Which one is better?I know iPod has the cool navigation interface, but Creative Zen has 40 Gig at a price $50 less than the iPod and has a new improved navigation interface. The sound quality of the creative zen is really good too, although I dont know if its better than iPod.
9/13/2005 10:05:45 PM
If you dont care about style, get the zen
9/13/2005 10:26:17 PM
i would get the ipod, the easy navigation is worth it. I have an iriver and am switching to the ipod b/c i am tired of the iriver's controls. I looked at the touch and it seems to be better than the iriver but i don't know if you can beat the ipod's wheel.
9/13/2005 10:45:35 PM
go with what your genes tell you to do
9/13/2005 10:52:12 PM
meh, unless you get a really good deal on the zen, the ipods controls are really nice, and the nano is retardedly durable. iriver and zen both have many more features for the price, but if you don't care about voice recording, fm radio, etc... then get an ipod.
9/13/2005 11:21:14 PM
worst interface ever.
9/13/2005 11:44:45 PM
just get an ipod, no one will make fun of you
9/13/2005 11:47:26 PM
A dell DJ is better than bothbut noyou would go fuck it up anf get a Zen.Jesus Dudejust plain Jesus
9/13/2005 11:47:59 PM
that dell thing is hideous
9/13/2005 11:49:42 PM
whateverit ain't as hideos as that overpriced incompatible iPod.Hey can I drag and drop my music without fucking iTunes?I GUESS THE ANSWER IS YES
9/13/2005 11:51:57 PM
haha
9/13/2005 11:54:07 PM
^^ do you ever take Michael Dell's dick out of your mouth?
9/14/2005 7:16:18 PM
nope
9/14/2005 7:17:11 PM
Wow, I've never seen a Dell DJ before. I guess theres a reason for that, it is ugly.
9/14/2005 8:55:30 PM
Dude, the Zen has a 40 gig drive and comes for only $20 more than the dell dj. It definitely is worth getting.
9/14/2005 10:23:38 PM
you got it for $250?
9/14/2005 10:25:11 PM
YEAH ! AINT THAT AWESOME
9/14/2005 10:36:17 PM
^ Do the above price differences assume you're getting the ipod edu discount or neh?
9/15/2005 5:57:35 AM
ZEN>iRiver>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Dell DJ
9/15/2005 12:15:28 PM
WTF are you morons talking about? The DJ looks just like a damn ipod, except without the wheel.
9/15/2005 12:29:53 PM
the newer generation DJs don't have the mini USB slot like that...it's something proprietary to hook up other devices...also there's a lock at the top now so that you don't press buttons while it's in your pocket. And to be frank, after buying a lot of stuff from Dell, I think they are the only company I trust for product quality and after-sales support.
9/15/2005 12:32:30 PM
only because you can speak to the support people in a language that they can understand
9/15/2005 12:56:06 PM
I just do the online support thingEmail/chat

9/15/2005 1:49:34 PM
WhatAmericans don't speak English?NVM, English is an "English" language
9/15/2005 1:50:58 PM
if you want to be a sheep, get an ipod...after all, a pretty color and scroll wheel is definitely worth the money when you consider it's a total pieceif you want people to realize you can think for yourself, get anything but an ipod
9/15/2005 1:55:43 PM
Question... Why don't the competition just rip off the iPod's wheel and slap it on their players. So far to me it seems like they don't want to go that route for the purposes of a product differentiation. But in the case with Dell, they could just make a clone and sell it at a price advantage. Are there any copyright implication for manufacturers if they do that?
9/15/2005 2:05:23 PM
Microsoft has the patent to the iPod wheel I think.

Never buy creative.A company that ships MP3 players with viruses and has their top-of-the-line sound cards' eprom wiped when another pci card is inserted needs to go bankrupt.
9/15/2005 3:46:03 PM
Creative has the patents to the ipod UI, microsoft has a couple of pending patents to the wheel tech, but really the wheel concept itself is freely usable.Problem is how to make a wheel that doesn't LOOK like Apple's, but still functions as well. The Dell DJ is fucking hideous looking.
9/15/2005 3:55:03 PM
*sigh* I just wish the iriver had better controls. I love the thing so much more than my ipod, but damn the thing can be awkward sometimes.anyone try one of the "rio carbon pearl" mp3 players? http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=pricegrabber.com&id=1003931they've received as good reviews as the zen micro and ipods, but I've never actually heard of anyone using them. isn't rio going out of buisness?[Edited on September 15, 2005 at 5:01 PM. Reason : ah, they're "exiting the buisness". shame, it looks like a good player.]

Rio is exiting the MP3 player market are they not?P.S. a friend at work just got an ipod nano. very nice.[Edited on September 15, 2005 at 9:05 PM. Reason : -]

Everytime someone exclaims or is amazed by their iPod, I just giggle like a girl. It's just like the 80s when buying a Walkman was cooler than buying a Panasonic of the same size but more features.
9/15/2005 9:07:31 PM
More features != better PORTABLE MUSIC DEVICE.In the same way they tried tacking on everything humanly possible to car's in the 80's luxury market and that shit backfired too.The reason all the competitors have to come out with whizbang feature packs, is because they can't compete with the iPod's one important feature: Playing the music easily. Also, the iPod is still the defacto design standard for mid-market electronic devices.
9/15/2005 9:11:34 PM
9/15/2005 9:30:29 PM
^^ easily?I beg to differAnd pleaseThe walkmen were anything but "easier" to operate.
9/15/2005 9:40:18 PM
The nano is very sexy .Very Sexy.I would have to say though, that I like Sony's designs more. I just hate the fact that they only work with proprietery Sony software and that alone will make me never buy a sony player.
9/15/2005 9:51:10 PM
it's just the coolness factor.
9/15/2005 9:52:14 PM
you are such a tool.
9/15/2005 9:53:37 PM
^^ I am thinking about a Nano because of the abuse they can take in addition to the sexiness.[Edited on September 15, 2005 at 9:56 PM. Reason : flash mem]
9/15/2005 9:56:28 PM
Feature wise you're getting a massive shaft.IRiver players support nearly every format under the sun AND Napster2Go, which works better for me because I get bored of music really quickly.
9/16/2005 12:49:07 AM
^ I like them because I listen to the radio/news alot and podcasts just don't cut it, but I still use my ipod for studying because I like the controls better and don't care about the radio/voice recording when I'm not out and shit.
9/16/2005 12:54:33 AM
Does iRiver support mp4/AAC (with VBR?)? I really don't know... just asking.
9/16/2005 1:08:15 AM
^ As far as I know, iPods are the only devices that'll ever accept AAC format, and iPods will not play WMA files.
9/16/2005 1:24:00 AM
^ There are other devices that play AAC (AAC and MP4 are the same format). The iTMS just happens to use AAC files that are encrypted to only play on the iPod and iTunes. However, there are programs out there to strip the encryption, leaving plain, old MP4 files that are the same quality as the original download (since the encryption was merely stripped) and CAN play on SOME other players. I was just asking of iRiver was one of those players.
