1 - You didn't define "affordable". For Puff Daddy, a Maybach is "affordable".

2 - Go to http://www.edmunds.com, and select the price bracket you want and the car style you want.

3 - End thread.

I wouldn't define a mustang or honda as a sports car.

I would stick with something that is RWD if you are looking for something fun.

miatas are cheap.

I'm defining affordable as about $5000

Mazda Miata, Porsche 944, any bmw 325is (e30 or e36)

none are that fast, but all have great handling and are reasonably durable for high-milage use

Those suggestions are decent.

What is your price range anyways?

If you can spend $20k, go for something like an S2000, E36 M3, C5 vette, SRT-4, 2006 civic SI, RSX-S, WRX, etc.

944 is fun, but the required maintenance is terrible... and it's not a sports car anyways.

Every 951 I've been in has been pretty damn sporty. I've never been in an NA, but it's probably similarly sporty just with less power.

It's sporty, but it's not a sports car. Look up "sports car" in the dictionary if you disagree.

Do you want this car for a daily driver? In that price range you're going to find most of the cars old, modded, and requiring some wrenching on a regular basis. With that said, I know a guy who's selling a pretty fast '88 Rx-7 turbo (ran a 13.1@105 , dynoed 250rwhp/280rwtq) for like $4000. It could use a repaint though.

Well, I can see a little bit of a reason why somebody would say a 944 or 944 turbo is not a "sports" car. Yes, it's obviously not true but both the cars are meant for high speeds, and do not seem "agile". Besides they (much like most other Porsches) really do require quite a bit of skill to extract anything near the full potential of them. They also like to bite back without too much warning to the inexperienced driver. They're momentum cars, especially the NA.

hah the nice term for slow cars is now "momentum" cars, brilliant ahmet.

out of the list, get the 325is. you can actually FIND a great e30 for 5k, not a 944 turbo.

they are fun to drive

tough as nails

and have classic styling.

and just because i have one doesnt mean im bias, damnit.

and if (should be when) ahmet disagrees, with any point (which he will) just take into accout that the moment hes off TWW, hes licking my balls. KEKEKKEKEKEKEKEKEKKEEKKEKE

Well, 944s ARE momentum cars. It's not my term, it's the term that's used to refer to cars that lap at a descent pace but have to be driven well to do so, as they don't have power to mask driver error. Prepped e30s are considered momentum cars also. I won't disagree with how cool they are, you know I like them. I will say this though, I remember dynoing the slowest 944 turbo I've owned so far, there was a nice 325i there, with a chip, intake exhaust and a couple of other things (don't remember if it had a cam at the time). I put down more than 2x the torque of that car at the wheels. I'm rebuilding the engine in another track 944 turbo right now. I am bitter though, as it's red...

insurance company says mustang is a family car and i agree that pretty much all of them are...if you get into some of the cobra's and saleen's then maybe you can argue otherwise, but the 'normal' ones are family cars that have the reputation of being fast

i cant believe you just said a mustang is a family car

a mustang is a pony car, not a sports car, not a sedan, etc

and definitely not a family car.
