Okay so due to poisen ivy, I played with this ALL damn day. There are some freaking AWESOME things you can do with this.I'll post a ton of KML and ETA files (just download them and open the files with Google Earth opened, it will automatically put them into the places tab.

6/29/2005 1:07:05 PM
I had a subscription to Keyhole, and they sent an email saying that the subscription is extended 1-year for free "in honor of the google earth release". Still need to play around with it some more to discover some of the new/different features.[Edited on June 29, 2005 at 2:20 PM. Reason : .]

could someone host an installer or something until it comes back up?
6/29/2005 3:45:21 PM
I have the Google Earth Plus installer - I do not know if you can get a free trial account through that somehow, but you all can try:Download Here (It's up now)Went ahead and took it down as it doesn't appear to work. [Edited on June 29, 2005 at 4:35 PM. Reason : ]

I am sure hosting it is breaking some sort of law.
6/29/2005 4:32:23 PM
Well, since it doesn't work, I'll just pull it.[Edited on June 29, 2005 at 4:35 PM. Reason : ]
6/29/2005 4:33:06 PM
that doesn't work anyways, it won't let me login...
6/29/2005 4:33:13 PM
Apparently they did away with the easy "go to these coordinates" search that used to be in Keyhole I just reinstalled Keyhole and sent a letter about it to the Google Earth people, fuck this.
6/29/2005 6:45:32 PM
This is quite interesting. What all can you actually do with this Google Earth program?
6/30/2005 10:49:52 AM
^Here's my buddy's apartment in Atlanta, along with every bar/restaraunt nearby. Just a small demo of how powerful this thing is. If they ever map the Triangle area, I'd gladly shell out cash for it.
6/30/2005 11:00:44 AM
wow that is pretty impressive. thanks for the pic. i may just get this.

So how long till we can use this thing to see some titties?Cuz that is what will drive the market.
6/30/2005 3:39:11 PM
awesome! and here i was just happy with google maps and their satellite photos.
6/30/2005 4:04:05 PM

someone should check out the "network links" feature. http://geobloggers.blogspot.com/2005/06/network-link-killer-app-for-google.htmlsnippet
7/1/2005 10:20:21 AM
if somebody did that with the relative position over the earth of all satellites, that'd be pretty cool.[Edited on July 1, 2005 at 10:30 AM. Reason : or the location of US military units]

7/1/2005 10:31:25 AM
not anyone can add data to the "master" Google Maps (i think he meant Earth). What he's saying is that on your own copy of Google Earth, you can install a network link which feeds your own GE dynamic data. If you install a bad feed, then that's your fault.
7/1/2005 10:36:45 AM
ah, gotcha. cool.PS - shouldnt this be in your perpetual google innovations thread?-ZiP!-[Edited on July 1, 2005 at 10:43 AM. Reason : ]

i swear to god that will be the end of mei spent a good 2 hours last night fucking with thati do wish more areas were high res
7/1/2005 1:26:29 PM
Can anyone host the install file? Still not available.
7/1/2005 2:27:33 PM
There are plenty of file mirrors around, but as far as I know you still can't get a new account to use it until they say so.
7/1/2005 2:28:34 PM
Oooh, the weather KML is HAWT.
7/1/2005 3:03:19 PM
It would be nice if the weather feed overlays were transparent PNGs and actually OVERLAYS.
7/3/2005 1:58:10 AM
You know you can manually adjust the transparency of overlays right? Also, if you wanted to, you could do that with a pretty simple php script, although I dont think google earth supports alpha channels yet.
7/3/2005 4:36:24 AM
you can download again - http://desktop.google.com/download/earth/index.htmledit - repost from the "google innovation thread" beause it involved GE too
7/4/2005 8:16:54 AM
they must have just taken it down, because it takes you to a page saying downloads are temporaily delayed
7/4/2005 10:07:24 AM
damn - they must be getting slammed whenver it goes back up.... it was up this morning before i went to work, and it was announced here http://blog.outer-court.com/archive/2005-07-04.html#n69 so maybe it go too much traffic from the announcement?
7/4/2005 10:20:34 AM
yeah i had a chance to download this so long ago too, but i slacked on it
7/4/2005 12:43:41 PM
ok, time to start adding "Google Earth Mash-ups" and such, just like we did with Maps1) Google Globe, kind of like the googlesiteseeting for Maps - http://www.googleglobe.com/With GE open, click on a location on the webpage and be taken their in GE, and add your own favorite places.2) An outstanding application using GE technology, that really could change how real-estate is bought/sold. Prudential real estate in Chicago has added all their listings to a KML file so you can map real estate on GE, including all the stats and description about each property. writeup - http://google.weblogsinc.com/entry/1234000127049375/network link page - http://www2.prupref.com/announce/google-earth.php
7/5/2005 1:41:24 PM
It's easy to find another download site.Has anyone made an NCSU placemark file?
7/5/2005 3:01:20 PM
And Prudential was smart to jump on this; this is really nice in searching for houses.
7/5/2005 3:10:04 PM
ummm ok this is fucking gay, does anyone have a link...i've tried a couple times now and i cant download it...are there other links, i'm trying limewire and aint shit coming up
7/5/2005 3:35:03 PM
i just downloaded the free version and its freakin cool as hell. does anyone know when the images were taken? is there a way to find out?
7/5/2005 5:39:40 PM
all different times, most of the rich colored pictures were either 2000 or 2002 i think.most of the super high res images are from 1997ish.but really there is a giant mishmash of different satellites, dates, and types of images.
7/5/2005 5:45:27 PM
^^^^ i agree. what's more though, is how incredibly easy it would be to create the KML file based on a good database of locations, like the prudential real estate site. I bet there is just some script-kiddie at the Prudential Chicago office who got ahold of Google Earth, had direct access to the real estate database, and gave it a shot - and it turned out outstanding. Of course the best way to create the KML file would be pulling the data directly from the database, but the KML could be created by a 3rd party script (although rather inefficiently) for other real estate sites, like http://realtor.com or, of course, craigslist.
7/5/2005 8:05:18 PM
Is there an easy way to make those kml files, or export your placemarks?
7/5/2005 9:14:52 PM
n/m, I read the directions. Working on building an NCSU file now.Set 'em up.
