It has come to my attention that there are a lot more people looking thru photo galleries than I originally thought. Call it naive, but I had no idea I was the masturbatory pleasure of some lonely TWWer(s). YES, APPARENTLY SOME GUYS THINK IT MIGHT FLATTER A GIRL IF HE TELLS HER THAT HE MASTURBATES TO HER PICTURE. This is fucking disgusting. I should be able to put up readily accessable pictures for my friends and I to share without having to worry about crap like that. I suggest a "private" option where only certain users may look at one's gallery. While adding pictures to your gallery, you have the option to make the picture public or private, as to where private pictures can only be seen by users on a list(?) or by a special link.

Most of the pictures I put on here are not intended for most TWW users. It's just a convienent place to store pictures that I wish to show my friends/family. I've thought about removing all my pictures and using someplace else to store them, like a ncsu page or something the like (do all students get web space and how does one go about that?), but as I said earlier, TWW is the most convienent.

everyone has a www folder under their names on unity computers. you can put you pics in there, put them all on one page and then give that url out to friends.

seriously though, storing it on your webspace wouldn't be that hard Linda... Its not as easy as TWW makes it, but you could set up a fairly simple webpage for it without too much difficulty... Don't count yourself out on it...

It requires a username and password to view pictures, so you can give it to your friends, etc. I don't know how much space you get, but a friend of mine uses it and he has hundreds of big photos (big meaning 1024x768 or larger).

It might be possible if you only want to share your pics with other students to create a directory under you file space and share that with only those users

for instance, in your home directory:

fs sa . system:anyuser l

mkdir sharepics
cd sharepics
fs sa . <unity id of who to share with> rl

Then that person could access it by ftping to the filespace and going to your directory
from their home:
cd ..\..\<the first letter of your unity id>\<your unity id>\sharepics

I don't know for certain, but it might. I haven't had a chance to test it yet

begonias/whoever else cares: As long as you don't put a link to your photos page on on your index page in your www directory, you can just give your friends the URL, and no one who doesn't have it will be able to look it up. I'm pretty sure they did away with the defaul index.html that listed the contents of the directory. I have a picture page that I send my friends to, and you won't find it from just going to my homepage. there's other stuff that I did for a project there. the picture page only took me about 10 minutes to do, and I'm not all that handy with HTML, I just know some basics, but hey, it works.

However, if anyone has access to telnet of ftp, they can still access it. Just because it isn't linked to the web page doesn't meant that the contents of the directory can't be uncovered. Since everything in www has l and r permissions for anyone, anyone who has an account could technically access all the files and read all the files under this directory if they felt like going through the trouble.

Or even yet, you can create a .htaccess file in the directory you want to put you pic page in and limit it to certain ip adresses only. Sadly, you can't do Authentication however

for instance, in sharepics, create a file called .htaccess (notice the dot in front)

Order deny,allow
deny from all
allow from <ip address 1> <ip adress 2> <etc>

this would only allow people with the specified ip address to visit your site. You can limit it to ncsu
computers by using ncsu.edu or to the dorms by using rh.ncsu.edu as well. This way only people who use an on campus computer will be able to see that section.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but it seems like begonias woul rather have Joe and Jake take the time to make and integrate the code into the system to hide your photos rather than hide them in your unity account herself. I mean, they've done some great websites, but they shouldn't have to cater to everyone's problems when she could do it herself.

Okay, let's cut the shit. People put photos so they can look really cool. You want people to look at them. If people get carried away with it then simply block them. Better yet, don't list your IM, or even better don't put up ten million different webcam pics that are simply from different angles. If I was the only one with this problem, then I wouldn't of said anything - but I'm not the only one. Several other TWW girls get random IMs saying "I saw you on TWW..." or "I'm not trying to hit on you, but..." ans things the like. I have gotten all extremes. Yes, I could easily remove my IM name from my profile, but I don't want to exclude myself from a possible good conversation or new friend because of some hornballs who think they have a chance. However, with the help of some other TWWers, I am on my way to "fixing" my problem- for now.

There's an approximately five line javascript that you can put on a webpage where the user has to log in to be able to load the page.
