all it has to do is drive

all you have to do is search
9/3/2005 12:26:34 PM
yeah get the 4runner my dad has had 5 lc's in his life. nice vehicles worst gas mileage on earth.
9/3/2005 1:34:20 PM
I know where a 1993 is w/ 179k miles. She wants $2,200 or so if she still has it. It's in ok shape phisically but the motor is fine.
9/3/2005 6:00:13 PM
what years do you consider old? 2000? 1995?
9/3/2005 6:45:24 PM
at least mentioning a year and price range would help things a lot
9/3/2005 6:47:48 PM
Fair enoughI'd like pre-90Price range depends on what it is. Say you've got an 87 4runner 4 cylinder with 100K on it. I'd pay 5 grand.
9/3/2005 8:39:01 PM
shit 5gsi know where a 87 or 88 yota 4wd ext cab pickup is with auto for $1500and when i came through downtown wake forest today, I saw a late 80s 4runner with the top off parked for sale, I can give you directions to get where it was sitting if you want
9/3/2005 10:19:01 PM
How's the body look on the p'up?and I'll take directions to the 4runner for sure.and reason for the $5 Gs is if it's in great shape, it'll run forever. I've always been a Ford man, but damn if I haven't owned 5 of em since I was 16 cause they just don't last long enough for me. bought a ranger with 54K on it 3 years ago, now it's @ 150K and it's dying. not to mention the entire emissions system has been replaced over those 3 years...and the oil pan gasket...and the rear main THREE times.[Edited on September 3, 2005 at 10:25 PM. Reason : .]
9/3/2005 10:21:59 PM
the pickup is a hunting truck now basically. he told me theres some rust on the body, but I havent seen it. if it gives you any idea, he dosent wash it anymore, he just has it sprayed primer black.i guess ill put the directions out here for everyone. from campus, find your way to capital blvd/US1 North (via wade ave is the easiest i guess) and head, well, northcontinue on US 1 for several miles, past even 540 and triangle town center and all that shittake the exit for highway 98 and turn right. theres a mc donalds there. go past the seminary and you will come to a stoplight/T-intersection (not a Y one) after a sharp left hand turn (look for the railroad trestle on the right)turn right at the light, go under the tracks and the 4runner should be parked on the left just through the stoplight there. in the parking lot of the empty building there.

Know if its solid axle? [Edited on September 3, 2005 at 11:08 PM. Reason : eh, I'll just go check it out]
9/3/2005 11:08:19 PM
the pickup isnt modified in any way that i know of, and the 4runner looked stock
9/3/2005 11:09:29 PM
thanks

9/4/2005 6:18:50 AM
wow what?
9/4/2005 11:13:50 AM
He's saying thats alot to pay for one. You should get a decent one for around $2000, But will be hard pressed to find one with low miles like that. I paid 2 for my 89 P/U with 190K on it, and it runs fine.
9/4/2005 11:18:10 AM
9/4/2005 12:16:24 PM
^^ that's why if I could find one with low miles I'd pay more for itI found one a year ago with 62K original miles on it in immaculate shape, but of course, didn't have $4200 to buy it from the guy^ early 86s were last solid axle, but I have read that you can swap a solid into any of them up to the tacomas (95.5) without having to invest too much
9/4/2005 5:13:39 PM
Last solid axle year was 85, and the first year with the FI 22re, so its the most desirable. I didn't know what year these were, thats why I asked. Also SAS's have been done on taco's. I have a friend with a 99 SAS. But he's got about 8 in his swap. (coilovers/ 4-link, etc.)I have a 83 P/u for sale I'd take $1200 for If you're interested in that, and I'll keep my eye out. Skip the IFS. It blows[Edited on September 4, 2005 at 7:37 PM. Reason : /.][Edited on September 4, 2005 at 7:39 PM. Reason : /]
9/4/2005 7:36:16 PM
^ tacos? I know I'm not the most knowledgeable, but I assume you're talking about IFS right?and I'm interested in looking at the 83, 4x4? and is it the 22r? or the earlier engine (20r I think?)and i wanna know who's got that huge green toy that you can see off of avent ferry. looks like it's lifted 10 inches or so with 35s or 38s
9/4/2005 11:07:54 PM
taco is short for tacoma. The 83 is a 22r, runs pretty good, has a flatbed. My buddy drives a olive drab 83 on 35" sx's, but he works off method rd. not sure if its the same one or not.
9/4/2005 11:58:10 PM
the 85 pickups also had the extended truss all the way along the axle, just thought i'd throw that in there, to add to the desirableness of them. i kinda wanna buy a toy just bc they'll run forever oh and 5 grand is too much man. unless it has way lowwww miles. good luck though
9/6/2005 12:20:45 AM
saw a good looking cruiser for sale in garner today, at that rv place..can't remember the name. it was this style but green and white
9/6/2005 4:50:08 AM
yeah i see that one all the time at that place on 401. I don't know much about them other than that they are spring under axle, and I don't think they have the same axles as the minitrucks (could be wrong)
9/6/2005 8:19:00 AM
9/6/2005 11:42:49 AM
that cruiser in the pict is an fj55. some say the ugliest of all cruisers.buy my dad's 95 land cruiser sitting on i think 34's with a 4 inch lift or so. great truck, dual airbags and the most modern engine of the bunch. the rest were gutless, not saying this one is a drag queen just the most modern "f" engine, if u can call it that.
9/6/2005 12:04:41 PM
i like it
9/6/2005 3:01:59 PM
how much? e-lockers? still the I6?
9/6/2005 3:05:35 PM
yeah, 95's were still i6.
9/6/2005 3:27:04 PM
it has front and rear diffs. he's never taken it off road, except the occasional hill or something of the sort. im not sure about price ill ask him tonight.
9/6/2005 3:52:37 PM
yeah, they all have front and rear diffs but does it have f/r electric lockers (rare option, very desireable to off road enthusiasts).
9/6/2005 3:57:57 PM
Well I'd like to thank BigBlueRam for clearing shit up. I love the toys, though I've never been fortunate enough to own one. you seem to know your shit, if you ever go wheelin and you don't mind me taggin along askin a milloin questions, I'm down to go. chip in for gas tooand the $5K for the toy, that's how much I'd pay, ridiculous or not. Wanted one since I was 16, never wound up with one. I can get the loan and if one comes along w/ low miles and good shape, I'm signing paperwork. The Toy sittin on Avent Ferry I was talking about is a olive 4Runner.
9/6/2005 8:59:40 PM
i talked to my co-worker today, he said that yes $1500 would take his truck.
9/6/2005 9:18:14 PM
^^sure, no problem. i'll let you know the next time we go somewhere. i've had 2 toyotas, the most recent of which an 84 4 runner and i've spent countless hours working on/modifying others. if you're open to spending 5k on one, definitely get something early 90's or newer if it's stock. you should be able to get a pre 90 truck/runner in excellent shape for no more than 3-4. a nicely modified one should be around 5k. it's your money, but that's just my take on the values. anything 85-88 make sure it's got the 22re or 22ret if you plan on 4 wheeling at all with it.
9/6/2005 9:42:32 PM
oh, and beware of body rust and frame rot. the older ones don't hold up to the elements so well, but they hide sever rust very well. not a good combo when buying a used vehicle. i've seen toy frames that appear very solid, yet you can poke a finger through them all over. don't hesitate to pull carpet back (especially on a 4 runner w/ removeable top), poke the frame with a screwdriver (especially around the front shackle mounts) and poke/prod the body all over.
9/6/2005 9:47:40 PM
^^ yeah i saw that 4runner yesterday, its an 89-90 4 door SASed on 37" MTR's, looks like it has the SKY front hanger, also rear leaf conversion and a body lift.
9/6/2005 10:26:44 PM
^what 4 runner? an 89 wouldn't be a 4 door, must have been a 90+. what color was it? i'm only aware of one SAS'd 2nd/3rd gen around here now since stone moved and parted his. the one i'm thinking of still has coils in the rear as far as i know though, and is running a 7mget.
9/6/2005 10:53:13 PM
Holy mother of God...as in a 3 liter 7MGE-T?
9/6/2005 11:08:58 PM
yup. w/ the boost turned up at that. dunno if he's got it fully tuned or not yet. he lives with a turbo guru that currently has a fully built supra with an ungodly amount of rwhp, so he had the hookup for the swap doing wiring, etc. it's really not a bad swap into those trucks, a number of people have done it. there was a guy on http://www.pirate4x4.com with one running 12's or something on 36-38" tires.
9/6/2005 11:26:35 PM
^^ haha thats my old supra turbo engine.thing packed a decent punch (for 1990) and was easily modded for more. i bet its nice in a old 4runner
9/6/2005 11:29:20 PM
it must be a 90, cause the grill says TOYOTA instead of the circled T emblem. It's off avent ferry across from centennial (sp?) at an apartment complex. it says its a 3.0 (but 3vze)it was either black or dark green I can't remember[Edited on September 7, 2005 at 8:41 AM. Reason : color]
9/7/2005 8:41:09 AM
why did my parents have to buy in 86 dammit
9/7/2005 10:17:39 AM
^^ it's at Ivy Commons.
9/7/2005 11:04:58 AM
this it?

http://www.supracharged.com/ just about everything you'd want to know about putting a supra motor in a truck. site owner did the original one into a 4 runner a few years ago.[Edited on September 7, 2005 at 2:58 PM. Reason : .]

And I didn't think that there was room for six in line in a Yota truck.I want to do one of these now.Actually, now I want to put a Nissan LD28 in a Yota or in a 720 or D21.
9/7/2005 3:28:01 PM
no i don't think so, unless its changed a little. It def. had rear leaves, a custom rear bumper/tire carrier as well as a plexiglass rear window (not that I can tell from that picture), and a snorkle.
9/7/2005 3:34:44 PM
that's off tryon road almost to kildaire right? i used to see those rigs all the time there
9/7/2005 3:35:19 PM
not it, drab olive color, beadlock wheels, no chrome around the wheelwellsthat's a sweet rig though, makin me jealous
