I thought it was pretty damn good tonight [Edited on August 28, 2005 at 10:36 PM. Reason : l]
8/28/2005 10:36:32 PM
I was a little let down.
8/28/2005 10:37:40 PM
it was pretty good, spent a good amount of time on character introduction. Next week's episode looks good.
8/28/2005 11:07:52 PM
I'm liking the female full frontal nudity
8/29/2005 12:22:57 AM
hopefully they keep the homo to a minimum
8/29/2005 1:17:45 AM
I thought it was pretty good. Managed to introduce most of the major players and to get a decent look into life in Rome without dragging things along too much. And it actually did a good job of setting the stage for the remainder of the season.
8/29/2005 8:08:28 AM
When is this show on?
8/29/2005 4:14:16 PM
Sundays at 9 I think, but I am sure they will play it on the other HBO channels throughout the week.
8/29/2005 5:01:24 PM
what era of rome does it take place in, republic or imperial?
8/29/2005 6:27:18 PM
^It's in the late republic. Caesar has been in Gaul for around 8 years I think and he and Pompeii have had their falling out, so pretty much right before the civil war.
8/29/2005 8:08:08 PM
this thread is useless without pictures
8/29/2005 8:18:13 PM
^^Their falling out occurred during the first episode last night.
8/29/2005 8:26:08 PM
i want epic battles with hordes of barbarians being crushed by caesars legions
8/29/2005 10:26:39 PM
this series is going to be great methinkshbo can take over cable television as far as I'm concerned, that will teach Americans to stop being so anal about nudity
8/29/2005 10:41:46 PM
i am kinda distraught over how the HOME BOX OFFICE shows nothing but series and documentaries now. you have to buy all 7 of them if you wanna see an actual movie
8/29/2005 11:05:45 PM
I give it two thumbs up.However, Octavia's titties, I give two thumbs down.
8/29/2005 11:28:26 PM
ummm.... well if you get cable and order HBO, you get all 7 channels plus HBO-HD for the same price. i don't think you can just get plain HBO aloneand the other HBO channels have tons of movies
8/29/2005 11:29:30 PM
at home we only have regular hbo, but at school i get all of them
8/29/2005 11:48:19 PM
alright, legitimate gripe.... but it would be better directed to the cable company that's rippin you of the other 6 channels
8/30/2005 12:29:38 AM
8/30/2005 12:45:36 AM
I have to say though that mother's nipples were erect as hell when she was fucking that guyI wonder the actress was really that turned on or if she just iced them down
8/30/2005 1:04:30 AM
at first glance at the title of the thread i thought it was about jim romei was gonna post something along the lines that he drags on foreverbut if its about the city rome from back in the day i would def. be interestedlike 500bc-300ad is the shit history/culture wise
8/30/2005 1:11:43 AM
I thought the mom was the hottest chic on the show. Besides the dark haired chic who got bull blood splattered on her. Octavia was meh, clothed or naked.
8/30/2005 10:08:05 AM
Does Octavia get to have her husband back? Or will he not take her because dude didn't want her?
8/30/2005 11:13:44 AM

8/30/2005 2:42:34 PM
I thought mom implied that her daughter's husband "disappeared" or something on those lines.
8/31/2005 1:20:54 PM
^^That clears things up. I obviously wasn't paying much attention.[Edited on August 31, 2005 at 2:34 PM. Reason : a]
8/31/2005 2:31:37 PM
thought the show was pretty decent for a first episode. Titus was pretty badass
8/31/2005 2:44:58 PM
i caught it... and was...bored...i mean, it basically went through a bunch of stuff that we've all seen acted out in movies and on the history channel and added an element that felt strangely like Xena:Warrior Princess (not necessarily the b00bies, just the story)...i'll catch the next one, see if the fiction can make up for the fact that the history has been done, too often
8/31/2005 7:06:12 PM
There is a working torrent on tvtorrents.com
9/2/2005 8:47:44 AM
I was watching the behind the scenes stuff on the Deadwood DVD and the show's creator David Milch said he had originally pitched a show about centurians in Rome but the producers at HBO weren't impressed. So he came up with Deadwood instead. Milch isn't listed on IMDB as a writer/producer or otherwise for Rome. Makes ya wonder if HBO stole his idea or he sold it off to someone else or what.......
9/2/2005 8:03:44 PM
I thought he did have a hand in it.
9/3/2005 1:27:43 AM
first episode was good
9/3/2005 1:28:49 AM
9/4/2005 1:21:23 AM
second episode nowI wonder how accurate to history this islike if Tidus' gambling fight really did destroy any hope of peace[Edited on September 5, 2005 at 2:06 AM. Reason : grammar]
9/5/2005 1:56:08 AM
ep 2 and 3 torrents up
9/5/2005 2:05:50 AM
can a history major here tell me how much of a republic Rome actually was btw?like were these senators actually voted in in a fair election or what
9/5/2005 2:08:15 AM
yea thats the crazy thing -- there actually was a REAL democracythe court justices were chosen by LOT, meaning, randomly. other crazy shit too.
9/5/2005 2:14:38 AM
just watched 1-3 today on hbo in demand. not bad. i dont wanna talk about it thought because most of you probably havent seen episode 3 yet.
9/5/2005 4:11:03 PM
episode 2 was good. trying to dl episode 2 now.
9/5/2005 4:39:12 PM
episodes 1 and 2 are goodbit hard to follow at points, characters are becoming more developed for me though
9/5/2005 4:44:35 PM
The only thing Im really having trouble following is just how much time has past over the first 2 episodes. We started with Caesar just having defeated the gauls and now at the end of episode 2 hes crossing the rubicon. So am I correct in assuming about 5 years has past in these 2 episodes?
9/5/2005 5:20:01 PM
^i dont think so. that kid hasnt grown any. i dont know the time, though.
9/5/2005 5:22:19 PM
The dates I found have Caesar defeating Gaul in 55 BC, his daughter (pompey's wife) dies in 54, and then he crosses the rubicon in 49 and civil war starts.
