good morning boys, i've gotta question about my car... i've got a 93 thunderbird lx, v6, 4.6L engine... around spring break last year, my head gaskets blew so i got that worked on... the ac worked fine for about a month after i got the car fixed, then the car overheated bad every time i tried to us the ac... i've checked some things ruled out some possibilities...coolant isn't leaking and there is plenty in the carradiator cap is holding pressurehead gaskets are def ok, brand newi think it could possibly be a bad clutch fan... do you guys have any other ideas of what it might be?[Edited on September 5, 2005 at 9:23 AM. is it correct that your car overheats w/ the a/c on while idling but the temp stays fine while driving down the road at 45mph?

I had a TransAm (w/o AC) with overheading problems just at idle, we replaced the fan clutch and that fixed the problem

nope same girl, not a guy .... if i had money to buy a new car, i obviously would... actually after fixing the gaskets, the car has run perfectly except for the ac, so im pretty happy w/ ityes the fans are coming onwhat happens is that the a/c works, cools the car down inside, but after maybe 20 minutes, the engine temp gauge says the engine is really hot... as soon as i turn the ac off, the needle on the gauge goes back to normal.. that all happens while im driving

you STILL dont understand what we are talking about69 and I were referring to a thread BY ANOTHER USER where we reccomended not to mess with a head job on a v6 tbird that was for sale on craigslistbut since you are such an expert, I wouldnt mind seeing your

Bet money that radiator is crammed full of scale. AC just pushes it over the edge.

ok ok ok im obviously not having a good day and can't think straight. its a 3.8L not a 4.6.... this is what i get for not sleeping

either poor circulation or poor cooling, check for a bunch of crap piled up between the condenser and radiator, then try some radiator flush
9/5/2005 10:56:15 PM
if the cooling fans and/or fan clutch isnt working properly then the heat produced by the condenser could be pushing the radiator temp upalways check you fans first
