Ribs, you we're right, I was wrong.
6/25/2010 3:11:06 PM
seriously. screw that. I lost any bit of respect I had for Torres. I hope a Chilean player breaks his leg and takes him out of the tournament. No exaggeration.[Edited on June 25, 2010 at 3:11 PM. Reason : ]

um thats not even what im talking about. im saying when he just got sniped to the ground when he clipped feet with the defender, then layed on the ground like he was dying even after his team scored a goal[Edited on June 25, 2010 at 3:12 PM. that was awful. i know torres has been playing poorly, but there is no room for that.on a side note, i don't think torres plays well with villa, or at least he seems incapable of being second fiddle to villa, who is clearly the superior forward for spain.[Edited on June 25, 2010 at 3:14 PM. fernando "my only use for spain is pretending to die" torres
6/25/2010 3:14:12 PM
spain is the new italy for me in this tourney. i cant stand them now. with torres gaying it up and my hatred already for busquets. i hope they get smoked out of this tourney next round
6/25/2010 3:15:20 PM
FIFA needs to implement punishment or reviews for egregious diving, because the refs can be had, and it's not fair to put the entire onus on the ref on the field to discern between a dive and a legitimate foul. one game suspension for deception. i like watching spain play, but they are too good of a side to have to resort to that kind of pathetic horse shit[Edited on June 25, 2010 at 3:18 PM. 6/25/2010 3:15:59 PM
well, if they get second place they'll be going up out against Brazil
6/25/2010 3:16:00 PM
that is truly unfortunate $being a Spain apologist, I can see we will be butting heads over the next couple of weeks
6/25/2010 3:17:15 PM
theyve obviously got first place wrapped up. so theyre gonna be playing portugal. another rivalry matchup in the round of 16. cant go wrong with thatlol at this ref looking like Lucio...and im actually kind of upset that when players come up to talk the refs they seem to be smiling or laughing..this shit is too serious for them to be cuttin up and whatnot[Edited on June 25, 2010 at 3:20 PM. ^^^ unless Chile does something dramatic with 10 men, Spain is on a pretty solid road to 1st. A Honduras win or draw puts Spain through if Spain wins and unless Switzerland beats Honduras by a few goals then Spain goes through with a win as well I believe.^beat me to it. A Spain v Portugal matchup could be interesting. Dive count contest b/w diva C. Ronaldo and diva Torres? [Edited on June 25, 2010 at 3:20 PM. Reason : ]

I wonder where did FIFA find these refs for the world cup. This is getting ridiculous with all the flopping.
6/25/2010 3:26:27 PM
^to be fair, the ref was directly behind torres, so it probably looked like a legitimate foul/card. refs can be fooled just like anyone else, and even the announcers thought it was a card at first glancei don't think retroactive punishments for diving is too far out of the picture. it wasn't that long ago that refs were given the chance to card people for diving. retroactive punishments should be the next logical step to curbing this pathetic behavior.i'm pretty confident the likes of torres wouldn't take a dive if they knew they'd have to sit out a game in the knockout round.[Edited on June 25, 2010 at 3:29 PM. ^^^ Yes, you can find it on Wikipedia if you want
6/25/2010 3:28:27 PM
I hate to defend refereeing in this world cup but ease up when it comes to the Torres call... the referee does have to kind of follow the play too, ya know. Out of the corner of his eye, that looks like a foul.I've seen a number of yellows for diving in this World Cup so you know they're at least trying
6/25/2010 3:29:32 PM
torres = eduardo exposed??
6/25/2010 3:29:55 PM
you right
6/25/2010 3:30:57 PM
they need to start giving out red cards for diving to stop these fuckers.
6/25/2010 3:33:00 PM
i think when this cup is said and done, the quality of officiating will seem very consistent with past tournaments, really. it's always easy to be upset immediately after the fact, but once the dust settles, i think people will see this as par for the course. in my mind, there were only one or two games where the officiating really changed the outcome of the game. still, i would like to see diving be enforced retroactively to ensure fair play.
6/25/2010 3:34:00 PM
Soccer people explain this to meHow can you have 3 men officiate 22 in a huge field of playWhere you have 7 men officiate 22 in a smaller field of play in American Footballand 3 men officiate 10 in a much smaller field of play in basketballIt seems like they asking for a bunch of missed calls and over shitty officiating
6/25/2010 3:34:25 PM
Because 99% of the time the action occurs around the ball and with only two players involved.
6/25/2010 3:35:15 PM

I definitely understand we get the benefit of replay after replay at multiple angles and the refs cannot be expected to catch it all, even with the help of the linesman. I would certainly support retroactive punishments or adjustments for fouls and diving. For example, with Kaka, I probably would have waived his 1 game suspension that comes with the red if you could review that after the game. Or with a situation like Torres on that play; maybe you don't start with full suspensions, but he would at least gets a retroactive yellow for the dive. That yellow would, if he had another yellow already, mean he misses the next match. Also, anytime someone accumulates 2 retroactive yellows for diving they miss the next match regardless of them being consecutive or anything.
6/25/2010 3:36:23 PM
Frank Lampard just scored an incredible goal for Chile.hahah saw that on twitter
6/25/2010 3:38:12 PM
adios Torres. Rest up so you have enough energy to dive next game.
6/25/2010 3:45:21 PM
i wouldn't be surprised to see torres start on the bench next game. he's having a terrible cup
6/25/2010 3:50:36 PM
David Villa appears to be able to part the Chilean defenders at will. They're lucky he can't hold onto the ball.
6/25/2010 3:52:59 PM
6/25/2010 3:53:17 PM
the answer is that this is called the beautiful game cause its main concern is to play and not to have a bunch of stoppages for 1 of 1000 rules like there are in other sports
6/25/2010 3:54:51 PM
oh and
6/25/2010 3:57:14 PM

6/25/2010 3:57:33 PM
what a piece of shit. i know ronaldo got flack for diving, but i swear of all the games i watched i dont remember anything nearly as bad as that...
6/25/2010 3:58:52 PM
^^ wouldn't Switzerland need to score to make it interesting?
6/25/2010 3:59:44 PM
he exaggerated but anyone would've fell if that happened
6/25/2010 4:00:11 PM
of all the times i fell in soccer from being tripped, or tripping on my own feet, i never got sniped in the side of the head either while falling down
6/25/2010 4:00:47 PM
^^^maybe. but i was under the impression that all 4 teams have a theoretical shot at advancing. surely a goal would shake things up. i haven't looked at the table lately, even though God keeps posting them.looks like CONMEBOL is making a case for more qualifying teams here. how many UEFA teams are in the round of 16 so far?
