ummm...no since the soyuz design predates the moon landings
9/22/2005 12:28:12 PM
if we started using russian equipment it wouldn't really matter when it was designed
9/22/2005 12:50:35 PM
No big deal IMO. Sounds to me like they are doing this so they can keep us in orbit while they design something to replace the current shuttle fleet. Probably cheaper and easier than continuing to service an outdated shuttle that causes horrible press everytime something goes wrong with it.
9/22/2005 1:01:32 PM
Outsourcing 101. No biggie.
9/22/2005 1:06:33 PM
Its not that impressive when you consider the fact that they gave us a warehouse full of soyuz capsules in exchange for 4 bottles of Finlandia and a few pairs of Levi's.

WE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN AHEAD IN SPACE RACE.[/mathfreak]
9/22/2005 4:33:32 PM
did you watch the daily show last night or something?^^
9/22/2005 5:07:43 PM
Let's face it, when it came to putting people and equipment up in space, we may have done it fancier, but the Soviets knew how to do it reliably.
9/22/2005 5:15:10 PM
because there has NEVER been any russian/soviet space mishaps
9/22/2005 5:17:53 PM
Its true that the shuttle system failed its original mission and its continued existence may have attributed to NASA lacking innovation for the better part of the 1990's.This is necessary, however, to continue to use our Space Station. Hopefully with China entering the race the federal government will be spurred into more action.
9/22/2005 5:52:35 PM
I fully expect China's space program to influence NASA's mission and budget in the near future.
9/22/2005 6:27:37 PM
I fully hope no one throws any more money into the great money pit that is outer space.
9/22/2005 7:47:18 PM
Yeah, because we've never reaped any benefits from it.
9/22/2005 8:32:15 PM
In soviet russia, outer space throws money at you!sorry, no one had made a yakov smirnoff reference yet.
9/22/2005 8:35:39 PM

Space pimpin'
9/22/2005 8:50:33 PM
NOW I AIN'T SAYING NASA IS A GOLD DIGGAps"america spent millions developing a pen that would write in space, and what did the russians do? they sent pencils"
9/22/2005 9:59:13 PM
Those things are not exactly "new"

this is like the 40th thread ive seen with that damn, people get a clue....^^

^^ Fossil fuels have sure paid off, however. For example, right now, the most expensive well under development in the United States is going to cost less than $25 a barrel to extract. The owners are currently getting over $50 a barrel. Good heavens! A profit/cost ratio of 50%!! That is unheard of in any industry. You bet your ars we're going to invest money in fossil Fuels!!
9/23/2005 9:02:44 AM
Russia only has a space program to smuggle in Neptunian cigarettes and Martian apparrel.
9/23/2005 9:28:01 AM
Uh, a 50% margin is hardly unheard of in any industry...
9/23/2005 12:45:26 PM
Russia is too poor to continue space exploration so they sell us their docking modulse for the ISS...wow, they sure are pulling ahead
9/23/2005 12:48:37 PM
The Russians are the only ones to be drinking in vodka in space. No seriously, for long trips to the space station they get to bring alittle vodka.
