yeah, the navbar was cluttered and since the mail is only applicable when users are logged in, i figured put it exclusively up there.

now it is blue when you have mail, red when you don't... maybe it should be green? like green for go? i tried yellow first but yellow doesn't have much contrast to the white background unless it is dark yellow which looks nasty!
