can you get some real bands please? thanks
6/3/2005 3:47:52 PM
haha and what do you consider real bands? considering this schoolyear hes had plenty of national bands signed to big record labels (not saying i liked every band that played there. im just saying there were plenty of...your definition of "real" bands)
6/3/2005 3:54:05 PM
the e-knight rushes in to defend his castle ....hey, not all of us are into the hardcore or metal or whateverthefuck scene all you brewery nut lickers are into. i always assume that its stuff in genres i dont really follow, b/c ive never heared of any of the bands (be it local or national).and theres no point in making fun of the music im into, b/c i know my music isnt as cool as yours
6/3/2005 4:00:35 PM
um i wasnt referring to just hardcore metal stuff. i was referring to the venue as a whole including genres and bands i dont even like myself. and why would i make fun of the music you listen to when in fact i like a lot of the bands you post on here about...the only time we've ever had a disagreement on here on here is when youve made fun of ME because "my music isnt as cool as yours "besides the shows we've played the last several shows ive been to or wanted to go to have not been hardcore/metal/etc at all. IE copeland and lovedrug. in fact you may even like lovedrug who knows. hardcore and metal these days makes of a very small percentage of what i listen to[Edited on June 3, 2005 at 4:13 PM. I think it is funny when people assume a band plays metal because they have never heard of them. The Mile After - Total pop/rock with great harmonies and great hooks. Sold out The Brewery several times.Copeland - One of the biggest indie rock bands out there.Anberlin - Another great indie band. Along with Copeland, sold out The Brewery a month or so ago.Vast - An underground "Goth-type" band with a huge following. Played The Brewery this past year. The list goes on and on. There have been some really cool bands at The Brewery in the past year.Just what do you listen to, Luigi?
6/3/2005 4:29:03 PM
i agree the brewery should try to diversify its sound with more pop music.
6/3/2005 6:04:40 PM
Get Korn to play there again.
6/3/2005 6:15:55 PM

6/4/2005 1:15:28 AM
no, im with the guy who started this thread. The brewery booking sucks ass. Such a waste of space. Still, I notice alot of the time they still get high schoolers in there None of these bands are even constituted by any means, you'd never (for instance) see their album reviewed on metacritic, or even them mentioned on pitchfork. Its all just crappy nu-punk metal crap.Kings has had the same problem, but for an older crowd -- although I do see them book some decent stuff time to time.
6/4/2005 3:04:10 AM
wtf is metacritic, and why would i let them tell me whats good or nit
6/4/2005 3:14:03 AM
timswar -- When VAST played at The Brewery, we had been open for less than two weeks. Most people didn't even know we were open. I didn't say we had a huge crowd for them at The Brewery. I said VAST has a huge following. Either way, it was a good show.
6/4/2005 5:01:10 AM
the 2 "biggest" bands i've seen @ the brewery:virgos merlotjimmies chicken shack ( back before they got popular )

6/4/2005 12:54:29 PM
well then obviously you havent seen any of these bands...some of which have been on mtv and all over the big music magazines (im listing bands that are well known not ones i like, so there are plenty in this list i do not like):copeland (ive seen them headline shows selling out venues with well over 1000 ppl other places)lovedruganberlinglass casketthe agony scenesummers endmisery signalsand more..all of those bands are on major record labels and i think i count 5 of them that have either been on mtv or mtv2 within the past year. and i have seen all of them at the brewery since ive been here at school[Edited on June 4, 2005 at 1:05 PM. 6/4/2005 1:21:31 PM
to whoever made this thread...you realize that the brewery isnt like alltel pavillion where you can see avril lavigne or disco gayo where you can see pixies. its a small club for smaller bands. your favorite band nysync is gonna play here. sorry bro.
6/4/2005 11:33:26 PM
once again, the e-knights ride again....first off: i dont, and i havent, spent much time in raleigh during my lifetime. im moving to tampa soon and ive never been one for music "scenes". i know nothing about who the good local bands are. i know from school that apparenly the mile after is a popular local band, as are a number of these other groups. if you billed yourself as having the best local acts, then great. but then you go and act like these other bands are supposed to be these huge national acts. copeland? um, no. i already have clubs that carry the music i drop my money on, and i dont really see why i need to be convinced to check out this one place. What I do know from friends who frequent the brewery: it draws the same 50 regulars to every show theyve been to (mostly hardcore or emo), which is apparenly a draw for some. i guess its the big happy family thing. well, i addressed what was said earlier. not my fault if youre too dense to follow.
6/5/2005 1:25:23 AM
ok you don't care for the bands that play the brewery...don't go to the brewery

Hey look everybody! Another group of hipsters on their elitist high horses! If that comment gets under your skin, you merely affirm the obvious.Perhaps we could go get some coffee and discuss this issue further at the DIY record shop while we pass out flyers to our upcoming houseshows and talk about how we really got those mainstream kids on TWW. Man we showed them! Dude check out my new record I bought! No more of this hypothetical band bullshit, it's a real band dude! Really brah? YEA DOOD! Hey man, I heard Rilo Kiley was playing at the Cradle! Yea dude, Chapel Hill is soooo much cooler than Raleigh. I just feel like my type of people are there, ya know man? Yea dude totally. Hey man remember that one time when Jack and I got crazy at the brewery and got all coked out. yea man, that was nuts. Too bad the old owners racked up all that debt and Tom saved The Brewery from becoming a parking lot. I mean what a jerk, helping to contribute to saving raleighs music scene and all. Thats like totally not DIY man. I know brah. Hey buddy wanna go watch A Clockwork Orange? Nah I'm ok, I have some backed up threads I have to stay on top of on.
6/5/2005 4:37:32 AM
^lol...way to go billy
6/5/2005 4:56:52 AM
Luigi - You can think what you want. But, we just had two back-to-back sold out shows at The Brewery. In those doors over the last two nights were quite a few more people than the "same 50 regulars" that you claim attend The Brewery. I have never claimed to have the best local acts, and I have never claimed to have huge national acts. But, I do claim to have some of the best locals and I do claim to have really cool nationals at The Brewery from time to time. If you disagree, I don't really care. I assume you are not among the several hundred people each week who attend The Brewery, and that is fine with me.E-knights? You know, it is always the same people who have negative things to say on here. I don't anyone to defend me, by any means, but it's cool to know that someone will speak up with something positive to say.
6/5/2005 5:36:19 AM
you silly guys you. i wasnt talking about music genre-wise, i was talking about how seemingly every night is local amateur night at the Brewery. it seems like they lost their prestige or something. thats for the enlightment, guitarguy, youre right. none of the bands i played with there were nsync.
6/5/2005 11:00:08 AM
and your band is so established?
6/5/2005 12:09:56 PM
what the fuck do you morons expect from a place that small? jesus christ, it's not like mainstream bands would even bother playing there...hey maybe you guys should get coldplay to play there, that would work really well...or better yet, U2, I'm sure they would go for having 500 people at a show instead of their normal 20,000.
6/5/2005 12:24:37 PM

6/5/2005 12:26:30 PM
^^^^^^^ Now, I know I'm affirming the obvious by responding, but if you're going to write a satire, you need a working knowledge of the people you're ripping into. First off, how can a record store be DIY? That doesn't even make sense. Second, coffee sucks and the fucks who hang out in coffee shops are too cool to listen to music. The Cradle is in Carrboro, not Chapel Hill. Also, the last time I checked, indie fags weren't surfers or frat boys, so they don't constantly say "dude" or "brah." Finally, a real 1337 indie fag would watch 2001, not A Clockwork Orange, because as good as it is, it's really fucking hard to watch it and not fall asleep.Your post could've been good. It really could have. But just like the kid in my 488 class who tried to write a story about being in a band when he hadn't been in one, the slight inaccuracies in our details kill the whole thing.P.S. ^^^ Best comeback ever.P.P.S. ^^ You're out of your depth, methinks.[Edited on June 5, 2005 at 1:10 PM. my band is nonexistant. i couldnt stomach this 'scene' crap much longer. i cant even go to these kinda shows anymore because all i see is pretentious little idiots. maybe its a personal problem, but i'm glad i figured out. i'm happier now.as for this thread, i just saw one too many TWW band at the Brewery posts and thought id take a stab at it. i'm glad they have a place to play, its a ton of fun, but enough is enough. to me at least.

you guys are worse than the girls i went to high school with. did someone sleep with your boyfriend this weekend or what? ugh... anyway, i've always had fun when i went to the brewery! keep up the great work brewery guy!

Also, without fueling the fire any further, for those of you who are currently unhappy with the acts that play The Brewery, could you offer some suggestions of who you would like to see there. I am talking within reasonable means as well. If you respond by saying the acts probably wouldn't play that venue or you'd rather see them somewhere else then I suppose I am talking to a lost cause. Just trying to get some constructive criticisms going rather than more bashings. Also please be specific in the acts you would like to see, not something vauge like "a band that would play the old brewery." The Brewery is simply The Brewery and it is here to stay.
6/5/2005 5:20:02 PM
here's one for starters- i'm pretty sure the last band the old brewery had booked was broken social scene. if they could get BSS or a band of that calibur, my distaste towards the new brewery might start to go away.[Edited on June 5, 2005 at 5:31 PM. Reason : not as harsh]

The following is a list of national acts that have played the area (including the area a few blocks from the Brewery) recently or will in the coming weeks. In general, aside from the Cradle, these rooms are the same size as the Brewery.Ted Leo (Cradle, Kings)Jonathan Richman (506, Kings)Enon (Kings, Cradle, GO!)Brendan Benson (Cradle, GO!)The Frogs (506)Trachtenberg Family Slideshow Players (506)Melt Banana (Kings)I'd like to see the better local bands play the Brewery at least once in a while (I know some of these are successful enough not to be around NC much any more):The Cherry ValenceThe RosebudsValient Thorrdes_arkThe KickassMy Dear EllaSimply put, I've been to the Brewery twice since it reopened, and both shows featured bands containing my friends. On the other hand, I've been to practically every other notable small/mid-size venue in the Triangle (Cradle, 506, Kings, Bickett, Nightlight, Rodeo, Martin Street, etc.) over the past year to see shows. Why can't the Brewery diversify a bit?
6/5/2005 6:13:03 PM
exactly. it seems that 75% of the bands that play at the new brewery are carbon copies of each other. i too call for some diversification of the new brewery.
6/5/2005 6:14:40 PM
I am not being sarcastic, but seriously thanks for the input. Having booked shows before and currently it is incredibly difficult to be well versed in all musical genres and know what will do good in the area. Keep the suggestions coming and perhaps in the future these bands can be featured at The Brewery.I know The Kickass has played The Brewery before, and you should pick up the Series DVD that has a live video of one of their performances. For instrumental metal they are incredibly tight and good.hope to see you at some upcoming shows.
