I noticed tonight on the VMA's when the rock came out, they said he's starring in Doom the movie.

don't know how they can turn this into a good plot, but we'll have to see.

Where the fuck is that? Doom is supposed to take place on Mars or one of its moons (Phobos, I believe). At least that's what happens in the first Doom game.

Ok.

Demons from hell on mars could be made into a pretty entertaining flick.

This plot of Doom airs on Sci Fi every other day.

They don't have to turn it into a good plot. A 'Doom' movie by the very nature of the franchise should either be a popcorn action movie or an intense horror movie. It just needs to be entertaining.

"This movie" - the "Doom title" = shit
"This movie" + the "Doom title" = barely watchable

Just because it has the name "Doom" attached to it doesn't make it Doom. Doom - Mars - demons /= Doom.

Actually, I would love to see some elements from Doom 3, aka Dr. Betruger. That dude made a well-done creepy villain.

No they are gonna loosely associate it with Doom just to get more people to see it. And by loosely associate it, they are probably gonna have a chainsaw or a BFG 2000.

I think we know the idea behind this movie, "turn a video game into a movie and nerds will leave their computer screens and pay you $7.50, just like they did for lord of the rings"

^ except that LOTR is a book

but yeah

however, even critics that hadn't read the book liked the LOTR movies

this movie is bound to suck

I'd rather watch someone the game on a big theater screen than watch this crap

The only thing this film has going for it right now, and I mean the ONLY thing is that they are pushing for a hard 'R' rating, and are minimizing CGI for costumes with Geiger feel to them...

^I loved the little face it had at the bottom next to your health. He would get a nose bleed or something at 85% health but if you were at like 10% he would be all bruised and bloody. Then you get the plasma rifle and he gets that huge grin. Ah, classic FPS.

I don't remember the first Doom game much, but I did play it. I do remember Doom 2: Hell on Earth, though. But I was probably 8 or 9 at the time and everything fucking freaked me out. I played with god mode on almost all the time. Doom 3's really the only game I've played through that I didn't cheat at.

I think the screen play writer is already catching hell

Quote :
"
The screenplay I wrote DOES differ in a number of ways from the games. I want to be very honest and forthcoming in saying that, and I know that I won't make any friends amongst the fans of the game in doing so. But it should be mentioned that it was never the goal of anyone involved in this film, from myself and the producers to the studio to the guys at id, to make a direct film adaptation of the game(s). The thought process has always been to create an extension of the Doom universe that will give fans an interesting new take on the themes that they've come to enjoy in the game. Because let's be honest here: as far as a completely immersive and cinematic experience, we were never going to top Doom 3 anyway, and we all knew that. Instead, we have toyed with some elements of the game, and yes, I am pretty much solely responsible for that, since it was my pitch and my screenplay that got made. Let me assure you, though, that the themes and elements that you love about Doom are ALL represented strongly in the film...just with some new twists.

I've found it frustrating that I somehow became the goat for the perceived shortcomings of the film, because (and I say this with no humility whatsoever, because I'm not a humble person), that I am, without a doubt, the greatest ally the Doom fan has had during the entire process of the film being made. I am the only person involved creatively who has ever made any attempt to open discourse with the game's internet fanbase, and I am the only person involved who has continually kept the ideals of the game first and foremost in mind. I very truthfully believe that my unapologetic and hyper-violent script would have been a Doom fan's movie dream come true. However, since my involvement, the film has steadily moved away from the realm of fandom and more toward the realm of traditional Hollywood interests. It's not been ideal, in my opinion, but I did what I could when I could, and I stand by that work.

No film adaptation can ever match the expectations of the original fans, and the Doom movie will be no different. You as fans each have your own perfect version of the Doom film already shot in your head, and those versions aren't always what the guy next to you would want to see in the same movie (someone out there on doomworld.com sure loved the idea of Howie Long as Doomguy -- which is perfect aesthetically, but let's face it, totally absurd if you want this movie to come out in theatres). I myself have a perfect version of the Doom movie all played out in my head--I even wrote it down--and it's not getting made either. And I'm not always real happy about it, but I do understand that that is the nature of the Hollywood machine. The bottom line is there are literally hundreds upon hundreds of good people working their asses off on this movie right now, and you, just like me, have to trust them to do the best job they can. I don't enjoy watching a bunch of strangers bastardize my baby any more than you do, but really none of us can do anything about it at this point, so I hope that at least some of you will fret, with me, in the direction of optimism. We all have high expectations, and a lot of them won't be met, but the bottom line is the movie is going to be pretty cool.

Finally, to the fan that suggested I get an enema (ostensibly to clean out my head, I think): That was awesome.

Dave Callaham""

I'm looking at this as a sci-fi movie with the same title as a classic video game. It may still blow, but I'm going to unattach myself from any dissimilarities.

Anyways, the problem with the changes to the script is that they are pointless. Yes, you can make "creative" changes, but damn, make the changes make sense.

its gonna be difficult to wrap a plot around that one, ive never played any game from the doom series for its story line, in fact, the beauty of the doom product line is that it skips the bull shit and gets straight to the slaughtering.

"Although the movie has traded the Martian setting of the game for an unspecified planet, the photos show a setting not far off from the dark futuristic settings of DOOM 3. In a nice nod to the developers, one of the scientist characters has been named after id Software lead programmer John Carmack, as alluded to in one of the captions above.

Directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak (Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds), Doom technical crew includes visual effects supervisor Jon Farhat (The Nutty Professor, The Mask) and creature FX supervisor John Rosengrant (Terminator 3, The Lost World). The film began shooting in Prague in October 2004, and is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 21, 2005.

You have got to know that this movie is junk before you even see the trailer (FF, DoH, etc.).

In a nice nod to the developers, one of the scientist characters has been named after id Software lead programmer John Carmack, as alluded to in one of the captions above.

Not that I am even considering seeing this but wouldn't actually setting the movie on Mars and making it about killing hell demons have been a nicer nod.

WRITER: We are coming out with a Doom movie.
FANS: Cool, a movie about demons set on Mars.
WRITER: Well we nixed the whole demon thing. Oh, and the Mars thing too.
FANS: It is a movie based on the game Doom...isn't it?
WRITER: Oh, yes. Doom all the way.
FANS: WTF?!?!? How can it be Doom without Mars and demons.
WRITER: Ok, we'll name one of the scientists in the movie after the lead programmer of the Doom series.
FANS: Sweet!

im sure they just did it to be more........ .....realistic. mutants seem more likely to be the cause of problems than demons and require a bit more plot (though im sure this one will suck).
