i downloaded the codec pack for 9 and it still didnt work, then i upgraded to 10.. this is a friends computer...

still having no luck..any ideas..this is probably a common problem right?

try downloading the xvid and divx codec pacs, if you're looking on the p2p network they're actually a nifty little codec bundle floating around that has solved all of my encoder problems to date. Or just spring for a copy of Cyberlinkd Power DVD, undoubtedly the most powerful dvd playing program on the market.
