Guess what one of the new features is?Photo-quality WallpaperYes, I said it - photo-fucking-quality wallpaper.http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-3672_7-6300167-2.html?tag=ssHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*breahe*AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAWhat a load of horseshit. You would think after all these years they could come up with some features that weren't just cosmetic.
8/23/2005 11:30:06 AM
for the target audience that is worded great imho
8/23/2005 11:35:24 AM
^^They're just using the tried and true Apple marketing plan. You know, the one that gets all you fanboys in a uproar.
8/23/2005 5:34:20 PM
i fucking hate the new explorer :-(
8/23/2005 5:35:36 PM
no reason for the new OS if there's no improved FS or anything. not enough perks to get me.
8/23/2005 10:47:00 PM
Uhh...they've done more than cosmetic changes. How about the new windows OO API, winfx. How about giving .Net greater access to OS level calls? Instead of having to interopt the shit you need to do. How about the "cosmetic" things you are talking about are really texture mapped window frames allowing skinning to be done without gay as programs like windows-blinds. Avalon? The OS of the future isn't going to be omg it's like sex in a box, it's just going to be constantly refining at perfecting the art (as in, craft, not graphics) and customizations of the UI to better 'read' the user. Cosmetics will improve, you can't blame them for wanting it to be pretty. Do you enjoy using something that looks like shit? What about the new help system they are building in? I think it's called UA or something like that. It's going to take the next step beyond tooltips, and hopefully be useful. You know, just because it's M$, and we have redhat on campus, doesn't mean you guys have to give MS such shit for trying to make a better OS. They've made some bad steps along the way, but you've gota take the bad with the good, and accept there is loss/gain no matter what OS you choose. The steps they are making are mostly to improve preformance, in games, and to allow developers a better platform to develop for.You will see better software from empowered individuals because of their attempts.Whether or not it will pop up asking you for your windows CD key, and wait for a hand print to play an MP3 will be another matter.[Edited on August 23, 2005 at 11:10 PM. Reason : yup]

are Avalon and Indigo going to be native in Vista?
8/23/2005 11:23:48 PM
but jesus christ in nearly 6 fucking years thats ALL they came up with? i mean shit
8/23/2005 11:57:32 PM
That's not "All" they came up with. There are fine complexities of creating an OS. That simply can't be summed up in a paragraph, or 15 screenshots. There's not that big a difference between windows 95 and 2000, if you we're just looking at screen shots.
8/24/2005 12:02:26 AM
all they had to do was copy OS X
8/24/2005 1:29:42 AM
avalon and indigo are going to be "native" in XP SP2+ as well.
8/24/2005 2:24:27 AM
i had to look up wtf avalon and indigo are: http://www.developer.com/net/net/article.php/3523356 - fyi.
8/24/2005 9:15:19 AM
8/24/2005 9:19:06 AM
mmk i hope you're being sarcastic.photo quality wallpaper doesn't need to be reverse-engineeredand neither do any of the visual adaptations that all these programs have been adding to windows for years.[Edited on August 24, 2005 at 9:22 AM. Reason : .]
8/24/2005 9:22:05 AM
That part was half joke, half serious. Most of the new features are really just bullshit, and pretty much all of them are in OS X now.
8/24/2005 9:24:35 AM
And copying a good idea is bad, why? I don't use OS X, and if Mac is to stupid to port their shit to my hardware, I want someone to offer me the same features so that I can use them.
8/24/2005 9:28:53 AM
yep i love this entbloess window switcher and the winroll program, etc.
8/24/2005 9:29:49 AM
Yea.All of them are in OSX now.So why would you buy...OSX Tiger?OH WAIT A FUCKING MINUTE HERE.
