I was a Junior at Delaware for Floyd in 1999... When was Fran? I know Floyd hit down here bad, but it was in Delaware too. We played football during it....sucked to go into the wind. I remember walking straight into the shower when we were done, clothes and all[Edited on July 18, 2005 at 4:46 PM. Reason : Jr]
7/18/2005 4:44:53 PM
Was there for Fran, Floyd, Dennis (Hurricane bowl) half a dozen other little storms. I was in Mississippi for Ivan last year. Woke up before the storm passed and didn't know it. Went looking for coffee cause my power was out and the cops were like, go home.
7/18/2005 4:47:03 PM
man, I had already graduated by the time fran came around.
7/18/2005 4:48:25 PM
Sophomore when Floyd hit and took out most of ECU...They told us all this shit we had to do (move the beds away from the windows, get all valuables off the floor) it was intense
7/18/2005 4:49:04 PM
Was Floyd the one when they moved the ECU/Miami game to Carter Finley, and ECU tore the goalposts down?
7/18/2005 4:51:12 PM
YES
7/18/2005 4:53:01 PM
Screw that how about the SNOW STORM of 99-01. That was some wild shit.
7/18/2005 5:00:12 PM
Fran was the only hurricane we evacuated for out of that long span of storms. Of course, it went along the same path as the others and hit further north than us anyway.Guess where we evacuated to: my aunt's house in Cary. It was worse there than in Shallotte.
7/18/2005 5:03:38 PM
I was at Broughton High School here in Raleigh when Fran hit, so I remember it. I was at NCSU for Floyd (I was a sophomore.)I was also here for that snowstorm.... that kicked ass... of course, a snow plow buried my car in snow (it was parked on the side of Morril at the time.)
7/18/2005 5:11:40 PM
Man Subway made a KILLING during the snow storm. They were the only ones open for like a week. Well them and Papa Johns/
7/18/2005 5:53:00 PM
i'd just bought a jeep right before that big snowstorm. i remember hitching an old surfboard up behind it and pulling people up and down Varsity Drive at 35-40 mph...hahahahathen we tied a big tarp behind it and i pulled several people at once around, doing donuts and stuff.
7/18/2005 6:22:19 PM
i was in middle school during fran. we were out for almost 2 weeks straight.i was in high school during the blizzard. we were out for 2 weeks then too.The snowstorm was in jan 2000.
7/18/2005 6:33:16 PM
that snowstorm was on my birthday! January 24th
7/18/2005 6:34:32 PM
I remember the 2000 snow storm. It was during the Rams/Titans Superbowl... we were out for a week too at UD, and it totally messed up Winter Session (we had a 5 week winter J-term). My car was plowed into its spot as well.
7/18/2005 6:41:14 PM
Weren't classes cancelled for a few days for Floyd also?I can't remember if that was my freshman or sophomore year.
7/18/2005 8:22:16 PM
no they weren't.i remember we were all anticipating they would be canceled, but they never were if I remember correctly.
7/18/2005 8:31:00 PM

7/18/2005 8:45:40 PM
HURRICANE fran killed my car, parked on centenial at the time. i'll never forget it.
7/18/2005 8:48:41 PM
I was a sophomore during Fran. I remember striking out the next day in search of some lunch with my friend who had a car. We made it down Glenwood to the Golden Corral, one of the few places open. I didn't realize how bad it was until we drove past Crabtree. [Edited on July 18, 2005 at 9:02 PM. Reason : .]

7/18/2005 9:36:54 PM
I was a freshman living in metcalf when fran came.I smoked a bong for the first time that night over at UT and ran back to metcalf in the middle of the storm ... there were branches flying everywhere ... it was the beginning of an era of stupid behavior!
7/18/2005 10:27:56 PM
i was a freshman in high schooli guess im not that old afterall
7/18/2005 11:20:21 PM
was fran the one that went through while playing USC in football? i can't remember which one it was.. but my very first state football game the remnants of a hurricane were passing through. got soaked, but it was fun being there
7/18/2005 11:27:01 PM
no. fran closed wake county schools for 2 weeks. I doubt they had a game during that. I know what you're talking about, but i cannot remember the name of the hurricane.
7/18/2005 11:28:53 PM
that hurricane might have been Dennis.......the one that hit just before floyd
7/18/2005 11:40:33 PM
I was living in Asheville at the time and we got all the remnants, it was horrible. I to came visit my Dad in Raleigh not long after and I was shocked- I think that was when Grapehead's car got smashed in two by a tree.
7/18/2005 11:58:49 PM
It was one year before I started @ NCSU, but I remember hearing how bad University Towers smelled because all the mini fridges started thawing out. It was worse due to how none of their windows in the building can open.
7/19/2005 8:07:54 AM
Yeah, the Hurricane bowl against South Carolina was Dennis. I turned 21 that weekend, so that was pretty damn cool.
7/19/2005 5:51:26 PM
hahah, god that was a miserable game. especially the ride home in the back of the truck.god bless that rubber chicken though.
7/19/2005 6:48:52 PM
I was a junior in Syme when Floyd came through. I just remember that lots of people went out to the court fo carolinas and slid down the hill during the hurricane so the next morning when i went to get a shower, the showers were caked with mud. It was also kinda funny how everybody lost power except NC State. Most people were in the dark when Floyd came through. We were sitting back playing Tekkan 3 and surfing the internet.
7/24/2005 12:31:58 PM
Fran was some crazy shit. I was a sophomore. Campus didn't lose power- we had it easy. They had people living in the gym for 2-3 weeks afterwards.Hillsborough Street had power and was one of the very few places in Raleigh that did. All the restaurants were open and had insane waits. I remember eating at Golden Dragon with a 2+ hour wait. Some enterprising/price gouging students were standing in line for pizzas at Papa Johns. They were selling a single pizza for $50 and getting it. The Free Expression Tunnel had trees down at every entrance....and people trying to crawl through them to get to offices/labs. The Doak Field entrance sign washed up in the Sullivan lobby. Some definite crazy shit.
7/24/2005 8:49:13 PM
bodenschlogrwho are you, i lived in syme for 4 years. from 97 to 00. 2nd floor.and that was fucking crazy going out to the court of carolinas during the storm.[Edited on July 24, 2005 at 9:16 PM. Reason : damn red x]
7/24/2005 9:14:37 PM
I'm Greg. I lived in syme 99-01. first year on the 1st floor and then on the second floor. Flash was my room mate on the second floor and i was next to Mike , BD, and Joey. I think I bought your ratty ol couch for 20 bucks when you moved out.
7/25/2005 9:57:14 PM
