with this win, do we have any chance of sneaking into a WC seed? Do they go strictly by FIFA rankings or is there some subjectivity to it?

Strictly FIFA ranking. We're not going to be seeded for the WC.

Going into today, we had a mathematical longshot but a bunch of stuff happened today that makes it pretty much NO.

Basically the teams ahead of us are too far ahead of us.

E man is basically saying we'd rather have unc play in a bowl game because they're representing the ACC

Thats debatable but are you seriously saying

mexico: usa

as

UNC: NCSU

Why do you hate mexico? What did Mexico do to piss you off? Historically how do we rival mexico in anything besides football?

I could think of justification for them to hate us but see no reason why an american would be mad aabout mexican happiness.

But you're right, we don't rival them in anything besides football.

WE'RE TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL.

Also,

Obviously trolling but I have nothing better to do.

For somebody that's closely followed international soccer since the 1994 World Cup, I can honestly say that Mexican National Team does equal UNC for me. I hate Mexico because their fans are arrogant assholes. I hate Mexico because their player pool history is littered with petulant, dirty pieces of shit. If you've watched CONCACAF and every US-Mexico game for the last two decades you'd agree but you clearly haven't.

I don't care what else we "rival Mexico in" other than the sport because that's all that matters.

Ignoring the Mexico stuff from last night, pretty impressive fight back from some of our reserves in an environment where they had no incentive to win and every reason to just fold up when Panama took the lead late. Really speaks to the atmosphere Klinsmann has created and how every player genuinely has to fight to keep their place. Great finish by Johannsson too.

we pretty much kicked their asses every time and stole parts of their country. Now we ruin their society with our drug laws and drug addictions. A large percentage of our population is mexican. Many of our cities get more economic output from mexican games on in bars than team usa games. The least we could do is hope their team wins so they can be happy. You guys are acting like Mexico is the freaking CCCP.

There are going to be some amazing group matches given the current state of the FIFA rankings. Its very feasible that we could have two group of deaths if the cards fall properly.

We are still ranked 13. Only 38 points behind Brazil. Even if we beat Costa Rica, we would have missed the top 7.

We were passed by:

Switzerland
England
Chile

We passed:

Croatia
Portugal
Greece

We are now ranked higher than Christiano Ronaldo and co.

Switzerland is getting a seed.

Pray like hell we get that draw.

Netherlands and Italy did not get a seed (assuming uruguay qualifies). They will end up in groups of death. Pray like hell we don't end up with them somehow.

just got screwed out of a goal in Austria.

Watching alongside some of the WCQ games but we've had a number of chances in the first 20 minutes, mostly from distance. Pretty decent lineup, Johannsson in the AM role.

I like it. Gets some early prep in and could prove vital for team cohesion. Some important players are also able to attend and what I like the most is that the defense will have time together. Well done Klinsmann.
