i know the DVD was released yesterday, but it isnt the one i was hoping for w/ all the deleted scenes, etc. i also heard somewhere there would be a release which has all 3 stories seperated with extra scenes added..any word on this? any one know if/when a better DVD will be released?

i'm sure a better dvd will be released sometime or anotheri mean i didn't even think sin city was that goodso any old dvd will probably be better
8/17/2005 4:18:20 PM
i'm sure a better release will come, but i bought this release anyways. i'll buy the other when it comes out.
8/17/2005 4:23:34 PM
i thought it was awesome. i guess ill buy this DVD, for $15 wont kill me i guess
8/17/2005 4:30:06 PM
Yeah, I bought it even though I knew a Special Edition was on the way eventually. I like the multiple covers you could choose from.
8/17/2005 5:40:55 PM
^yeah except that best buy put 2 big stickers on the sleeve. i got the one on the front off but the one on the back was being a pain.

The fact that it's actually 16x9 is the best part of the entire thing.
8/17/2005 8:48:26 PM
wheres the version where Nancy wears her real costume, or lack of costume
8/18/2005 11:14:32 AM
I thought this movie did exactly what it was supposed to do. It was the first comic book to film movie Ive seen that actually seemed like a comic book. I've never read any of the comics, but the movie was pretty cool. And I wanted a damn cigarette after about 20 minutes of watching that in teh theater.

Unlike virtually every other movie that's come out recently, Sin City is in a 16x9 (1.85:1) aspect ratio, meaning if you have a widescreen TV (or in our case, projector screen) it fills the entire thing, whereas 16x10 gives you black bars. Not that I mind black bars, except it's pretty stupid that all widescreen screens are 16x9 and then someone decided "hey, that's not wide enough" and everything went to 16x10.
8/18/2005 12:40:09 PM
Ok, first of all, theres no such thing as 16:10...and if there was, it wouldnt be as wide as 16:9. Seriously, where did you hear 16:10...did you just make that up?16:9 is NOT 1.85:1. 16:9 equals 1.78:1. This is the aspect ratio of HDTV as well as a few movies such as Once Upon a Time in Mexico (which RR shot on 1080p video cameras rather than film). There are a TON of movies in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio...pick 10 recent movies at random, chances are 4-6 of them are 1.85:1. Yes there are slight black bars with this, but with overscan you will never be able to see the difference. And to stay on the original topic, theres supposed to be an SE in the not to distant future with each of the "episodes" as a "mini-movie" from what Ive heard, with additional scenes added back in....but since I still havent seen that Kill Bill SE yet, no reason not to get this now, especially if the later doesnt have the theatrical version on it. I picked up the Marv cover....looked like there were tons of the Bruce Willis cover but only a couple of Marv covers...if any of these become worth anything, that will be the one.[Edited on August 18, 2005 at 1:58 PM. 2.35:1 ftl
8/18/2005 1:43:06 PM
we need more 2.76:1 movies!or not
8/18/2005 1:46:50 PM
8/18/2005 2:08:24 PM
Stein can we at least agree2.35:1 ftl ?
8/18/2005 4:06:13 PM
OH NOES, BLACK BARS.God forbid someone would want as much composition space as possible.
8/18/2005 4:59:49 PM
The majority of movies are flat. I don't know why you're making such a big deal about it.
8/18/2005 5:29:31 PM
absolutely the worst god damn movie i have seen since panic room
9/22/2005 7:29:29 PM
where is the version where alba gets naked?
9/22/2005 8:52:10 PM
9/22/2005 10:05:01 PM
the fact that you actually took the time to see panic room makes me lolthis movie was fun, innovative and entertaining. it wasnt GREAT but it was good
9/23/2005 3:29:28 AM
I dunno if it's very innovative (aside from the source material). I mean, they used the same shit to make Spy Kids 3-D...in the same garage, no less.
9/23/2005 3:35:23 AM
just the approach to the film and the way it was made is totally diff than all the other comic book movies out there right now. maybe unique was a better word? i dono
9/23/2005 3:47:54 AM
yeah i agree, i think this movie had more of a comic book feel than any other comic book movie. with maybe the exception of the incredible hulk
9/23/2005 9:58:43 AM
but the incredible hulk sucked
9/23/2005 11:03:00 AM
yeah, but the way the scenes were cut made it look like you were reading panels out of a comic book. i thought that was pretty cool, which is why i said it had more of a comic book feel.
9/23/2005 11:05:29 AM
i own panic room
9/23/2005 11:09:45 AM
im not easily phased but i found sin city to be exceedingly over the top and terribly nasty. lots of hoes though, yeah, good on the hoecount.

damn $40.... even on sale i don't see that dipping below $30 anytime soon. that's more than i paid for the 4 disc LOTR sets..... but the features sound very cool so we'll see.
10/4/2005 9:02:01 PM
10/4/2005 9:33:42 PM
if you are a casual movie fan, will you like this movie? is it entertaining?
10/4/2005 10:04:04 PM
If you don't mind extreme violence, probably.
10/4/2005 10:26:55 PM
its in black and white, so no, the casual movie fan will NOT enjoy this movie.sorry. its sad, but true.
10/4/2005 10:47:01 PM
if you enjoy seeing a guy with his throat cut and a pistol slide driven in his forehead having a conversation with another fella then yeah youll love it
10/5/2005 12:42:11 AM
Extended cut is released today....I bought the original release thinking this new release would only be the extended cut as I wanted the theatrical version as well, but the new one has it all...so off to Half it goes....unless any of you guys want it....its the Marv cover. Also, Buy.com for $24.99, DDD has it for $24.89
12/13/2005 5:20:20 AM

12/13/2005 11:15:40 AM

12/13/2005 6:05:58 PM
