Do you think it will catch on? It kills me to see the prices for some of them.$25 dollars for most of them and they don't have half the features that the DVD has.
8/22/2005 4:26:37 PM
no
8/22/2005 4:27:20 PM
what is this?
8/22/2005 4:28:45 PM
LaserDiscs will come back. Just give it time.
8/22/2005 4:28:47 PM
Never. If they priced them at $10 that would be a good place to start.
8/22/2005 4:29:11 PM
yea i think the idea is neat with the psp and all, but i'm not paying 15-25 bucks for a movie with no special features that i can only play on the psp.
8/22/2005 7:19:05 PM
Well, if you have a PSP and you want to watch movies on it, then you'd get UMDs. Otherwise, there is no point.
8/22/2005 10:17:01 PM
I have a PSP and I want to watch movies on it, but I don't want to pay as much as I do or more for a DVD of significantly higher quality.
8/22/2005 11:10:09 PM
noif i had a pspand i wanted to watch movies on itI'D DO LIKE THE SMART PEOPLE AND JUST HAXXOR THE GIBSONand then watch the movies i have on my computer
8/22/2005 11:14:19 PM
It's not even hacking for videos.Unless you consider drag and drop hacking.
8/22/2005 11:17:18 PM
its not?wtfwhy didn't i buy one of these when i saw a used one for teh $cheap
8/22/2005 11:26:44 PM
i've just been takin dvd's and converting them and puttin em on my memory card. the only advantage of the umd is it saves me 300mb for another movie or some mp3s or somethin. when the umd's get to 5-10 bucks, where they belong, then i'll consider em. as of now, i got T2 right when i got the psp cause i was feeling a little saucy, and i think thats where the umd's movies will end for me for now.
8/22/2005 11:29:19 PM
so seriously, you just plug the memory stick in and you can watch DIVX or something?holy fuckused PSP time
8/22/2005 11:41:18 PM
^ no it's a little more complicated then that. you have to use a program to convert it to mp4 (for now). but it is still really easy. If you're looking to get a used PSP make sure you get firmware version 1.50 however. otherwise you can't do any of the cool stuff with it.As far as the topic goes, I picked up a couple of UMD movies at BJs for $12 a piece. That's closer to the price that I think they should be at.
8/22/2005 11:51:51 PM
oh yeahi forgot about the firmware update"for YOUR safety!"hehwhen i asked the guy @ eb-games if the PSP they had had the old firmware, he got noticably upsetbut then when the other customer left, he was like "yeah, i have one too and i haven't updated the firmware"
8/22/2005 11:57:44 PM
yeah, they don't like it when you go to EB Games and ask if they have any used xboxes that were manufactured in 2002 either. When they ask why and you tell them they're easier to mod they really get pissy.
8/23/2005 12:00:00 AM
whats the problem with puttin movies on it with the latest firmware? and were those movies at BJs on sale or was that just the regular price? 12 isnt too shabby if they have something that isnt crap
8/23/2005 2:25:12 AM
I wish we could get the deal like they have in japan, where you pay like 7 extra bucks on the DVD and get a UMD too, I'd actually spring for that
8/23/2005 2:41:08 AM
^^oh you can put movies on the new firmware just fine. In fact you can even use the new h.264 codec in version 2.0 which is supposedly different, or better or something. What you can't do on the 2.0 is play emulated games, homebrew software, and downloaded commercial roms. If all you want to do is use the PSP for watching movies, then 2.0 is perfectly fine for that.oh and that was the normal price for the movies at BJs. They have a selection of 15-20 movies at that price.[Edited on August 23, 2005 at 3:44 AM. Reason : BJs]

Now if they started released UMD-RW's that were compatible with like a DVD-RW drive or something like that, it would probably get a lot more popular.
8/23/2005 7:27:40 AM
Have you seen a UMD? That wouldn't really work.
8/23/2005 9:12:58 AM
as retarded as mini-discs
8/23/2005 9:15:49 AM
They do have UMD-R's. They are called Hi-MD. 1 GB storage.GG sony for not utilizing compression and its own rewritable MD format.
8/23/2005 10:03:07 AM
they just love to create their own proprietary shit don't they
8/23/2005 10:33:10 AM
Memory stick what?
