Ok. ive been doing some checking on news sources online as far as the war goes on in iraq. indep. news sources report Horriffic things.. anything from chemical warfare to nail shooting devices in iraq at present, crazy abuses/violence against women , rape, torture, things one would never imagine. We have all seen a glimpse of war crimes with abu gharib, and various other injustices (see amnesty intil report), that people had to endure, whilst everyone is silent cheering on the war and so called 'liberation of iraqi people'. & afhanistan et al. and it seems that what mainstream us media and govt reports is a bunch of twisted lies. and it appears now when brave voices speak, the darkness of what has happened/is happening has become known.

it appears that alot of what goes on is hidden, censored, u name it, we wont see it here. if people actually saw truth, i bet they would proably think different. whats up with that? discuss

indepdt news sources-- Disclaimer -- Graphic images

caution: beware trolls

they are probably already typing angry letters about "liberal conspiracies", the "independent media" being made up, and how you just dont "get it"

most see it this way: mainstream media reports all bad stuff, while apparently in reality kids are running into the arms of soldiers and people are eating american fried chicken and are very happy.

its a minority that actually has these views, but i knew a guy who went over there pretty much all of last year. he had pics that i could barely look at. he says that things might actually be worse in some places than we see on tv. id trust a friend over the news anyday. of course, most dont belive this.

it begins...

'eating american fried chicken and are very happy' it may appear that way, if you are watching cnn for example, but the reality seems much different. think about it for a sec, how would you feel if someone came to your home town and moved in? fried chicken? dont think so.

The site you linked is pretty interesting. Unfortunately, I wouldn't exactly call this reporter "unbiased". Ultimately, its tough to take him too seriously when his main reason for going to Iraq was to make Bush and the major media publications look bad.

Quote :
"I first went to Iraq in November of 2003 as an American citizen both frustrated and horrified by what my unelected government was doing. I went to report on the situation because I was deeply troubled by the “journalism” being provided by the corporate media. "

"eight out of ten big media giants share common memberships on boards of directors with each other. NBC and the Washington Post both have board members who sit on Coca Cola and J. P. Morgan, while the Tribune Company, The New York Times and Gannett all have members who share a seat on Pepsi. It is kind of like one big happy family of interlocks and shared interests. The following are but a few of the corporate board interlocks for the big ten media giants in the US:

New York Times: Caryle Group, Eli Lilly, Ford, Johnson and Johnson, Hallmark,
Lehman Brothers, Staples, Pepsi
Washington Post: Lockheed Martin, Coca-Cola, Dun & Bradstreet, Gillette,
G.E. Investments, J.P. Morgan, Moody's
Knight-Ridder: Adobe Systems, Echelon, H&R Block, Kimberly-Clark, Starwood Hotels
The Tribune (Chicago & LA Times): 3M, Allstate, Caterpillar, Conoco Phillips, Kraft,
McDonalds, Pepsi, Quaker Oats, Shering Plough, Wells Fargo
News Corp (Fox): British Airways, Rothschild Investments
GE (NBC): Anheuser-Busch, Avon, Bechtel, Chevron/Texaco, Coca-Cola, Dell, GM,
Home Depot, Kellogg, J.P. Morgan, Microsoft, Motorola, Procter & Gamble,
Disney (ABC): Boeing, Northwest Airlines, Clorox, Estee Lauder, FedEx, Gillette,
Halliburton, Kmart, McKesson, Staples, Yahoo,
Viacom (CBS): American Express, Consolidated Edison, Oracle, Lafarge North America
Gannett: AP, Lockheed-Martin, Continental Airlines, Goldman Sachs, Prudential, Target,
Pepsi,
AOL-Time Warner (CNN): Citigroup, Estee Lauder, Colgate-Palmolive, Hilton

Can we trust the news editors at the Washington Post to be fair and objective regarding news stories about Lockheed-Martin defense contract over-runs?"

the day we got Popeyes fried chicken in Iraq, I cried and decided to give my firstborn son to US soldiers, I was so happy.

^singing praise allah is so much worse than reciting "one nation under god"

Seems like the situation in Iraq is very peachy!

While falkland, and C16H13N2OCL always report things like:

Quote :
"kids are running into the arms of soldiers and people are eating american fried chicken and are very happy."

... the reality is quite the opposite (and these are just a few of the pics from one website). Imagine how many different pics such as those exist, and then imagine all the scenarios during the past 2.5 years that HAVEN'T been photographed or documented, especially things such as torture, executions, and other war crimes.

Links to graphic and war crime pics (massacres, executions, torture, firing at ambulances, refusing to clean up unexploded munitions, etc).

Fallujah

Quote :
"The IRC estimates that at least 60% of those killed in the assault of Fallujah are women, children and elderly"

Ramadi Massacre

Quote :
"During the winter of 2003, US forces stormed a home in Ramadi of what they concluded were members of the resistance. The family of the home claims that three men, not fighters, were executed at point blank range in front of their family."

Unexploded Munitions

Quote :
"In the Al-Dora region of Baghdad unexploded mortar rounds sit in a farmers' fields. The family claimed that their pleas to the US military to have the mortar rounds removed were refused unless they provided names of resistance fighters."

Detaining Children

Quote :
"In December, 2003, US forces sealed off a secondary school in Amiriyah, Baghdad. 16 school children were detained and questioned because they held a non-violent pro-Saddam demonstration the day before."

Detained, tortured into a coma.

Quote :
"Sadiq Zoman, detained by the US from his home in Kirkuk in July, 2003, was dropped off in a coma at a Tikrit Hospital one month later by US soldiers. He has clear signs of torture. Read more at http://www.dahrjamailiraq.com/weblog/archives/dispatches/000066.php"

Collective Punishment in Al-Dora (burning date palms, destroying gas stations, etc)

Quote :
"While ongoing in January, 2005, US military collective punishment tactics in the Al-Dora region of Baghdad have been ongoing for over a year now."

Conflicting Casualty Counts (Some people believe actual coalition deaths are around 10,000... who to believe? I mean, we all know the US Military has lied several times in this war)

Quote :
"When a US patrol was struck by an IED in Khaldiya in January, '04, the military reported a far lower number of casulties than several witnesses, including an Iraqi Policeman. This is a common occurance in occupied Iraq."

Radioactive village near looted Al-Tuwetha

Quote :
"Al-Tuwetha Nuclear Facility was allowed to be looted by US forces during the invasion. Now the nearby village suffers from cancer, and Adel, a beekeeper, states that even his bees are dying...as he has cancer himself."

Petrol shortages plague Iraq (Gas shortages... in Iraq???)

Quote :
"Gasoline shortages are a constant under the US occupation. Gas lines of up to 10 km are not uncommon, and people have to wait upwards of 8 hours to fill their autos. Thus, a flourishing black market for selling petrol has appeared."

Forgive me if I don't trust some of your, "independent sources".

Quote :
"The ultimate purpose for the films and photographs was to make money in the multi-billion dollar pornography industry in the USA and other western countries. There are powerful people in the US government and wealthy individuals at high levels of US society that pay large sums of money for these decadent sexual materials. Some of these individuals are members of the Satanic Skull and Bones/CIA organization. These materials that also include "snuff movies" of Central American children are being distributed by Jewish pornographers."

^ some views have issues, but by far, my intention is to let people know what has happened, while the rest of the world knows and we are sleeping here watching cnn for example, thinking that our government is 'all good' and liberating the iraqi people, what a deception.

truth still stand out by far. what has happened has happened. and people know now.

I don't believe our country is, "all good". However, the sources you cite have a definite political agenda which causes me to greatly doubt the accuracy of the stories.

I don't even pay attention to the news any more. The American media hasn't done any serious war reporting since Vietnam, and if you believe they're ever giving you an accurate picture (pro or con), you're delusional. On the other hand, I don't trust other sources (like the one linked) to be amazing unbiased sources either.

The only stories I listen to are the ones from my brother and my friends who are actually there.

Bad things happen. Good things happen. It's a horrible place to be, Americans don't always do the right thing, but they're not evil either.

How many troops have you actually talked to?

I know my brother's unit takes its peacekeeping job very seriously. They understand that you can't have peace if the people don't trust you, and they're working to earn it.

Are all of our soldiers well-educated, thoughtful people who understand why they're being shot at? Of course not. Not everyone understands that you can reduce the violence by dealing with the root of the causes instead of just reacting to it.

But there are definitely soldiers there that are trying to make the best of a bad situation.

This is true DaveOT.
I commend a soldier for taking such a dangerous route to peace in such a chaotic environment.
However, it is escalating over there. We see this even from what little our media shows us. It is also true to say that when you are being shot at continously and see you comrades fall the normal human mind cant help but feel resentment. Abu Gharib is in no way the last example of torture and inhumanity that will take place in this war. We have grunts who have been on the field for long periods of time and are simply fed up. I believe it is necessary for us civilians to realize the soldier is not meant for nation building. The soldier is meant to kill period.
