I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 6cyl. Recently I had new freon put in and afterwards I noticed my FM radio will not recieve any stations, the AM stations work fine. I'm sure it's just a loose cable somewhere as the FM worked briefly for a minute later that day, then went out again. I have searched online and in my manual but can not find a wiring diagram that shows where the wires for the antenna reception is. Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Thanks

the stock radios in those suck anyhow, it could just be a coincidence

I would say its probably the connection to your external antenna. By any chance is it mounted in one of the front fenders? Might have been bumped while they were under the hood. Try and trace the wire from the antenna mount to the firewall. Its usually a thick black cable that is about 1/4" in diameter. Turn on your radio, pop the hood and start jiggling wires. -- Dave

Dave,Already tried that, I took the nut off the antenna mount and was able to find the cable by looking through the crack when I had the passenger side door open but I lost it after it went through the firewall and was unable to find the cable while jiggling the antenna and looking under the hood. But the cable connection to the antenna was secure. I'm starting to think that if I can't find the cable under the hood that maybe it was just a coincidence that it went out after getting freon and maybe the problem is with the connection behind the radio itself. I really don't want to take the radio out to check that until I have to. Is there anything else I can check under the hood? Thanks for the replies.

probably just the radio crapped out on you, get an aftermarket one

was the shop that put the freon in trying unusually hard to get you to buy a new head unit?

Nah it was actually a guy I've known and trusted for about 15 years who has worked on all my vehicles, the problem is he is back home and I didn't notice it till I was heading back to Raleigh.
