The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued aTornado Watch for portions of central and eastern North Carolina eastern South Carolina southern Virginia coastal watersEffective this Tuesday morning and afternoon from 520 am until200 PM EDT.Tornadoes... hail to 0.5 inch in diameter... thunderstorm windgusts to 70 mph... and dangerous lightning are possible in theseareas. The Tornado Watch area is approximately along and 70 statutemiles east and west of a line from 35 miles west northwest ofSouth Hill Virginia to 15 miles south southwest of Myrtle BeachSouth Carolina. For a complete depiction of the watch see theassociated watch outline update (wous64 kwns wou5).Remember... a Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable fortornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watcharea. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout forthreatening weather conditions and listen for later statementsand possible warnings.Discussion... sctd showers and weak tstms have slowly been forming inthe past 90 minutes or so along N/S axis of enhanced cape extendingfrom near myr to Dan. The increase in convection may be associatedwith strengthening low lvl confluence downstream from low lvlremnant of T.D. Lee. Given strength of low lvl wind field withsizable low lvl shear... rich low lvl moisture... and weak linearforcing for ascent... setup may yield a few low-topped supercellswith a threat for tornadoes and/or small bows with dmgg wind.

I'm pretty sure they know what tornadoes are in Europe. I've had to gather my boys into the middle of the house, no easy feat. This really isn't a very good house for tornado drills.
