so i have a 12x dvd burner and a 4x dvd burner. they are on the SAME ide chain. i only have 1 ide chain on my motherboard.

when burning both at once (data from separate hard drives on separate sata and/or ide channels) they become very sluggish and both only burn ~3-4x total.

i installed 3 different promise ata100, ata133, sata150 (has 1 ide 2 sata) pci cards and tried to put a dvd writer on them and they all either caused a hang up in windows or crashes or unrecognizable dvd writers in windows.

what is my solution? i don't mind dropping $10-20 on an ide card that will WORK with a dvd drive.


*i know i have to get the 2 drives off the same ide chain, just hope there's a card out there taht will work or some other solution that will enable me to stay on the same chain.

lol, I wouldn't dare try to burn two DVDs at once

I don't even know if there's a solution to that man, I tried it once and it killed my system.

dude...that makes no sense

one dvd burner probably uses the entire cables bandwidth...you are not gonna get a performance boost by running them both at the same time.

while writting at 16x on one of my dvd drives i cant read dvds in the other at any kind of pace, let alone write.

yeah that makes no sense u have 1 that burns at 16x and 1 that burns at 4x. burning the dvds 1 at a time at 16x will be faster than burning 1 at 16x and 1 at 4x.

i have a high-end system, 3.0ghz 1gb ram, blah blah, shouldn't be a problem if i can get them on separate channels.

whoops my bad u have a 12x, but still 12x = 3 times faster than 4x meaning u can burn 3 dvds in the 12x b4 the 4x finishes 1 dvd so just use that 1.

I can't even burn a DVD and watch a DVD on my other drive w/o screwing stuff up

get an external usb2.0 enclosure, i have an NEC DVD burner in one and it will do 8x no problem, then that will let you use only the one drive on your IDE. They also have little USB to IDE adapter cable that you could use to leave the drive in your PC case and hook into the USB pins on the mobo or thread the USB cable out the back of the case and into an available USB port. Looks something like this:

I need to get a computer just like this. how much would something like that cost me nowadays? i have the HD storage, LCDs, and DVD burners already...
