i have big expectations for their next album.

I've never understood why it takes so long to make an album. "Good" musicians have notebooks full of work, and put in 8-hour days to get them recorded. Not knocking weezer, but I also find it ridiculous to release an album that doesn't completely fill a CD(ie 25 tracks or so).
1/15/2005 7:09:36 PM
ummmmmhmmmm, no?
1/15/2005 7:12:31 PM
^^ I think that's exactly the problem Weezer had. For The Green Album and Maladroit, they quickly thew together a bunch of songs, and put them on the album. Neither of those albums turned out very good and were received terrible critically, so they are taking the time to try and get it right this time.
1/15/2005 7:39:12 PM
i am excited to hear the new stuff
1/15/2005 7:51:51 PM
I have Beatles albums that are less than half an hour long. They've spent FAR more time in my CD player than countless longer albums. It doesn't matter at all how long an album is if it's done well.
1/15/2005 8:14:38 PM
i agree with the quality over length argumentbut every beatles album i own, which is 9-10 total are longer than 30 minutes...but i dont fuck with their earlier releases
1/15/2005 8:17:14 PM
Yea, I've heard quotes from Weezer saying they were embarrased by their follow-up albums(though I like some songs off both).I'm not suggesting they throw out a large amount of crap. To the contrary, serious musicians that have the money for studio time should have HOURS of material to choose from if they're not touring heavily. If they can't grab 25 good tracks at any time to put on an album something is wrong. They should have to think long and hard about which songs they cut, not struggle to come up with filler.
1/16/2005 1:05:59 AM
who puts 25 tracks on an album?its not just about shoving a bunch of shit onto a record, its about making a quality record front to back not seeing how long you can make itall that other crap will turn into b-sides and box set material
1/16/2005 1:11:47 AM
Supposedly, Rivers and Weezer performed over 200 unreleased songs the summer before the release of their green album.
1/16/2005 2:05:44 AM
yea actually the reason the green album and maladroit came out so close to each other (in comparison to other weezer albums) was because they wrote something like 60-80 songs for a new record and chose 10 similar style ones for the green album and another group for maladroit.also ppl dont usually put 25 songs on a CD because you want to write a ton of songs and pick your 10 or so best songs. that capture a certain sound and have a cohesion for a CD.
1/16/2005 2:08:10 AM
Or you don't, like the White Album or Sandinista!, and end up with something kinda cool, kinda good, and kinda shitty.
1/16/2005 4:44:52 AM
heh yea
1/16/2005 5:00:22 AM
im glad weezer is taking their time. rivers quit writing personal songs after pinkerton was slammed by everyone when it first came out, and supposedly the newer songs are suppose to be more like pinkerton.
1/16/2005 3:45:50 PM
they need matt sharp back. Him and rivers were the 90's paul and john
1/17/2005 3:11:05 PM
^ I agree, and I think most fans do as well, but it doesn't look like there's a chance of that ever happening. Even though they've made up now, Matt seems to want to continue to go off on his on with solo stuff. He needs to get the Rentals together again, though, because that was awesome.
1/17/2005 3:13:03 PM
yeah, the rentals were tight. I can remember a time where every single song that weezer put out was fucking great. the green album was great at first, but I got tired of it really quick. and maladroit, well, that album just blows. it'd be a good album for alot of other bands, but it just doesn't have the personality that the first two weezer albums had. I think Rivers was trying too hard. I believe he's still got it in him. and any time i can see weezer on tour is cool with me. I've seen em on the pinkerton tour, and the tour's for the last two albums. the pinkerton was tight because they pretty much played all of both albums.
1/17/2005 3:17:46 PM
^^ They do Rentals shows sometimes, but they're listed as Matt Sharp so you never really know. He had two of the later-period Rentals with him when he played Go a couple years back, and the set was 1/2 Rentals songs.
1/17/2005 6:03:10 PM
As someone who has been a diehard weezer fan for a decade now and knows every lyric forward and backward, I'll buy the album.I only pray it's an improvement from Green and Maladroit. Also the Rentals rock my socks.]
1/17/2005 7:03:44 PM
the rentals are good. the latest matt sharp solo material sucked.
1/17/2005 9:35:51 PM
fantastic
1/17/2005 9:45:07 PM

I prefer shorter albums. They keep my interest all the way though. There's a reason most longer albums don't have released songs on the back end.
1/18/2005 12:23:21 PM
For those of you wondering why this new album is taking so long to record, you may or may not know that Rivers went back to Harvard this past semester after recording with the band all summer but not quite finishing the job. The first post vaguely references this. Also I have read that Rivers is a song writing prodigy, at least in terms of volume. I remember hearing he had in the neighborhood of 300+ songs written but not recorded for whatever reason. A couple summers ago the band website released about 30 or so demos...pissed the label off big time. You web peoples probably already know all of this.
1/19/2005 11:39:46 AM
^^this is weezer we're talking about, so dont worry about it being long.all i remember hearing about any of this was that rivers had enough songs after harvard to make a few albums. i figured that he had enough for more than 2 made at that time, but who knows now.
1/19/2005 3:07:52 PM
only one album has been more than 10 songs for them so dont worry about it being long. their songs are mad short too. this will be interesting. i hvaent really enjoyed anything after pinkterton tho i own them all
1/19/2005 3:14:13 PM
no one should be concerned w/ the length or their next album, just quality. there use to be more active weezer/rivers sites w/ song lists, and there are hundreds of songs. theres also a ton of weezer/rivers material you can find. lots of demos w/ the band, some solo rivers work, and lots of remixes and re-workinds of the same songs, especially maladriot songs, when the band used fans to help produce the album. they need to release demos from the pinkerton-era, ever since that album they havent been the same.
1/19/2005 3:26:43 PM
http://www.weezernation.comThe audio section has a ton of demos and B-sides and stuff. Then the bootleg section has a ton of concert recordings.

LOVE EXPLOSION.Most underrated Weezer song ever, mostly 'cuz it's lyrically idiotic and buried on a mediocre album. Fucking great hook.
