PBS, that shit was silly[Edited on May 8, 2005 at 12:31 PM. Reason : nerd movies getting too much play]
5/8/2005 12:31:01 PM
will the movie be as boring and preachy as the books?
5/8/2005 12:45:15 PM
I haven't read the books since I was really young, but I remember loving them, although at that age I didn't notice any of the Christian allegories. That trailer actually looked a lot more promising than I had expected.
5/8/2005 12:47:17 PM
the narnia books actually werent preachy. his other works for sure are but they arent. the Christian themes are not in the forefront which is what i would consider preachy. they are just symbolic[Edited on May 8, 2005 at 12:48 PM. Reason : ]
5/8/2005 12:47:49 PM
I wouldn't call the Chronicles of Narnia allegorical. I don't think they were intended to be. I think the symbolism was a little more obvious than with, say, the Lord of the Rings (obviously, since Tolkien expressly stated he despised allegory, and that his books were only symbolic). But we're not talking about the Pilgrim's Progress either. Especially since it was intended for a younger audience. Lewis did not write this to the same target audience as he did Mere Christianity or a Grief Observed.[Edited on May 8, 2005 at 1:12 PM. Reason : ]

ok i get giddy watching the teaser.
5/8/2005 1:25:24 PM
I can't fucking wait
5/8/2005 1:34:08 PM
that looks like its gonna be way too full of crappy cgi to enjoy.
5/8/2005 2:32:36 PM
I'll definitely see it on opening day, I loved the books as a kidso do they plan on making a different movie for each book in the series, I want to say there was six or seven?? They seem to be comparing it to Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, that's why I ask. If so, I can see it getting old pretty quick and them not even finishing the series. Nevertheless, TLWW should be pretty good.
5/8/2005 2:43:24 PM
the trailer looks good except for a bit too much cartoonish cgi. But the kids didn't annoy me right off the bat, which is promising. It certainly has the potential to be good. But the website seems a little odd. Almost like they don't have anything good to say about Narnia so they instead try to tear down LotR (Tolkein was so damn stupid he only wrote 3 books for LotR .. Lewis is so awesome he wrote 7 books, therefore Narnia has to be better).
5/8/2005 2:47:23 PM
That's not like the official website of the film, though. That's just some aol bullshit moviephone crappola.
5/8/2005 2:50:11 PM
yea its not the official site. if the official site attacked Tolkien that would be ridiculously gay considering how Tolkien and Lewis were basically best friends and all. i love both. this trailer wont play for me tho
5/8/2005 3:51:33 PM
7 books. each book was basically 20 pages. i think 5 of the books = one of the lotr books.

They showed the preview before Star Wars and all the nerds were cheering
5/26/2005 10:16:32 AM
i cheered on the inside
5/26/2005 10:17:08 AM
No matter how shitty the CGI is, it will trump a guy dressed up in a lion costume from PBS.
5/26/2005 5:08:36 PM
^ it wasn't even a guy, they couldn't afford that much realism
5/26/2005 5:17:34 PM
Okay, giant animatronic stuffed animal then. The mouth moved, I think. Either way, it wasn't that believable.
5/26/2005 10:09:34 PM
that looked cool, nostalgic mostly, i aint read that book in a looooooooooooong time
5/26/2005 10:49:41 PM
I'm going to read some of them again this summer. I've read them all before. Anyone else not that enamored with this particular book? It was decent, but I think it was really my least favorite of the series. They can do most of these movies spaced out, because the characters change. The main problem would be the final movie where basically everyone from all the books comes back for one last adventure.
5/26/2005 10:59:30 PM
I'm excited about it. I read those books constantly as a kid. Should probably reread them at the beach or something. It's been a while.
5/27/2005 12:35:38 AM
yea, i can't wait for the movie, it'll be nice to see how well it sticks to the novel, luckily the narnia books aren't as long as harry potter of LOTR so they shouldn't have the problem of cutting out alot of stuff for time.

5/27/2005 11:01:13 AM
this is one of the only ones in the series I actually DID read, so I'm excited

eff it i cant get this trailer to play on my work computer, my laptop, or my home computer. and ive tried IE and mozilla on all 3 computers hah
5/27/2005 11:20:50 AM
Looks like an interesting enough movie, I may go see it.I don't remember which books I read, but I definitely read LWW. All I remember is that I thought Edmund was a dick and should've been left to die. Instead they decided to redeem his ass.
5/27/2005 11:22:09 AM
^^^ seriously. i mean, i dont think it is preachy, but it s definitely allegorical, the damn lion sacrifices himself and then rises again
5/27/2005 11:27:39 AM
^ YOU FORGOT TO PUT [SPOILER] TAGS!!!
5/27/2005 11:31:43 AM

5/27/2005 11:37:59 AM

6/17/2005 11:18:52 PM
^^^ yea i enjoyed the old version. we have them all (they only made 4 books) on vhs. i remember being in 4th grade and having a crush on edmund... he was purty :-)
6/18/2005 3:03:30 PM
Does this really need spoiler tags? I would have thought everyone read this for school when young.
6/18/2005 3:56:07 PM
I need to read the books again. I don't remember much

I loved the books, and I can't wait to see the movie.I'm pretty sure that they've started filming "Prince Caspian", but I can't remember where I read that. I hope they get most of the books made into movies before the kids get too old.
9/19/2005 11:12:53 PM
well i mean they are older in some arent they?
9/19/2005 11:19:22 PM
this looks so much better than those shitty lotr/harry potter movies
9/19/2005 11:40:21 PM
The Magician's Nephew and the Horse and His Boy have completely different character sets. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, and The Voyage of The Dawn Treader have several characters in common. The kids from England only age a few years throughout the books, but Narnia ages thousands of years.Compare the English Years and Narnian Years here:http://books.narnia.com/chronicles/books/index.htmlAlso gives a very short plot summary for each book that includes the main characters, so that you can see any difficulties involved with filming. Read up, n00bs!^I doubt it will top LOTR in terms of cinematography, but they are good stories. The CGI looks a little dubious at this point.[Edited on September 19, 2005 at 11:42 PM. Reason : ]

my question is:why do they all have brittish accents?
9/19/2005 11:46:24 PM
i think it works well.for 1) its fairly accepted that middle earth is loosely based on europe and the shire specifically loosely bsaed on wales/ireland/uk..mainly the united kingdom. 2) the author was british. im sure in his head the dialogue was all in a british accent [Edited on September 19, 2005 at 11:50 PM.
