http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/rometotalwarexpansion/index.htmlDemo is already out and the release date is Sept 27th. I was wandering where they were going with the series after Rome. Even though this is just an expansion, any new game in the series would pale in comparision if you left the Roman time frame. One of the HUGEST differences that I can make out is the fact that if you are a barbarian race you can uproot your ENTIRE people and move like a rampaging whirlwind. Not just army, but move the entire civilization around on the map. Very interesting dynamic.I beleive this picture might be of a uprooted civilization, or just a shitton of armies close to each other. There are also night battles being introduced. This image is of one of the demo battles I think. You are the brittons across the river with the onagers. Supposedly relating to Aurthor verses the Saxons.

I got the demo. That one night battle messes up my computer. I just dont have enough power to run that bitch. Everytime I kill the first general my computer just freezes. Excellent effects though.

I havent been able to play the demo yet, but is that screen shot of the city^^ the battlemap of someone trying to seige the city? If so they have widened the range you can be outside the city walls me thinks.[Edited on September 3, 2005 at 3:10 PM. Reason : yuk]

why does everyone love rome: total war?

^ Maybe because its a good game?

i've got medieval:total war. it was like 10 bucks at walmart, and its very similar to rome. its fun, but the multiplayer, all you can do is the battles. you cant do the turn based play. is this different in rome?

so if i have never played a strategic battle game like this before and i am looking to start would Rome be a good one to get. As far as strategic battle games are concerned the only example i have of one i have seen people play is Warcraft.

No, if your not familiar with the rts genre than you shouldn't play this game. I found the controls a little bit confusing. You should try Age of Empires II first. Thats a great game to learn the ropes.

im very familiar with RTS. i love startcrafts and warcrafts.but i just never quite understood this shit. i didnt like rome: total war.

IMHO there are people that like warcraft RTS's because they are all similar and they have a set way of doing things. I like RTS's in general just on the basis of strategy in and of itself.I would like to think there are people like me and then there are the people that stick to warcraft clones. starcraft AOE2, command and conquer. There all the same.On a side note, I absolutlty love the conquer the world part. The battles are just a bonus.Anyhoo, so in playing RTW I never actually got seiged. I mean I never had anyone seiging me long enough to where they actually attacked. I either was advancing to fast to where they never had armies to throw at me, or I met those armies in the open field. I honestly dont see the point of letting them seige you unless you are seriously outnumbered. And letting yourself be put in that position is just ludacris and a waste of resources.

^^ I would let my enemies siege me all the time. I was usually waging war on about 5 fronts and I would try to focus most of my resources in about 2 areas. So if someone was sieging me i would just let them and focus on other areas. Then when they finally attacked i could slaughter them easily. All you need is 3 groups of archers and some infantry to pretty much wipe out any assault. If you have 5 groups of archers you can kill most of the units before they even reach the walls. Then just use your calvary to wipe them out as they run away. Letting them siege you is a good and easy way to take out a superior or large army with out losing almost any troops.

i haven't played the demo, but i can't stop playing RTW since the day it was released. Sometimes i'll eave that shit running in the background for weeks and i'd play right after work or in between homeworkd haha.I saw Barbarian Invasion at target the other day and almost picked it up but not sure if it really adds that much more.

You should try this out if you haven't already. Its historically acurate for the most part and it lets you play as 17 different civs. Also they made it so that you can't rout units as easily anymore. So you want be able to just rout a whole army with a few calvalry charges, the enemy will actually stay and fight.http://www.rometotalrealism.org/
