time to start hunting for this years cars and begin preparing them. starting early we'll be able to pick the perfect cars, and do alot more to them than we could last year. we'll be running the wagon from last year again, but will be needing another big car. we're also looking to expand to the 4 cylinder class, and would be interested in 2 smaller cars. cheaper the better, and runners are a plus. of course any body damage, broken glass, etc. is fine. i'll be bumping this to the top until late september. some of you people should enter too, some of the most fun on 4 wheels to be had. http://thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=256494

I've got my eyes peeled for junkers. Need more wagons. Don't forget we gotta swap the trannies from last years cars, and need to make some modifications to the trailer. lolllllllllll

i have a 350 that runs, needs to be rebuilt, but we could put it in there.

Ivan- I've got a car I think would be competitive in the 4cyl class. Do you have a link to the rules? I googled, but no luck.
2/27/2005 6:47:11 PM
we scored a volvo 740 yesterday thanks to JeepinGerb still could use one more for the 4 cyl. class, and we definitely need one big car. i'm not sure if the rules are posted anywhere... i'll check. what exactly are you looking for? i know most of them off the top of my head. most of it's just car prep regulations, only a handful of rules apply for the actual events. that's alot of what makes it so fun and affordable, it's not regulationed to death like so many other motorsports.
2/27/2005 7:09:45 PM
Trying to figure out what I can do to the car. I'm guessing stuff inside the tires is prohibited, etc. I was given an '87 Saab 900 with a knock. Damn thing is a tank, feels like it weighs a ton.
2/27/2005 9:19:35 PM
you can't add anything to the cars except wire to the doors/hood/trunk, concrete in drivers door, and a brace behind the driver seat. you are allowed to run tubes in the tires, but that's it technically. many people run black construction adhesive/sealant on beads, there's no way for the officials to really tell. there's a whole host of other little tricks, etc. you can get away with... nothing i really want to share though just be creative, there's a fair amount of room to work within the rules. as for car prep, you have to relocate the battery and gas tank inside the vehicle. tank must have a shield. it's best to use a marine style plastic tank. all glass, trim, emblems, headlights, tail lights, etc. etc. must be removed. exhaust must be cut off somewhere past the firewall. that's about all that's required, anything else you want to do like strip the interior, etc. is up to you.
2/27/2005 9:48:27 PM
here's an older copy of the rules. only difference i see is that there has been a dedicated 4cyl. class/championship for the past few years, no worrys of having to compete against full size cars.
2/27/2005 9:58:23 PM
sweet, thanks.

Yup, there's one today. We don't have any cars ready, but we'll be there anyway.
8/13/2005 11:56:06 AM
how thorough is the tech inspection
8/15/2005 5:24:26 PM
Depends on what you're planning on doing. lolll They look them over fairly well, but not with a microscope. I saw some bumper mounts last year that looked to be real, not welded, etc...but homey was a solid hitter even with what appeared to be shocks on the bumper. That shit was solid. And he used some crazy big body mount bolts and concealed them best he could. They never caught either.
8/15/2005 5:51:20 PM
yeah, not much to tech. especially if you wait till the last minute to call them over and check it before a heat like we did. i plan on bending/breaking alot of the rules this year

I'm glad there is a thread about this, as I have a question for those who have driven derbies in the past...Since my car was recently totaled based solely on body damage (1989 volvo 240 DL), I had been thinking about the demolition derby at the fair this year for fun. The thing is that the power steering went out recently as well and I don't know how important it would be to have that. I don't have a lot of upper body strength, being a girl and all, and I think that quick turns to get out of harms way are a must for the demotion derby. Also, once the car is crunched, what do you do with it? Sell it to a junk yard?Any suggestions would be appreciated
8/15/2005 7:10:37 PM
it's doable without power steering, but it's not fun and you won't be able to maneuver as well. also expect to spend ~50-75 bucks and a full day (at least) of your time preparing your car. you'll also need to have a truck/trailer to bring the car into and away from the derby. you'll also want to have a variety of tools and equipment to patch the car back together and work on it between heats. afterwards, if the car is still driveable or fixable keep it and run it next year. otherwise, just take it to a scrap metal place and get a few bucks.
8/15/2005 7:31:10 PM
whats the prize?
8/15/2005 7:34:02 PM
for the heats, it like 100 bucks. for the championship, i think maybe 1000 or so? maybe more.
8/15/2005 7:50:07 PM
The prize...is redneck pride. lollll Girl, we'll get that damn Volvo ready for you if you'll drive it.
8/16/2005 1:58:06 AM
my car will be protected by the impenetrable armor of righteosness beware!
