If you're looking to get signups for premium and target those who use it the most and don't pay, I'd think a daily limit of posts in the message boards (or mail messages) would make sense (additions to other areas should enhance the site).

I mean if you say that nonpremium users can *only* post 40 messages a day or something, that would likely affect only the "free riders."

Also a cap of a certain number of messages total would make sense.

Kinda like the isp's with "free unlimited access" who actually had limts and would kick you off if you stayed on too long continuously.

the site was supposed to be a free site with voluntary premium memberships, that doesn't seem too voluntary...

i liked the idea of taking down flood control for premiums, we tend to be the biggest posters anyway (except ironmike and insaneman, cheapasses)

i am not a premium member right now because i am a poor ass college student who barely makes ends meet...maybe it's just me.

the concept of premium giving you benefits is cool, but punishing those who don't pay? i'd probably just leave altogether out of general principle.

we are using premium memberships to provided ADDED benefits to established memberships. we don't intend to ever take anything away from our non-paying members. this would be a major sellout and would probably decrease the quality of the site in the long run.

i think instead of taking "anything away from our non-paying members" it should be viewed as clarifying what the free use entails.

I believe the reason there are so many stupid threads/messages is because there is no "cost" associated with posting it. If there was a limit of 30 posts/day for us free folks, I'd think the quality of posts would go up.

this goes hand in hand with the quality of the site which has recently come up. granted if a bullshitter pays he can post all he wants and be the same as before.

but i agree, a limit to the number of posts per day would be a good way to get people who really use the site (and should pay) to pay while still allowing the other people who just read and all to stay the way they are. less bullshit will be posted and all in all i think the quality of the site would go up. It would still be voluntary to sign up, but by not signing up, you just don't get to post insane amounts of posts.

and if i were to hit a daily limit on posts then i would probably sign up, but i do not feel that it is worth signing up for the use i get right now.
