This idea is suggested a few times every year, and the addition of sex & dating forums on various PIC sites has only put fuel on the fire. We are not like those sites. We are different. We are better.

The culture of the Wolf Web has been largely determined by its userbase. The site initially started out with a handful of users who all knew each other or soon got to know each other pretty well, and for a while its only expansion was people introducing their friends to the site. This kept the numbers pretty small and the community tightly knit. That initial blend of personalities is what gave the Wolf Web its flavor to begin with, and it's still influencing the Wolf Web today.

One thing that the users of the site did not do very often was talk explicitly about sex. I don't know why, I don't care what anyone else thinks of it, it's just the way things were. Yes, you had Myrtle posting stupid-ass threads about "buttsex" all the time, but there was very little frank discussion about sex. As more and more users have come to the site, yes, we've attracted a large number of horndogs (and it's been like that for years), but they've had very little impact on the overall tone of the site.

Why do you think we haven't had a sex board as many times as it's been suggested? It's not that there are already other sites specifically devoted to discussion about sex; you could say the same about any of the topics talked about in the Garage, Tech Talk, Sports Talk, etc. It's because having a sex board would fundamentally change the Wolf Web experience, and probably for the worse. How many worthwhile posters have you seen posting about sex often enough to justify creating a board for it? And how many worthwhile posters do you think having a sex section would attract?

I know what many of you are going to say: If there's a demand in the community for a board, the administrators should create that board. That's not always true, though. If the demand is for something that would violate the spirit of the site, then the community should go elsewhere. On B-Boys, our forum users have been calling for message boards for punk and hardcore even though we're explicitly a hip-hop site. Our users will not get their punk and hardcore boards for that reason. They're welcome to go elsewhere, because if all they want to do is talk about punk and hardcore, they're not contributing anything worth our time. That's not to say that punk and hardcore can't be relevant to hip-hop—by that same token, sex is a large part of the college experience, but I contend that to the extent that Wolf Webbers are interested in worthwhile sexual discussion, the Wolf Web already accommodates that interest.

the notion that the wolf web doesn't change according to user interest is false.

Also, there have been a number of changes recently that go against the "culture" of the wolf web. More moderation, less freedom to post graphic and/or offensive content, etc.

With these new changes, it is in the best interest of the management to have a section devoted to sex, so that the nudie pictures that bother them so much will be there, and not in other forums.

like i said in my first post, the wolf web has changed drastically since the last time this was suggested.

now it is a problem for us to post nude pictures in chit chat (or the other boards)

The new section would be a good place for those nude pictures to be directed, making using TWW at work or school a lot "safer."

Also, you have YET to give me a reason why this section would be a bad idea.

I wonder how hard it would be to implement a function where you could make certain forums wholly invisible upon login? Probably not that difficult considering the Premium Palace is already in place. Users could be given control over which forums they see. I couldn't care less about the Garage, and this new forum would go on my block list too. Tailored content that is relatively simple to implement.

It really wouldn't be a bad idea. As was pointed out, that first scenario has happened or something similar, and really, if the relationship is destroyed over that, and you can't work things out with your gal, then it was a lousy relationship to begin with.

And similarly scenario 2 happens all the time anyway.

The problem as I see it, is that there are generaly a few fun threads in chit chat every once in a while, but short of the threads that have the nudity warning in title, opening a thread in chit chat is sort of a crap shoot as to whether you'll get something you would view in public. Having a clean chit chat would allow for the pointless but fun discussions that are clean, and having the redlight district would allow for sex content.

And if it was a bunch of moronic horn balls you're afraid of luring in, you could just make the section invisible to people who aren't logged in.
