I'm just wondering what kind of MP3 players you guys have experience with and would recommend. I would like to have ~5-10 Gigs. I'm currently looking at the Dell DJ....any suggestions?//Desh

iPOD ---- sorry 20 GIGS, but the BEST ....NB:I have the 60gb one ...

so you think it's worth jumping onto the Ipod bandwagon?

If you really really want something that can play videos and record sound and wash your car and cook your dinner, then get something else.If you want something to play music, then the iPod has the best and easiest interface and integration with the computer.

I'm getting a free 4GB iPod mini through my work this month...I'm curious to see if they live up to the hype. I guess for free, I can't complain either way though...

i was shopping around for mp3 players, and i really really didn't want to get an ipod, but comparing it to the other mp3 players, they do offer the best price for the size of the unit and size of the hard drive.the only other mp3 player that holds more than 20gb is the creative one, but that thing is the size of my shoe.

http://www.iriveramerica.com/prod/hd/h10_20gb.aspx Iriver H10 works fine for me. The main reason I got it over the Ipod is the radio and voice/radio recorder (awesome quality if I might add). Hope that helps.

has anyone played around with a Dell DJ? The ipod is starting to sound better and better...
8/5/2005 12:07:18 PM
They're all about the same. Don't buy into the ipod hype. I got a 30% off a 30GB Dell DJ cupon if you're interested. It brings the price under $150.

The base ipod used to be leagues ahead of every other player, but now its about average.Check out http://www.cnet.com for detailed reviews of mp3 players
8/5/2005 1:22:32 PM
Check out the Sony and Toshiba jukeboxes also. The Sony comes with a 40 hour battery life!

Phone + SD card.

I want an RCA Lyranothing like having an mp3 player that plays divx tooand 20 gig internal doesn't hurt... especially since you can plug an SD card in as well

^http://reviews.cnet.com/RCA_Lyra_A_V_Jukebox_RD2780/4852-6499_7-20789364.html?tag=uolstApperently the Lyra freezes a lot, has crappy battery life, and takes forever to load. If you want a PVP I would recommend an Archos, the AV420 and Gmini 400 look pretty nice.

The Dell Jukebox sucks.
8/5/2005 8:45:07 PM
how are the refurb'd mp3 players?
8/5/2005 8:46:04 PM
my gf really likes her i-river
8/5/2005 8:54:15 PM
pony up for an ipod
8/5/2005 9:14:36 PM
i have a dell pda ... i just use that to listen to music on my walks to class
8/5/2005 9:17:02 PM
i might break down and buy an ipod some day... i dont want to, but they wouldn't be selling the shit out of them if they weren't good

1GB ^?
8/6/2005 11:07:51 AM
thats an odd looking thing at 1inch in size. Seems like you'd lose it.
8/6/2005 11:23:33 AM
walmart had those 1gb ones for $99 the other week. I saw it on slickdeals and thought about getting it, but i would loose it and it's only 1gb. Seems to have really good reviews though.
8/6/2005 11:51:13 AM
ipod sound quality is shit. The only thing they have going for them is they look cool, and that is important.
8/6/2005 11:57:14 AM
My iPod sounds great. It might be those Apple ear buds with shitty sound quality.
8/6/2005 1:13:28 PM
If you get one that's too small to hold most or all of the music you listen toyou're going to save nowbut end up being sorry.
8/6/2005 2:03:05 PM
^yeah i got a 20gb ipod about 6 months ago because it was ~$100 cheaperafter about two weeks i realized i should've gone with the 60gb
8/6/2005 2:22:08 PM
exactlyi mean it would be a tremendous pain in the ass to switch music in and out of one
8/6/2005 2:32:15 PM
it wasso i sold it and bought a 60gb
8/6/2005 5:06:56 PM
well, it looks like i can get the 30gb Dell DJ for $224 before tax or shipping. But the Ipod is so tempting since the 20gb model has the color display for $299. Such decisions....
8/6/2005 6:00:45 PM
again, the mabiBLU is another reason why i think the shuffle is an over-priced over-hyped piece of junk
8/6/2005 6:28:55 PM
depends why u need itif its for running, id get a cheap 128 MB onei gota muvo tx and i love it
8/6/2005 6:41:17 PM
bttt for a quick question:How many mp3 players out there have the capability to pull photos off a camera onto the hard drive? I know the iPod has the little adaptor that can pull photos directly off the camera. How about iRiver? Samsung?
8/11/2005 4:11:31 PM
http://us.creative.com/products/products.asp?category=213&subcategory=214&product=10795creative labs zen micro. comes in 4, 5 and 6GB. i've had mine for a month and love it. I like the scroll pad (up and down) better than ipod's circular. (I just can't get the hang of the circle/dont really want to)I'd say its got the most features for its price and size
8/11/2005 4:41:14 PM
At work we are all getting free iPods for meeting a goal, and so everyone comes to me asking how to use them and where to get music. After I explain a few places to get mp3s, one lady asks, "So do I have to have an mp3 player to play them?".
8/11/2005 6:00:38 PM
The iPod would be much better if they went back to the original 2G interface (solid state wheel with surround buttons):I dropped mine from six feet on concrete and it finally broke after almost three years of faithful service, but I don't like the new interface at all and it's keeping me from buying a new one.

Sony NW-HD5 trumps iPod (I am deciding between this and iPod)20 GB40 hr battery lifeRemovable battery (carry a spare!)Smaller and lighter than IpodBetter sound quality tham iPod (according to users who have both)Rotatable screen (90 and 180 degrees) depending on how you carry it in your pocket!!! (buttons change accordingly!!!)Only thing uncool: no touchpadAlso, according to some people online, the included software is not as good as Apple's Rotated:[Edited on August 18, 2005 at 3:56 PM. ^students get the color ipod photo 20 gb for 269 while the cheapest you'll usually find the sony product at some shadier online sites is 279 before tax and shipping. 20 GB ipod is free shipping and free engraving direct from apple.if you're going to get a non-apple I'd reccomend the 1 gb muvo tx fm in the shuffle range or the iriver h10 4, 6, or 20 gb versions in the ipod mini and ipod photo ranges. all these devices have built in voice recorders and fm tuners. the irivers have color screens and photo displaying capabilities. the muvo's can reorient their screens just like the sony device, but that's really a non-feature.[Edited on August 18, 2005 at 4:11 PM.
