shit was way better than watching idiot highschool kids doing donuts in a parking lot.[image]http://media.putfile.com/100_033932" http://media.putfile.com/100_033932http://media.putfile.com/100_033769This guys must have been JDM tyte y0 because they could drift standing up...We went around and visited some of the dealers and looked at the cars. Of course I had to get a shot of a nice single turbo FD...I liked this 1g DSM. The guy told me he was putting down about 320awhp.Next is the obligatory Supra shot. I took a bunch more pics at the show but I don't have much room left in my photo gallery. Afterwards we went out to eat and then went to cruise a little bit, until we saw everybody was meeting up in this parking lot. The pictures start to get kinda fuzzy here. Some guy had an R33 Skyline GT-S.Then the burnouts began.http://media.putfile.com/100_039546http://media.putfile.com/100_040115This guy in an AMG laid a sick burnout...http://media.putfile.com/100_040429But happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. PWNT.http://media.putfile.com/100_040586The cops kicked us the fuck out after that, and swarmed the whole strip so there was no point in staying. On the way back driving on I-85 we actually saw some guy on a crotch rocket pop a wheelie and hold it for at least 10 or 15 seconds at about 90 mph. Shit was crazy.[Edited on September 22, 2005 at 7:00 PM. Reason : .]

is nopi getting smaller or is it just me. not sure. how's it holding up?

burnouts are so pointless. it's not like it's hard to keep it going once you've started.
9/23/2005 2:27:40 AM
so are wheelies on bikes

well yeah the shit gets pointless... I saw most of this stuff last year. I'm sure I'll be tired of it next year. But it was pretty sweet to get it on video. As far as NOPI getting smaller, well I didn't get that sense. I've only been two years in a row so I don't have a broad enough perspective.

I went to nopi a few years ago, i thought it really sucked. Just a bunch of ricers and people spinning tires and girls signing posters. I don't know why everyone likes it so much. I mean yipee, a R33 GTS-t and a riced out supra... whooptie doo (but thanks for the pics ne ways). Only car I like out of those is the FD you rode there in

There were a shitload of ricers, I agree with that. But the nice cars, the ones without sponsorships, made up for it. I also liked being able to talk with representatives from the various parts dealers.
