I have a Netgear WG111 USB 2.0 Wireless G adapter in one of my old machines, which only has USB 1.1 on board. So, I picked up a cheap PCI 2 port USB 2.0 card and connected the Netgear adapter through it. No problem. Then under heavy load (transferring large files from one computer to another) the connection fails after a few seconds of file transfer. I cannot ping my router or the other computer which was trying to connect. Windows tells me the 54mbps connection dropped to 2mbps.Any ideas?

Might be 'cause USB 1.1 has a maximum throughput of something like 12 Mbps.

Router: Netgear WGR614 Wireless B/G RouterPC #1: Built computer (1999) with USB 1.1 on board. PCI USB 2.0 addon card (CompUSA branded). Netgear WG111 USB 2.0 Wireless G adapter (no issues through the USB 1.1 on board. No issues through the CompUSA branded card until under heavy load).PC #2: Dell Inspiron 700M Intel Centrino. No issues.Note: Built computer is not directly wired to the router due to the cable setup in my apartment.Let me know if you need any other info.

I'm telling you, you've got a bottleneck trying to squeeze a 54 Mbps connection through architecture that only handles 12 Mbps max. Tone down the speed to like 11 Mbps and you'll be...well, you MIGHT be fine.

^ right if it is connected through my USB 1.1 ports. But I am running it through my USB 2.0 PCI card that I just installed, which shouldn't be an issue. But it is.
