8/8/2005 11:26:42 AM
404, ya heard! But seriously, I'm here for another year for my MBA @ Emory. Then it's time to move on again (I hope, because this place is becoming boring really fast).
8/8/2005 2:33:39 PM
don't like ATL?
8/8/2005 2:43:20 PM
I race sailboats for fun, so I haven't had much of that fun in Atlanta. And please don't be like the locals and tell me I can sail on Lake Lenier. It takes four hours to get anywhere from here. Public transportation sucks and traffic is horrible (it takes me 20 mins to drive 3 miles to school in the morning). Oh, and I moved here from San Diego, so any city is likely to piss me off after living there. If I have to stay to work for a couple of years experience, I will. But there is no way I'll be here after my early 30's.
8/8/2005 3:56:53 PM
You're in Decatur? I'm in Vinings
8/10/2005 11:59:24 AM
3 1/2 yrs. and going strong, there's so much to do here! And yes, if you have a problem with traffic, don't move here, you won't like it. If you realize that a cool, growing city is going to have traffic problems and can look past it, then Atlanta is the place for you.
8/11/2005 11:22:05 PM
Besides..If you live in the city (and you should if you're under 30), then it only takes 20 min. to get most everywhere. I live in Brookhaven/Buckhead.http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=315241&page=2#6760980

Traffic isn't my problem. I had to deal with military base traffice every year for the past 5 years of my life. Yeah, it sucks having to spend about an hour and a half on the road each day to cover about 20 miles. What's worse is that Atlanta and the people who live here seem content to deal with it (short of talk of another perimeter road that may or may not happen before we die). The worst part of this city is it takes a minimum of 4 hours to get to other "big" cities on the weekends - Charlotte, Savannah, Charleston, Jacksonville all require leaving work early just to sit in traffic and get there by dark. And frankly, those places don't make me scream ROAD TRIP (outside of St Pats in Savannah). Places like LA, San Fran, Seattle, Boston, and New York all have much more interesting places to travel to that are accessible by car. Atlanta basically forces you to fly to take trips. And I look through that thread you linked to. It seems that most people think the things to do here are a) drink, b) go to a park, or c) hit the touristy things that can be seen in about 4 weekends. There is zero culture here - museums and theatres are sparse at best.
8/12/2005 5:06:58 PM
I'm not content with the traffic, I do however deal with it by knowing alternative routes and traffic patterns. I agree, something does need to be done, the merging of two massive interstates in the middle of downtown to save a little money was not exactly the smartest thing to do...If you want culture (and this is by far not an inclusive list because apparently all I do is drink, party, and go to the park):Stone Mtn., Zoo Atlanta, Botanical Gardens, Cyclorama Civil War, new aquarium (largest in the US -- opening in Nov.), Dogwood Festival, endless concerts throughout the year with several great venues, comedy clubs such as the Punchline, Screen on the Green, the Peachtree Battle, the Fernbank, the High, etc. Atlanta is still relatively young & growing, not really fair to compare with LA, NYC, and the like.
8/15/2005 4:43:18 PM

8/21/2005 12:20:16 PM
Season Pass baby!Whitewater next weekend too, awesome
8/21/2005 10:02:19 PM
I'm in Athens! DZ, we have been needing to get together for a while now! When will you be free?
8/22/2005 12:43:19 AM
I was in Atlanta for an internship this summer, and I had a nice time there. My only problem with the city was that it wasn't as "southern" as I had hoped. I've been in Philly the past year, and was ready to get back to the south, but Atlanta really wasn't it. And the airport is a pain - that place is a madhouse at 8:00 on a Monday morning. Gracious. I did enjoy going to the bars in the Highlands and Braves games though. I'm a pretty easy person to please
9/10/2005 7:01:31 PM

11/12/2005 8:17:55 PM
My boyfriend works at the Atlanta Fish Market. Are you in the apartment complex across the street?
11/13/2005 5:38:04 PM
No, I have a friend who lives in the building you're talking about (the new 20-story one, right?). I live on the other side of Peachtree, back where those 2 tall high-rise complexes are (behind the B&N and Publix)
11/14/2005 9:51:57 PM

11/18/2005 7:49:47 PM
11/21/2005 2:52:40 AM
yeah I think that's it! You can walk up the steps to it from the gate on the street right? And it has that courtyard surrounded units with the pool? If so, that's it My friends used to live there, and are now across the street from tha aquarium in a loft. Isn't that place expensive though?I feel totally gay for saying this, but we should have a meetup or something since there's a few of us down here now.
11/23/2005 11:32:10 AM
Yeah, its pretty expensive. My 1 bedroom is running me around $820 a month, and its not even that nice.
11/23/2005 2:26:04 PM
welcome to Atlanta I'm used to that by now... I'm actually looking to move in Jan. to a new place probably in/near midtown and won't be surprised to pay $850-900 for it... Wish I could afford Atlantic Station, those places are niiice!
11/23/2005 6:56:07 PM
11/23/2005 11:46:23 PM
I also live on N. Druid, at the corner of N. Druid and Buford Hwy at the Cliffs @ Buckhead (used to be Windsor @ Buckhead). Can't wait to move though, these people are nazis and the ammenities suck.
11/25/2005 11:42:50 AM
man, this is the cheapest city I've lived in since the mid 90's...you guys have had it too easy first in raleigh then hereI get the same space in a 1BR for half of what a small 2BR cost me in SoCal
11/26/2005 5:37:13 AM

Haha that's not brave, it's the new rich chic. Yeah whoever said, "let's put this really expensive shit next to government housing" wins.
12/4/2005 2:46:13 PM
holiday/new years plans? in Atlanta?I have friends coming into town, not sure what we're doing yet.Someone mentioned a party going on at the aquarium, but it's $texas. Not sure if I want to go downtown again -- Collective Soul will be there, though...
12/11/2005 3:29:15 PM
what goes on downtown for new years? something like the ball dropping i assume? ps. what the hell was the deal with 85N today? its sunday afternoon for crying out loud.
12/12/2005 12:45:49 AM
Yeah, they do the peach drop in Atlanta at five points in downtown, usually have a band or two playing.Assume nothing when it comes to traffic in Atlanta...Not sure about 85N, I didn't leave Buckhead yesterday. I left work at 11:30pm one night last week and got stuck in a jam on I-20 next to Six Flags.
12/12/2005 7:24:42 AM
I assume we are going to the Underground for New Years this year....anyone down for that?
12/12/2005 10:20:16 AM
I may very well be about to become owner (majority owner) of a bar in downtown Athens, GA!
12/16/2005 4:17:45 AM
wooo hoo! let me now and I'll definitely spread the word to my UGA friends
12/16/2005 11:59:30 PM
is the new years celebration at the underground as ghetto as it is during the day time?
