uhm. That would put up useless information on the screen and decrease the total area for the message to be displayed. Remember that not everyone uses 1024x768 or higher resolution. Believe me, at home, I've got to put up with 640x480 and it takes a lot of scrolling just to get to the bottom of a 35 message long thread. This, would make it longer, and in general, more annoying. The frontpage, where all this information can be viewed, is always one click away.

it would only diminish the width of the screen by approximately 10-15%...so it wont make much difference

when I have to scroll side to side, you don't know how irritated I get.... this would only amplify that problem.

some of that is already up here...but the majority of people with computers probably use a resolution bigger than 800x600

anybody using 640x480 is not worthy of using a computer, and that includes people that have to use that resolution because their video card retails for $5
