^^No problem. Is it an actual galaxy S or a variant? I'm not too familiar with galaxy S specific ROMs (I look at captivate ROMs every now and then since my brother has one and I'm more into looking into modding than him, so he mods his on my recommendations) but here's what I know of:-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=814091 that ROM has been ported to the captivate as well and is pretty well liked.-http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8139-gt-i9000-cm61-holy-crap-its-full-of-bugs-version-beta3/ I'm pretty sure that nothing cyanogenmod got for any galaxy s variant was too stable, and I'm 99% sure they wanted to get AOSP gingerbread before even attempting a stable release on at least the Captivate. This could be pretty buggy, but it might work for you. I'd say look around on XDA and pick one that looks stable and has the features you want. Darky's is my official "recommendation" if you wanna call it that.]

i wish att would put the atrix and laptop dock pricing and release date up. i will have both day one. im hoping for b1g1 to get my mom one as well.
1/10/2011 11:21:21 AM
well looks like Verizon hasn't forgotten Fascinate owners. It isn't Froyo but it should fix the laggy gps issueshttp://www.androidcentral.com/samsung-fascinate-mr-update-released
1/10/2011 8:33:13 PM
is there any word on lte data plan pricing for the phones? and if an unlimited 3g plan will be grandfathered into the 4g plan?
1/10/2011 9:51:38 PM
nope. They declined to comment when asked at CES last week.
1/10/2011 10:02:36 PM
^^don't think they'll release any info on that before the phones goes on sale/is announced.I don't think they'll make you switch to a limited plan, but then again I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I was wrong.]

http://www.appbrain.com/app/runtastic-pro-sports-assistant/com.runtastic.android.proDropped from ~$6 to free. Probably about the same as Edomondo or MyTracks, but whatever.

I have a rooted Fascinate, do I need to un-root it before applying the new update?
1/11/2011 9:16:44 AM
as long as you haven't removed any of the bloatware, you should be fine. No one has actually received it yet from what I've seen.
1/11/2011 9:33:43 AM
I have rooted my phone and removed bloatware.I am currently Running DJ05 with the JT1230 no voodoo kernal and the "red galaxy" theme that is pretty badass, I love it.Apparently the rumor on XDA is that they are actually working on a gingerbread upgrade and apparently they got it to boot in gingerbread, but they have to work out some bugs. that would be awesome if they got a working version up and running for the fascinate soon, then we wouldn't even need the damn froyo update, lol.does anyone know where i can download some cool custom icons? i love my red theme, but can't really find many red icons, it came with a few, but i'd like some more that are black or red
1/11/2011 12:50:32 PM
does anyone else hate the gingerbread keyboard on the DX? it came with the apex ROM, and the keys are like half the size of the 2.2 version. for someone with big hands like me, it's a pain in the ass. i hope with the official gingerbread release (if there is one), they leave in the option to change it
1/11/2011 2:40:04 PM
i feel so bad for the people getting all excited about iPhone on Verizon today. it's still the same limited iOS and shit...android is so much more customizable.
1/11/2011 3:13:07 PM
my only problem with the gingerbread keyboard on my backflip is that it for whatever reason doesn't have proper word suggestions, so it automatically tries to correct to people's names in my contact list. So when i use it, my sentences look like "Jay Bill Gabby Rogers it"
1/11/2011 3:56:13 PM
Best buy junked out my broken Galaxy Tab and I got a new one.
1/11/2011 3:58:27 PM
I've been using it on my Fascinate for a few weeks now and it seems decent. I always fat finger the keys but it does a pretty good job of guessing what I wanted.

i think all Android phones work fine out of the boxbut the fact that I CAN spend endless time dicking around with my phone makes the experience of Android all the more American for me.
1/11/2011 6:00:48 PM
yeah it's very very seldomly about making it work (outside of making a feature that isn't available out of the box work) but usually about making it work even better
1/11/2011 6:17:46 PM
I am gonna bet the 4g smartphone plans will not be unlimited. Probably a minimum of $30 for 3gb and $10gb over, and a $15 option with a tiny allowance and $rape if you go over. Verizon is not the company to give away the farm for free, you are gonna pay as much as they can extract from you.
1/11/2011 6:20:20 PM
^^^ simple people need simple phones. I'm glad Verizon is finally getting the iPhone so maybe all the whiny bitches will get off the android forums

^ sounds like you just have extremely bad luck. Several people in my family have X's, several close friends have them, and back when they came out I convinced multiple co-workers to get them (including 2 switching from att (iphones) to verizon).Out of everyone I named, no one is rooted, no one is running any major mods or anything. Just standard usage and apps and no problems with the phones. Everyone loves them /shrugIf that's not working great out of the box I'm not sure what is.[Edited on January 11, 2011 at 8:55 PM. ^don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they're unuseable. They're just far from perfect like most people want to make them out to be. 5 years ago I would have loved Android. Today, I'd rather have iOS based upon my experience with iPads & iPod Touches. Android 3.0 may change that and if Verizon would offer a phone with good specs and plain jane Android a la Nexus S that would possibly make a difference as well.Right now though it's just 2nd on my list and I have enough issues with it not working "right" that it pisses me off. I mean I had to set up a new Google Checkout account after the last update because Google doesn't have their shit straight and won't let me change default user. This after setting the phone back up with my personal account as default charged me for apps I already owned but setting it up with my work account as default (opposite how it was originally set up) gave me all the apps that I bought with the OTHER account (even though my work account was never set up under Checkout). Add up all the small things and toss in a few of the big ones (like the account thing) and I'm tired of dealing with it. I switched to OSX as my primary OS at home now for the same reason. Can't do as much with it but I don't have to mess with it.All that said, I will miss the 4.3" screen and some of the stuff like LPP and being able to swap batteries (plus I hate the iOS browsers).
1/11/2011 9:33:04 PM
looks like CM6 and possibly gingerbread may be coming to the fascinate soon.

I didn't know people still used IRC
1/12/2011 2:19:01 PM
ha apparently the android developers do. lol. And that should be .com instead of -com. Channel is #fascinate. Had to remember out how to use irc again.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=10548530CM6 Alpha for the Fascinate. Pretty much all it'll do is make calls but the dude has only had the phone for 6 days. He was the first to bring Froyo and Gingerbread to the Droid Eris.

I guess PDA NET is on sale today (for free tethering) http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2567247brings up a good question about the marketplace though...if my phone dies I can redownload all my purchased apps for free right?
1/12/2011 5:45:55 PM
as long as you use the same google account yes
1/12/2011 6:09:30 PM
Gingerbread (highly gimped) booted on the Fascinatehttp://img547.imageshack.us/img547/8979/20110113054033.jpg

WTF is up with these ringtones changing on their own? Anyone else have that issue?
1/13/2011 9:51:12 AM
oh good i'm not the only one that had that happen
1/13/2011 10:03:49 AM
my angry birds launcher isn't showing anymore even though its still installed. my angry birds seasons launcher is still there though. for some reason I can't uninstall cityID
1/13/2011 10:33:34 AM
cityid is verizon crapware and can't be uninstalled (well it technically can with root). As for the disappearing icon, try rebooting.
1/13/2011 10:37:11 AM
for the ringtones - sure they're not saved on your SD card and something else is using your SD card like you have it mounted to the PC or have winamp with automount installed and it's mounted to your PC?
1/13/2011 3:05:30 PM
is anyone else's alarm clock volume not very loud? i've got it turned up as high as it will go, and the vibration is actually louder than the ringtone i select. i've tried ringtones and mp3, and they both are really quiet.
1/13/2011 3:27:28 PM
do you have your volume set to be increasing? try a flat rate
1/13/2011 3:55:37 PM
mine randomly turns itself wide open and scares the shit out of me in the mornings lol. Granted it could just be a bug in the rom I'm running
1/13/2011 4:15:26 PM
a bug with stock 2.1 for my phone is that it won't snooze properly
1/13/2011 4:24:08 PM
my DX battery life is killing me...can barely last 1 work day (gps/wifi turned off)...
1/13/2011 4:25:57 PM
^ Do you have wireless at work? I was having the same problem but I switched to using wireless instead of 3g and now it lasts 4x longer. If not you can try juice defender app. That helped some too but not as much as switching wireless on. ^^^^As for alarms try alarm droid app.
1/13/2011 4:32:29 PM
^^hows your signal where you spend most of your time? If you spend a lot of time in a place where you get poor or no signal, your battery will drain like 20% an hour. If you're in one of those locations, you pretty much need to have your phone connected to a wi-fi network, even if you aren't going to be actively using your phone.
1/13/2011 7:31:30 PM
^^just installed juice defender and I can already tell a difference after 2 hours. thanks
1/13/2011 8:44:59 PM
1/13/2011 9:23:33 PM
hooray for good battery life on this new rom. OC'd 20%, but since I don't have blur syncing shit all the time I've been off the charger for 21 hours and have >50% battery life.
1/14/2011 10:42:24 AM
What's the deal with the mobile hot spot? do I have to pay verizon extra money to use this feature of the phone?? (Droid X)
1/14/2011 12:47:10 PM
yup. think it's like $20 for 2GB or something like thatha and let the carrier/samsung class action lawsuits begin. Really will be crap if tmobile is holding onto the Froyo update for the Vibrant to improve upcoming Vibrant 4G sales.http://phandroid.com/2011/01/14/ticked-xda-member-files-class-action-lawsuit-against-samsung-t-mobile-over-froyo/http://androidspin.com/2011/01/12/breaking-t-mobile-internals-confirm-samsung-is-holding-the-android-world-hostage/]
