Besides the Law schools and Medical school , their isn't a big difference between UNC chapel hill's academic curriculum and NCSU curriculum . Why does everybody keep on ranting about UNC being considered a public IVY? IT is soooo overrated.NCSU physics program offers exactly the same courses under it's physics courses that UNC offers. Same goes for the Philosophy programs at both schools. Though I think NCSU state needs more public policy courses .

Ummm, Id say theres a BIG difference between our Engineering and theirs.
9/17/2005 6:56:29 PM
They don't even have an engineering program.
9/17/2005 6:58:40 PM
I was talking about physics. physics isn't engineering
9/17/2005 6:59:19 PM
Well actually it is. but part. anyway. I don't think the people at unc are any smarter than the people at state. A GPA doesn't mean anything . It is like a deck of cards. Once you finish playing with the deck, you will not remember the last hand you played.
9/17/2005 7:01:51 PM
the b-schools are very different
9/17/2005 7:19:14 PM
what is NCSU state?
9/17/2005 7:21:20 PM
what the heck is a b schools
9/17/2005 7:23:14 PM
Having the same courses doesn't, in any way, mean the schools are of the same quality. It depends on a lot of things.
9/17/2005 7:23:30 PM
b-school = business schoolquite common terminology
9/17/2005 7:30:52 PM
Nor does having a high ranking mean it is that I am guranteed a good job out of college . It also depends on how you define quality. I agree with you that having in the sense that a bunch of courses makes it a good program. I do not agree that their is a big difference in teaching quality between NCSU and UNC. I also believe that the student body as a whole isn't less or more intelligent than when comparing NCSU or UNC. In fact to put the icing on the cake , I totally am against AP courses and vocational courses in high school . I thinking we are failing to provide a substantial education for the other group of students taking vocational courses. The school should not cater to a certain group of students. Vocational and shop class kids have the potential to learn calculus ,metaphysics and Shakespeare just like the students who are in college prep.
9/17/2005 7:32:47 PM
State doesnt have the money UNC has
9/17/2005 7:40:30 PM

Actually, I was discouraged from taking AP classes at my high school. When they are supposed to direct to two options they only direct a certain number of students to one way and a certain number of students to only one direction. So instead of being cater the consequences of taking AP classes and the many doors it can open up , I had to encourage myself to take AP classes.[Edited on September 17, 2005 at 9:01 PM. They have their own classics library in the building where they teach classics, with columns outside, and Greek god statues inside. We have a guy who gets assigned a different building each semester who admits to liking his drinks, and is outpaced by his students who read the book.In their classics room they have a desk where they can press buttons to activate 2 different slide projects, a drop down screen, a camera on the desk to show papers, lower and raise the shades, the lights, hard wood floors, nice desks that aren't written all over.We have a crowded room in harrelson where the same stuff is taught my history teachers who checks out books from our library only to be given so much trouble by the library that he complains about it almost every class period. He holds up an old book with tears in it and shows the pictures to one side of the class and then the other like my kindergarten teacher used to do, where half the people couldn't see. They have Philosophy PhDs, we after alot of work and complaining by our professors have a graduate level minor in biological or environmental ethics.Granted I haven't had many classes at UNC, and they have been in the areas I'm interested in - classics & philosophy. With inter-institutional classes you are only allowed to take them at other schools if our school doesn't offer it, but they let me take classes there simply because their program was so much better that it didn't compare.I had to go by the offices in harris hall for a few hours each day for a week and was given all kinds of crap because the women working their didn't like college students. My UNC professor went out of his way to contact me and make sure I got everything settled okay with them, and signed everything I needed before I had asked, and sent me to their registration and records which had so many helpful employees that there was 0 wait time and everything was approved in 5 minutes instead of over a week with a few hours each day.NCSU is better if you want an engineering or vet job, UNC is better for everything else.I think NCSU isn't inherently worse, but I think with the number of students we have the bureaucracy has reached an amazing height.

comp science is often not considered an engineering discipline.See? I can make claims and not prove anything too!
9/19/2005 9:14:23 AM
As if where you go for an undergraduate degree actually matters.Given the same degree,an employer is not going to give a fuck where you went for said degree, as long as it's an accredited institution.
9/19/2005 9:38:00 AM
Lavim, it wasn't even in our engineering school until a few years back. many schools still do not list it as an engineering discipline. so to say that carolina having a CS program doesnt mean much about their engineering program, is quite true. secondly im responding to NerdChick and others who are comparing programs, while you are just being a dumbass.

The only people who really think that UNC sucks or that State sucks are the ones who grew up here in NC and play into the whole ACC rivalry thing. They're both good schools, and each one can claim to have something better than the other. State gets treated like the redheaded stepchild when compared to UNC or Duke, because UNC and Duke are consistently ranked in the top 30 overall each year (with Wake Forest quietly tying with UNC this year), even though people seem to overlook the fact that many of State's individual programs are ranked high as well, and State ranks #78 overall, which is not an unimpressive feat. As an alum of both State and UNC, I can't really say that the students from one school are any smarter than the other; they just have different ways of expressing it.

I mentioned computer science because here at State it is part of the College of Engineering. http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/ (although I didn't know it was only included recently) ]

everyone here is biased since they go to NC STATE. regardless of what anyone says unless you are a engineering student, textile, traditionally or AGR students; UNC is a better school both academically, socially, and on paper when looking for a job[Edited on September 19, 2005 at 4:26 PM. NCSU's English dept has more highly accredited (wrong term, but fits) professors than Carolina's.Carolina just has a kickass journalism school.
