Right click "My Computer"
Properites
Hardware tab
Click on Device Manager


Do you see the CD burner device show up as not having a driver? If there are problems with the driver it will show up on the list with a yellow exclamation point over the device icon.

the burner shows up under device manager with no problems

lens cleaner, if it still does not work, then scrap it and replace...

they are not expensive.
