if they're anything like me they're not gonna be following the boards/radio much until next week's game

the boards over on IC are just... i don't know what to say.I can't believe the level of denial over there.Everyday there's a boycott N&O thread, sometimes multiple threads.People are now asking: "is it REALLY illegal for a coach to steer a player to an agent when he's on another team?" (the Dareus and Saunders situation)Charles Robinson is now a hack (during the USC situation he was a genius exposing the dirty deeds of Pete Carroll et al.) Joe Ovies called them out on that nicely last week. The few sane ones over there are really starting to see that the hammer is going to come down hard. The rest are affectionately known as: "The Band on the Titanic"

1. Butch Davis, UNCCareer: 22-202010: 2-2Fan Entitlement Index: 8 out of 10I continue to hear from people, especially those who pledge their loyalty to the Tarheels, that Davis will survive the agent-powered hurricane that currently rages around him. I'm not buying it. Even if he and his bosses are able to concoct a compelling case that former assistant head coach John Blake wasn't a de facto agent runner, the damage has been done in image-conscious Chapel Hill. Carolina has long seen itself as the ACC's flagship and has always been quick to point to its squeaky clean NCAA rap sheet across all sports. Becoming the poster child for corruption doesn't fit the UNC profile. As one university president recently said to me, "When the UNC chancellor showed up for the big August press conference and sat up on the stage with Davis and the (athletic director) Dick Baddour, that was not a show of support for his employees. That was a 'WTH have you guys done to my school?' moment.

I dont know if everyone else feels the same way as me, but I dont want Butch to keep his job. He's a good coach, and brings in quality recruits (even if it was using illegal means to do so). He definitely had the program moving in the right direction, talent-wise. I would love to see them get major sanctions from the NCAA and only be able to hire a crappy no-name coach, which will set them back 20 years as far as recruiting and play-calling goes
10/4/2010 12:23:21 PM
Butch is not a good coach, never has been, never will be. He has had one regular season record with more than 8 wins.I love how he's throwing Blake under the bus right now. This is going to get even uglier.
10/4/2010 12:35:58 PM
10/4/2010 12:40:39 PM
^^It is not like UNC is used to having 8 wins seasons. Despite our record vs him, he's a threat and I want him gone.[Edited on October 4, 2010 at 12:41 PM. Reason : f]
10/4/2010 12:41:24 PM
I said regular season, that doesn't include bowl wins. The only season in which Miami had more than 8 regular season wins was 2000, when Miami went 11-1.
10/4/2010 1:01:26 PM
I'd like to see him fired because once he is, it will wreck the current recruiting class and lead to transfers among the freshman and sophomores. Plus depending on who UNC is able to get to replace BMFD, the future recruiting should suffer as well. Ultimately anything that hurts UNC's recruiting will benefit our recruiting as we target many of the same players.
10/4/2010 1:55:04 PM
I imagine some of their current recruits started to look elsewhere once they realized that no more checks were coming.[Edited on October 4, 2010 at 1:58 PM. Reason : -]

the longer this plays out the better it is for usi hope they string butch along until the day before next season. eventually he needs to go since he's one of the better "coaches" (results wise) that they can get. but as long as he's there this black cloud is going to stay
10/4/2010 2:11:22 PM
10/4/2010 2:16:16 PM
They can string it along if they'd like, I just want it to start affecting recruiting. So hopefully they'll do it long enough before signing day so that a lot of their recruits switch and possibly consider us.
10/4/2010 2:16:31 PM
you gotta think that they will be hit with a limited scholly punishment right?
10/4/2010 2:41:02 PM
a scholarship reduction would really limit the waiver wire transactions
10/4/2010 2:44:40 PM
If they limit the number of scholarships then that will just mean less people to split up the cash pile. Take away enough scholarships and they might be able to get Peppers to come back for them.
10/4/2010 2:51:22 PM
damn man, its sounding more and more like Marvin Austin was a runner for Wichard. Charles Robinson just said on 99.9 that Dareus went out to that agent party and was reimbursed for all of his travel expenses by Austin.
10/4/2010 3:43:35 PM
Oh and lawyers confirmed that blake was getting payments and had an open protec credit card while he was at UNC. Money was just "loans and gifts" supposedly[Edited on October 4, 2010 at 3:54 PM. Reason : adfasdf]

off topic -how many programs have actually fired a coach mid season?by programs - ACC/SEC/BIGTEN/12/PAC10/ programs
10/4/2010 3:57:24 PM
UNC already did it once didn't they?
10/4/2010 3:58:51 PM
10/4/2010 3:59:40 PM
Little segment on espn just now about Blake/Bama player thing. Only questioned asked was: will Blake be banned from college ball? Then they mentioned how butch aplogized for trusting Blake. Nothing was asked about possible UNC sanctions or butch being in hot water.
10/4/2010 4:00:58 PM
UNC fired Bunting mid-season, they just allowed him to stay until their new and current sacrificial lamb was hired
10/4/2010 4:04:26 PM
larry coker was fired the day after the regular season and still got to coach the bowl game. maybe they're holding out for another shot at the tire bowl
10/4/2010 4:11:49 PM
do you mean fired and not allowed to finish the season? i can't recall that happening anywhere.i mean we fired amato before the season was over, but he still coached the team. on a side note, i saw him at the game. he is still one cool guy.
10/4/2010 8:27:10 PM
I'm not totally sure on his health, but we should bring him on in some fashion with the University. Not necessarily coaching, although I guess that could even be an option. Maybe be a fundraiser with the Wolfpack Club or recruiting coordinator or something along those lines.
10/4/2010 8:34:01 PM
btw I have a little BDS thing I'm in the works on. I wanna keep it out of the main thread since there are carolina lurkers about but send me a pm if you are interested in lending a hand
10/4/2010 8:49:50 PM
Sounds to me like you're going to end up in jail.
10/4/2010 8:59:09 PM
^^^ I too would support brining Chuck back on a non-coaching basis. We need him to start co-hosting the TOB show to lighten up the monotone Tony Haynes commentary...[Edited on October 4, 2010 at 9:01 PM. Reason : car][Edited on October 4, 2010 at 9:02 PM. Reason : rots]

alright we got this BDS all set up now, but we could use some manpower getting it rolling good. If you've got 5 minutes to kill just send a pm and the join the team. We got 4~5 who've given a hand already (thanks).

"Too often, when assistant coaches are involved in a web of serious violations, head coaches profess ignorance, saying that they were too busy to know what was occurring and that they trusted their assistants. Such a failure by head coaches to control their teams ... is a lack of institutional control."end of discussion. Fucking hang the fags.
10/4/2010 11:46:33 PM
Butch is like a hot piece of ass that UNC has never had before that has now cheated on them. All UNC wants to do is to pretend that they weren't cheated on, to move on with "their future together"When in reality they just look pathetic trying to hang on to this coach b/c in reality, UNC football is not getting anyone better....
10/5/2010 12:04:25 AM
^i don't think i've heard anyone describe the situation any better
10/5/2010 12:12:06 AM
^yeah i've been there before. The denial and deflecting blame. I guess at least someone didn't cheat on me with someone nicknamed BLACK SANTA

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news;_ylt=Avq3aR0eKR4JQyzkzENbpm85nYcB?slug=cr-blake100410Fresh Yahoo article up now. Gives dates for 6 wire transfers from Wichard to Blake during his tenure at UNC. Blake's lawyer tries to explain away a couple, but doesn't know the circumstances for a couple in 2007.Also, the reason given for Wichard's "gifts" is helping a friend in financial trouble that got stuck with a bad housing situation. The info dug up on the actual timeline and amounts seems a little off.
10/5/2010 1:22:48 AM
Wow even his lawyers aren't covering for him.Blake is goin to prison, y'all.BMFD won't go to prison, but he'll never work in football again.BDS baby

I dont understand why espn (or more specifically, sportscenter) doesnt talk about this more. they keep bringing up the Tennessee/Bruce Pearl violations, which dont seem to be anywhere near as bad as UNC's violations, but they dont talk about carolina's situation at all
