battles already over. FF is the #2 browser in the world and gaining. Opera is 5th.

i downloaded Opera yesterday after it "went free", and was reminded why it is 5th.

oh ok, cause some of the people on the forums on slickdeals are saying its "faster" and "better"

i thought speed was based on what internet provider you had

plus firefox is better

I like Opera better, but probably only because I started using it before Firefox.

opera ftw
It is faster, speed is also dependent on rendering engine

^^ i guess it depends who you ask, but by most counts I've seen Nescape and Safari are above Opera. Now you know you're in trouble when a Mac only browser is above yours.....

Safari PWNS

I use it for most of my daily browsing - I am posting on it right now.

Earlier versions had their problems but it has matured a lot and it is very rare that I find a page that it does not work with.

It is fast as hell on the dual G5 at work, and even fast on an old 400 MHz G3 iMac.

Certain UI mechanisms that I have grown accustom to are not in (or just not the same in) Opera and it makes it hard to even use as a trial.

Also it wasn't working with either a Yahoo Maps or Mapquest interface yesterday.

only problem i have with opera: hate hate HATE not being able to just grab the right side of the screen to use the scrollbar. it's nice to not have to look to the side any time i want to use it. i'm surprised nobody in the world seems to have the same problem with the scrollbar.

i'm quite surprised you can't tell a difference. here's what i'm talking about:

in FF, throw your mouse all the way to the right of the screen so that its in the vertical 'zone' of the scrollbar. drag up and down. it works.

now do the same test in Opera. it won't work, because there is an invisible spacer or border between the very right side of the screen and the scrollbar.

i'm very lazy with my scrollbars, but that's just what i'm used to doing. it saves me the time of looking to make sure my mouse pointer is actually on the scrollbar.

divide that number by the number of updates they've had and you MIGHT get an accurate number of possible users.

Even for updates 90 million is no small number.

If Opera had a good way of blocking ads then I'd use it cause i finally customized it to look good. But Opera has no comparable product to Adblock in FF. They are all subpar. Till then I'll be a devoted FF user.

And a properly configured firefox runs just as fast as Opera. They both render just as fast on my computer. FF 1.06 vs. Opera 8.02

Ahh, I get ya now. It has to be maximized. Yeah, I don't browse maximized/fullscreen. Plus, I'm a mousewheel user.

I liked older versions of Opera -- haven't used the latest one.

Firefox, on the other hand, makes me want to put my head through a wall.

do some research jimbo, there are extensions like "All-In-One Gestures", which can configure middle-button scrolling. I never have to touch the scroll bar because I either (a) use the mouse wheel like a normal human or (b) click the middle button/wheel ANYWHERE and it will drag the page up or down like I was on the scroll bar.

Jimmy, I feel ya. I have a browse full-screen too and even have a wheel-mouse. Call it lazy at most or at least wanting a good user-interface experience, but that's a must for most applications to me.

Internet Explorer doesn't even have that convenience.

I use Opera now.

Used firefox until it got all trendy and therefore, got a ton of new security flaws.

being trendy doesn't create security flaws, no browser is gonna be 100% secure
