it begs the question:why?
9/14/2005 3:41:20 PM
Because he could.
9/14/2005 3:43:14 PM
That seems like too much trouble.
9/14/2005 3:44:59 PM
there was a super and turbo charged civic at an autox a few months ago. he got all pissy on the forums cuz he sucked at autox in his 400whp civic. hah. it was a pretty sweet design job. the FI was totally mechanically controlled, no computer, etc
9/14/2005 3:53:02 PM
seems like the most inefficient shit eva

Going for the award for "most instances of forced induction on one engine". Bonus points for two different types, but still loses the overall to the quad-turbo '57 chevy someone built a while back.
9/14/2005 5:12:39 PM
Sweet, i need to hook that up in my scoobie!

^^ Wasn't there a quad turbo vette a while back as well?
9/14/2005 8:16:28 PM
There was an eight turboed v8 convertable.

9/14/2005 9:25:15 PM
yeah it does work but its a shit-ton of weight and honestly who races below 3000 rpm anyway?
9/14/2005 9:40:11 PM
9/14/2005 9:42:24 PM
ok tell me how 2 turbos and a supercharger are going to be lighter than some other combination of (less) power adders to give you that hp level
9/14/2005 9:46:44 PM
yeah the weight would be more than made up for when the twin charged car is getting it and the turbo car is still spooling up
9/14/2005 9:47:47 PM

or you could just use big turbo and some nitrous.
9/15/2005 1:59:53 AM
^^ 4 turbos is different... that could be for quicker spool or packaging or trying to keep the turbine as close to the engine as possible and thus minimize energy lossbut 2 turbos and 1 super charger is just dumb.
9/15/2005 2:22:34 AM
^new golf GT has a turbo and a SC. if it is engineered well, it is far from stupid.
9/15/2005 2:38:13 AM
1 and 1 i think is fine... but 2 turbos are heavy and lose alot of efficiency but... they improve spool time ... having 2 turbos AND a supercharger is a waste of space i think...btw...detriot diesel has been doing the supercharger/ turbo thing since before i was born its not new @ all
9/15/2005 2:50:19 AM
9/15/2005 8:15:15 AM
Having the supercharger on the side like that seems like it would throw the engine off balance.
9/15/2005 8:50:43 AM
wtf is he going to do? pull a boat for all intensive speer puposes what happens below 3000 rpm doesn't really matter especially in an allwheel drive car
9/15/2005 9:28:17 AM
9/15/2005 10:06:32 AM
nothing new, but you dont seem much of this setup in a wrx
9/15/2005 10:54:24 AM
speed* it was late give me a break but honestly in a car that has 4.XX gearing and all wheel drive you don't even launch below 3000 rpm and when you shift unless you are a dip-shit you won't fall out of boost.
9/15/2005 2:46:43 PM
Do you think a car built with such a focus on wide torque band (and remember we are ignoring the "form" funciton of this project as it is) might be interested in torque below 3000?
9/15/2005 2:56:41 PM
i'd be really interested to see exactly how much weight this whole setup is... probably makes the car even more nose heavy
9/15/2005 3:40:31 PM
I'd really be intrested in tapping that ass raymond.
