Does anybody have a release date for this phone? I would totally give a handjob to anybody who knows.
8/11/2005 1:58:28 PM
For you, never. That product will not come to the US.Its already been released in Europe.
8/11/2005 1:59:25 PM
Their website says it's coming soon to America.
8/11/2005 2:12:52 PM
the w800a will be released in america.. that is if they do release a 'locked' american version.. no one knowsif only they would open the Cell phone market would we have wide range of phones to choose from. [Edited on August 11, 2005 at 2:25 PM. Reason : ]
8/11/2005 2:23:31 PM
Gotta agreethe cellphone industry in the US is in some weird form of lockdown.
8/11/2005 2:29:54 PM
actually saw a guy in the library sitting across the table from me with one of these phonesi have the k700i, i got it off ebay..works fine. the w800 is also known as the k750...http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=696
8/11/2005 2:35:13 PM
It could say "available now" on the website and I can assure you 100% that you won't see it.If by some chance, you could, it would be the European version. Sorry fellas.[Edited on August 11, 2005 at 2:39 PM. Reason : European versions will work fine in most major cities under Cingular.]
8/11/2005 2:36:52 PM
Do you work at Sony Ericsson? This is just irritating. Why would they have it listed as coming soon in the United States if it wasn't happening? It's been up there for a month or more. I'm looking for something newer and smaller than the s710a.
8/11/2005 2:42:41 PM
Beats me why its listed. You want the W600a. That's your joint. It should be out for the holiday season.[Edited on August 11, 2005 at 2:45 PM. Reason : Actually, S700i is listed there too. As I said, these are Euro phones.]
8/11/2005 2:44:39 PM
I guess I'll just get the s710a.This is frustrating.
8/11/2005 3:01:36 PM
S710a is an awsome phone.Obviously I'd recommend it to anyone.
8/11/2005 3:14:59 PM
is the walkman phone gonna be any smaller than the s710a or same size?
8/11/2005 3:16:14 PM
The w800i is 1.3 oz lighter.
8/11/2005 3:18:43 PM
it says coming soon.. not coming soon to america..and the way Sony Ericsson labels their phones is anything with an i at the end is international, a for america.. any X###a will work in america.. although the i phones may work on certain providers like SandSanta mentioned
8/11/2005 3:24:07 PM
It asks you what country you are in, and then shows you the list of phones.Which would mean, one might think--crazily enough--that those are the phones available in your country.Especially since it shows a different list of phones depending on what country you select.]
8/11/2005 3:25:35 PM
8/11/2005 3:34:16 PM
It does look fruity.
8/11/2005 3:35:22 PM
Buy-it-now on eBay is around $480-530
8/11/2005 5:55:55 PM
That is not a bad price for that phone.Remember though, it operates on European GSM bands meaning you'll only be able to use the 1900MHz band.Still decent reception around cities.
8/11/2005 6:07:59 PM
not in this state
8/11/2005 6:09:10 PM
I bought the k750i from an e-tailer for $375 plus ship...I simply put in my SIM card and it was working great. I like the 2megapixel camera a lot and the MP3 player works great, especially with a 1GB MS Pro Duo memory card. Though the phone is only available in Europe and Asia, it will work on the 1900 mhz band here which I find has sufficient coverage round these parts.Plus it looks a lot cooler than the w800 since it's black and not orange and white:[Edited on August 11, 2005 at 10:50 PM. Reason : added 2nd pic]
8/11/2005 10:49:08 PM
^ Looks like my t637
8/11/2005 10:50:26 PM
i used to have the t610 -- the screen is so shitty and dim, but this one freakin rocks it's much higher res and the brightness is much improved so you can easily read it in full sun.
8/11/2005 10:52:27 PM
I've got a k750 and it rocks!!!!!!!!! I really do like the w800 design so i've bought the housing for it and will install it to make a k800 i guess. Can't wait till the housing comes in.
8/11/2005 11:22:04 PM
^if you want to get rid of your k750 case I'd be very interested in having a spare case for mine assuming yours is in really good shape. PM me please.
8/12/2005 12:30:43 AM
8/12/2005 9:46:18 AM
the w800 and the k750 are very similar which is prolly why that webpage said they were the same phone. w800 sw will work in the k750 (i've done it ). i like the way the k750 looks more tho...and the k750 will still play mp3s just like the w800. the way you access/play the files are just slightly different
8/12/2005 9:57:05 AM
Cingular has decent 1900 coverage in this state around major cities.
8/12/2005 10:01:32 AM
i've been carrying a k750i around and have had no problems. the w600 and z520, both coming out soon, are quad band phones [Edited on August 12, 2005 at 10:07 AM. Reason : ]
8/12/2005 10:07:06 AM
well there is no 850 band coverage here in the raleigh area, so any coverage cingular has here is 1900.when you start getting away from this area is when having 850 band would help, but the phone does have AMR so audio quality will improve as signal strength gets worse. 1900 band is enough.
8/12/2005 10:09:41 AM
You'll have 1900 guaranteed coverage anywhere Cingular has EDGE/GPRS rolled out:http://onlinestoree.cingular.com/html/Maps/dataconnect_map.htmBasically, any place you want to be in will be covered.
8/12/2005 10:17:35 AM
cool they've added a lot of edge coverage it looks like, denser than last time i played with it^^in general cingular is 850mhz in nc
8/12/2005 11:36:42 AM
i said raleigh area though, there is very little 850 coverage. it's basically 100% 1900 in this area, which is what i was talking about.
8/12/2005 12:32:50 PM
^^ There is no "in general."Along highways and in major cities its 1900 MHz. If you look at cingulars coverage map, almost ALL of NC is 1900MHz.In fact, you'd have to go far out west to hit 850MHz.[Edited on August 12, 2005 at 12:57 PM. Reason : Western US.]
8/12/2005 12:57:07 PM
(actually nevermind i was getting them backwards, what i read was right but about 1900 CA, NV, NYC, NC)[Edited on August 12, 2005 at 1:04 PM. Reason : is ma still 850 esxclusively?]
8/12/2005 1:02:14 PM
i doubt there's anywhere in the US that is exclusively 850 band, and by anywhere i mean places people have heard of. i don't know that for sure, but i really think there is 1900 coverage throughout the US
8/12/2005 7:47:45 PM
maryland[Edited on August 12, 2005 at 8:11 PM. Reason : maybe not anymore though]
8/12/2005 8:10:43 PM
Okay, here's the deal.Somebody buy me this phone.Make it work in all of NC.And give me a handjob.
8/12/2005 8:36:37 PM
Stop spouting random facts in an attempt to seem knowledgable.Nobody interested in this board needs to worry about 1900mhz coverage.
8/13/2005 3:15:17 AM
i want one of those damn phones. i hate seeing the people from downstairs carrying them around and not even knowing how to use them.
8/15/2005 10:47:18 AM
I'm going to have to eat a bit of crow and say that this phone will be available in Sony Style stores and from the Sony Ericsson website by end of August.Don't know price information but I assume $texas as the phone is not tied to a carrier that I know of.I think I may actually put down money to get one.
8/16/2005 10:20:17 AM
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggg
8/16/2005 12:32:20 PM
If it's less than $400 I'll definitely get it. If it's more, I'd have to think about it.p.s. I feel great rage towards SandSanta.
8/16/2005 4:16:09 PM
Sony W800i is $479.http://www.myworldphone.com/w800i.htmSony k750i is $374.http://www.myworldphone.com/k750.htmlI highly recommend that e-tailer since that's where I got my k750i from. They shiped quick and even accept PayPal. I think the k750i is a much better value than the w800i, plus the k750 looks better, IMHO. It would appear that the w800i is shipping now since it doesn't say otherwise...let us know what you decide to get.
8/16/2005 7:59:42 PM
What's the difference between the two? The specs looks basically the same to me.
8/16/2005 8:15:55 PM
maybe you should wait for the model that gives hand jobs.[Edited on August 16, 2005 at 8:58 PM. Reason : I think it's already out in japan.]
8/16/2005 8:58:17 PM
Coming to the US this month.http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?ContentId=5027
8/16/2005 9:38:49 PM
they are basically the same phone, different package, theme, colors, maybe software. also the w800 comes with a bigger memory card, and a rumor of better headphones but of course you can upgrade those. the guts are essentially the same in both.[Edited on August 16, 2005 at 9:51 PM. Reason : VERDICT: not enough difference for $100 IMO.]
8/16/2005 9:50:48 PM
8/17/2005 12:28:28 PM
It goes on sale a week from tomorrow, asking price is $500.
