i just got a new Seagate 160Gig HD for my Dell to use as a Slave. It is an Ultra ATA 100. I had a ATA 133 Maxtor in there before. i have a Ultra ATA Storage Controller in my computer (so says my Device Manager.) i'm sure the jumper settings are correct. now, when i start my computer it doesn't get past the Dell boot page. so i go to BIOS Setup and tell it i have a new HD. OK. then i let it do its thing. but then BEEP BEEP. no, it's not the roadrunner. it's my computer telling me it won't start. any ideas? is it the Ultra ATA stuff? do i need a different cable or something? i have searched on Google but i'm not finding anything helpful.

your motherboards manual will tell you what the different sets of beeps mean. since its a dell you may want to look it up on their site since im not sure if you get a mobo manual from them.

well with those beeps comes a message. it says "press F1 to retry boot or F2 for setup." isn't ultra ATA backwards compatible with regular ATA stuff?

just in case anyone has the same problem... all i needed was an Ultra ATA cable. the end.
