looks gaudy, whats with all the cladding
8/18/2005 9:57:07 PM
you can question body cladding or a spolier on a 200 hp vehicle, but not on a 500+ hp vehicle. such a vehicle has earned the right to have those.

Anyone else find a resemblance in the Chevy Trailblazer???

^ that's a pretty stupid argument.why is it always used against super-utes, and not super-sedans?i mean what's the use of a 500+ hp sedan? do you need a car that powerful to go to work, or to lug your family around?i am not saying that such powerful SUVs are not stupid, i am just pointing out the inconsistency with which that argument is used.450+ hp sedans, wagons, trucks, and SUVs exist, but that argument is always used against SUVs only.

id rather have the bmw, porsche, vw, or audi over that thing[Edited on August 18, 2005 at 10:36 PM. Reason : trailblazer]

hideous
8/19/2005 1:34:18 AM
I'm less upset by the lack of real design separation in the current M class relative to the first one than by the fact that the new M will be the starting point for the new G-class...
8/19/2005 3:02:30 AM
yoshow me a thread for a 500hp station wagon and i'll ask why soccer mom needs that shit too
8/19/2005 8:28:40 AM
I heard that eventually they're gonna slap some twin turbos onto that beautiful new engine, hehe.
8/19/2005 10:59:55 AM
its oklike a 7.5 out of 10 maybe 7
8/19/2005 11:07:29 AM
^^^ but you won't question sedans, i suspect.because 500 hp sedans are for men, and men need 500 hp vehicles, right? for what, picking up the beer? ^^^^ yeah well you know MB always goes for subtle evolution between generations, so it is ok. but yes, the new G class will be completely watered down from the current formidable military truck. it will be quite similar to the ML class, which is not right.[Edited on August 19, 2005 at 11:09 AM. MB makes ugly SUV's. They all look terrible.
8/20/2005 4:39:56 PM
I believe the Z06 makes 500 even. Regardless, the Z06's engine is significantly larger.Just saying.
8/20/2005 4:57:53 PM
saleen s7 anyone? 7L N/A (ford bore-center based) v8 , 550 hp... although now I bet they only sell the twin-turbos as anyone ponying up 400k+ is going to go for the full 750 or so....ascari kz1 also has a 500 hp version of the previous m5's 5.0L v8.... but no that isn't more than the '63.[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 8:40 AM. and btw... interesting move MB is making here. replacing:supercharged 5.5L v8: 493 hp, 516 lbftwith NA 6.3L v8: 510 hp, 465 lbftdunno about you, but I think I'd prefer the older motor in bigass cruising cars. In an SLK the new motor might be more fun, but you just know that the older s/c v8 has an incomparably broad torque curve the new motor won't be able to match. hopefully MB knows this and will go for a revvier, wilder approach or else this'll be one of those moves that the public backlashes against and makes the outgoing cars inexplicably depreciation resistant, like porsche ended up (accidentally?) doing for the 993 and earlier air-cooled 911s.edit:looks like I ought to just read the article:Compression ratio 11.3 : 1Output 510 bhp at 6,800 rpmMax. torque 465 lb-ft at 5,200 rpmpretty sure the redline on the old motor was ~6000 and the torque peak was at ~2700, so this is VERY different... I'll go check. I know I've seen the 55 or 65 in the news lately... I might be thinking of the 65...[Edited on August 30, 2005 at 9:12 AM. Reason : .]

The LS7 does 505 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. It was revised up 5hp after SAE tightened its standards for horsepower estimation.
