for some reason after i setup RAID in bios and what not. and i come to install windows. I press F6 a bunch of times and it still doesn't ask for my 3rd party RAID drivers. WTF? I am using Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 discs (and yes they are legit)

i guess the problem is when i get to the "select hdd to install windows on" part in the setup it still shows both drives. but both have all 0's across the board for ID etc...

You can always make a custom Windows CD with your RAID drivers included. Since you have the drivers already and know exactly which card it is then it should only take about 2 hours to do that and you will have a CD for later.

So, did you get to load the drivers, and still see both hard drives? Did you try to delete both partitions then create a new partition?

ok i got it working. The whole problem was using a freakin USB keyboard. I went to my parents house and picked up an old PS2 keyboard and everything worked just fine. For some reason with the USB keyboard the delay was so long that when i saw the F6 prompt and hit it right away...aparently windows doesn't recognize it. Everything works fine now.

Just remember to keep good backups.

Running RAID 0 doubles your chance of data loss. If one hard disk fails and you have no backup you are incredibly screwed.

Got it covered, dedicated data drive

and an extra fan in the case that is keeping all the HDs temps at 37C during gaming and idle.

its just a gaming machine. I have two 300gb external SEAGATES that all my data is stored on. so if one dies i'll just be pissed about having to buy another

do you know of any reviews of performance / throughput tests of various raid combinations? Sata and SCSI?

I've got a setup at work where I can install windows on four 7200RPM SATA drives, with a PCI-X SATA raid card, I wonder which setup would be faster?
