Anybody who doesn't love The Flaming Lips has a cold dead heart.

This sounds cool. Aren't they supposed to release on DVD that multi-disc album that you needed a bunch of CD players for to play at the same time. With the DVD, you can play it in 5.1. Its supposedly an incredible experience but few people were able to find and syncronize several CD players.
9/22/2005 12:37:55 PM
Zaireeka. It's stupid to release it on DVD. Half the point is getting together four stereos to listen to it.
9/22/2005 12:41:59 PM
Wayne played in a bubble on MTVThat's entertainment
9/22/2005 12:43:14 PM
oh that'd be cool if they did release that (i think it's called Zaireeka)...i never bothered to get it, cuz i probably wouldn't be able to find 4 stereos to play it on, but i hear it's really cool...
9/22/2005 12:43:33 PM
Do you have a stereo? Do you have three friends?
9/22/2005 12:45:37 PM
i have a stereo, but only 2 friends but seriously, that's kind of a hassle to get people to bring their stereos all to one place...it's a cool concept, but how many times are you really gonna be able to listen to it?
9/22/2005 1:00:26 PM
The Lips did release a couple of the songs on Zaireeka mixed together as Bsides to some Soft Bulletin songs (Race For The Prize at least). I remember two of the songs being Riding To Work In The Year 2025 and 35,000 Feet Of Despair.
9/22/2005 1:03:26 PM
^^ That's not really the point. If it were made to listen to over and over again, they wouldn't have done it the way they did. Some things are better being ephemeral.
9/22/2005 1:19:20 PM
I'm still waiting for that Soft Bulletin DVD-audio to be released...
9/22/2005 1:21:21 PM
isnt liking "the lips" part of freshman orientation?
9/22/2005 1:23:02 PM
ok spookyjon, you convinced me to get it...actually, i just realized that i have 2 computers (with a couple pairs of speakers for them, that have been sitting in my closet) and 2 stereos...so i don't even need any friends to bring over their stereos...i'm excited about this now...

From what I've seen on the internet, the problem has more to do with the different delays between different players when you press play. Sort of like the Darkside/Wizard of Oz thing. There isn't really a way to tell you've done it correctly if you haven't done it before already. Also, I don't think you can just go up to the record store expecting a copy to be waiting for you. I think you'll have to go the ebay route.[Edited on September 22, 2005 at 1:59 PM. Reason : ]

you can get it on amazon for $17
9/22/2005 2:05:11 PM
actually i'm downloading it now from realmusic...it's 5 bucks more than amazon, but i get to hear it today

I've done Zaireeka! before. It's pretty cool, especially when certain sounds swirl across all eight speakers or jump across the room diagonally, but the songs all have big crescendos that get a little frustrating to listen to because of the stereo speed differential mentioned in the booklet. It's still a hell of a fun time and a great excuse to have a party.
9/22/2005 2:45:29 PM
I had a zaireeka party. we got all hyped up for it and everyone had to get in sync. its a blast.
9/23/2005 12:22:37 AM
ok, well i just had my girlfriend over and tried it out...it was really cool...took a while to sync up, but once we figured out all the intricacies of all the stereos and computers involved, we got it to sync up pretty wellone of the cds was a little fast, so we had to resync a few times, but that was pretty easy to do
9/23/2005 12:30:30 AM
i think in an interview, the Lips said they put the albums together a little out of sync on purpose, so its likely you wouldn't play it the same way twice...or something like that
9/23/2005 12:43:05 AM
The CDs are all in sync, but CD players can play at slightly different speeds and also fluctuate. That's what causes the sync problem. If they didn't want them to sync, they wouldn't tell you to re-sync them after every song.
9/23/2005 1:36:11 AM
i don't listen to the "lips" nor do i know anything about this album, but if you were trying to sync something up, why not press PLAY TWICE to start the disc and immediately pause it. that way, each player isn't booting the disc up at its own speed.
