I just reinstalled completed version 3.0 on my 3G. One problem after another. Ghost windows in the web browser, doesnt play music half the time to my pioneer head unit, wont show people's names sometimes when they call, cant hang the phone up some times, and hangs requiring 2 reboots to get the phone back. I hope the reinstall makes this better.

Just bought "Zenonia", an RPG for iPhone. It's pretty awesome. Reminds me of zelda on gameboy. Anyone else play any other RPG's?
6/25/2009 2:10:26 PM
Zenonia's the best one out right now.Underworlds is good, but really short--you can beat it in an hour or so. Supposedly there's an update coming to add content. The Quest kind of reminds me of Arena or Eye of the Beholder--the old-school early 3D RPGs. Seems like it has a lot of depth but the interface turned me off.

thank you JESUS.i'm SO glad to have cydia back.best apps evar: five icon dock, killexchangelock, and minicom (with a dock connector<->serial cable)and they all work with 3.0!
6/25/2009 9:41:16 PM
^5 item dock is awesome, should have been a built in feature. It just makes so much more sense.
6/25/2009 11:23:31 PM
now if i could get it to f'in work.
6/25/2009 11:26:30 PM
iphone docks (one of the top 10 accessories):can you not just plug it in the usb thingy?? does the dock do anything besides hold it up?[Edited on June 25, 2009 at 11:47 PM. Reason : ]

The universal dock? It can be used as just that it will also let you output to a tv or stereo system (though no OSD, only on the iPhone itself. It comes with an ir remote that can control basic functions.

Woot! Jailbreaking and unlocking the 3GS is possible and most likely coming soon. http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/130456145/24kpwn-lives-on-in-the-iphone-3gs]

So I'm new to the iPhone and haven't kept up with this thread until recently. What does jailbreaking let me do besides unlock the phone. Benefits, downsides?

wow I love this air mouse program ^^no downsides that I can think of. benefits are that you can have apps that can do anything..which is mainly stuff apple doesn't like like themes, SSH'ing into the phone, pda.net, etc. personally the only thing i like it for is sbsettings, 5 icon dock and being able to have a background all the time (not just when it's locked)[Edited on June 26, 2009 at 4:30 PM. 6/26/2009 4:28:05 PM
so you can still access the App store, itunes, and all other downloaded apps?
6/26/2009 5:43:24 PM
yea...air mouse is one of the first apps i got on my ipod touch..i use it daily for watching movies from my computer onto my tv...its great!as far as games go...i recently downloaded rolando lite...its much more fun than I had imagined. THe lite version has a few levels so i am still working on it. I am impressed...other than that...alot of the gameloft games are awesome on the 3GS. anyone have any other good app recomendations?

I gave up my jailbreak when 3.0 came out...the only app I was using was Categories.I'll go back once there's a peripheral with tangible controls for use with the NES/SNES emulators, but until then I don't really have a reason. The main thing I miss now is having the ability to re-spring without actually rebooting the device.
6/26/2009 6:39:26 PM
anybody know why my music is so soft i can barely hear it when listening to it over headphones?!? i don't think i've listened to any music in a week or so.. I can only assume this started after jailbreaking, though.any thoughts?
6/26/2009 6:48:32 PM
k nvm, got my headphones mixed up with a shitty pair apparently. works fine now on another set anybody have any headphone recommendations? looking at the Motorola S9's to work out in. using the original apple ear buds are a pain in the ass[Edited on June 26, 2009 at 7:42 PM. Reason : asdf]

Anyone had any issues with Apps randomly disappearing from their phones with 3.0? I had an app (tweetdeck) just randomly disappear of my home screen. I re-downloaded the app, and few hours later it was gone again. I have never had this issue before. Anyone else?
6/27/2009 12:53:42 AM
no... that's a bit strange.check the debug logs. if you're using a mac, load up Console (in the Utilities folder), click View > Show Log List, and find the iPhone logs (i think they're under MobileDevice)... should have something in there.
6/27/2009 5:05:10 AM
I really wish apple would add screen calibration to the iphone settings.....contrast, whitepoint, etc.

I highly doubt it, but is there any way to make your phone look for 3G only signals? I'm getting the weirdest thing going on. With my 1st gen, I never got more than 2-3 bars of signal around my house. 1-2 inside and +1 bar when I step outside. Generally speaking, the 3GS is behaving exactly the same way. The AT&T 3G availability map says that the 3G coverage area ends at the end of my road (which is about a mile away) so I wasn't expecting to get a 3G signal. Last week when my dad came by I stepped outside on the porch to show him tethering on my macbook. For some reason I happened to notice that I was receiving a full 5 bar 3G signal, which surprised me, but not that much because I hadn't really paid too much attention to the signal at that point. Across the tethered connection, my macbook got about 1.2 Mbps download from speedtest.net. A few minutes later I wondered how fast the connection would be just on the iPhone without tethering, so I went outside to try and get that 3G signal again. I spent about half an hour looking for ANY 3G signal but couldn't get one. The best I could get was the standard 2-3 bars of EDGE that I always got with the 1st gen. Then today I was walking to the neighbor's house and I looked down and happened to notice a 5 bar 3G signal, so I quickly opened up the speed test app and tested at ~2200Kbps. Almost immediately after the test, I lost the 3G signal and dropped down to 3 bars of EDGE. On the way home, I noticed the same thing and managed to run several tests, all of which tested right around 2000-2200Kbps. After I ran the tests, I started walking home again and after about 3 paces I lost signal altogether. I spent about 5 minutes trying to get that 3G signal again, standing in the exact spot where I was before, and moving the phone around, anything I could think of, but couldn't get the 3G signal again. Anybody know what the hell is going on? I can't believe that one second I can get a perfect 5 bar signal, and get NOTHING the next. Does 3G bounce of clouds or something? I'm at a loss here to figure out what's going on. In the long run, it really doesn't matter because when I'm at my house, I'll just use the WiFi, but still, it makes me curious if there's anything I can do to get better signals.
6/28/2009 6:25:13 PM
That's really strange. http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/27/iphone-3gs-takes-plunge-in-pool-while-shooting-video-and-live/

6/28/2009 8:06:53 PM
Does that actually work? It will only find 3G signals? Hmm...Obviously, I can't do that right now cause it's a 3GS and The dev team isn't releasing their jailbreak for the 3GS just yet. But I'll be interested in giving it a shot when they do release it.
6/28/2009 8:42:20 PM
yeah, it does work..[Edited on June 28, 2009 at 8:47 PM. Reason : but no idea how to do it without jailbreaking]
6/28/2009 8:47:44 PM
just buy a blackberry, problem solved
6/28/2009 9:59:56 PM
Yea was at the Apple store today browsing around....I held up my 3GS in comparison to ALL of the floor units and mine was significantly yellower/dim compared to each of their phones.Apple employee said I should try to get it swapped out and he could tell it was significantly dimmer....they didn't have time at the Genius bar so I am gonna try and go back tomorrow.I'm afraid to do it though, I know the exchange will involve me getting dead pixels or some shit. Also he said since I bought at ATT I'll get a service phone? WTF is a service phone?
6/28/2009 10:56:24 PM
I just messed w/ the tethering stuff over bluetooth. works great. very slick.
6/28/2009 11:18:21 PM
6/29/2009 12:59:33 AM
so I got the phone in friday night, dealt with activation, but so far the phone hasn't been ringing when someone calls. Well, it did for the first 2 calls, then after that it hasn't. maybe ATT system not updating fullly to push calls to the phone?no, it's not in silent mode.
6/29/2009 6:50:53 AM
My phone doesn't ring about 1/3 of the time either. I only know someone called when the Voicemail chime rings. And when I go to look at the phone it says "Missed Call, Voicemail" -- so I know the phone received the call...
6/29/2009 7:26:51 AM
Yeah, that's exactly what this is doing.
6/29/2009 7:50:17 AM
i've noticed if i'm on the phone when this is happening is so god damn ridiculously slow that obviously something is going on. for whatever reason though i've noticed the same problem..not as severe thoughnow, on to my latest problem: GPS does not work, only cell triangulation. I sat outside for 2 hours (was watching a movie at this outdoor event) going back and forth between the default GPS app and another GPS app that shows strength meters and shit.. both basically couldn't do anything beyond just triangulation. There are a LOT of people online saying they have the same problem since upgrading to 3.0 and they ended up getting theirs replaced by apple. I'd love to get it replaced since I'm still just barely within the 1 year warranty at this point.Any experience with this?
6/29/2009 11:38:12 AM
If anyone still has the first gen iPhone and updated to 3.0, did it get incredibly slow? I wonder if the original iPhone just isnt ready for 3.0, or if 3.0 was designed to remind me that I should upgrade my iPhone.
6/29/2009 2:23:53 PM
i had 3.0 on my 1st gen for a few days, didn't notice anything slow about it.
6/29/2009 2:27:45 PM
^^From my understanding there is now difference in hardware between the 1st gen and 2nd gen (3g) except for added features like GPS, 3G, etc. So you really shouldn't see a performance difference in 3.0. The only difference is between 1stgen and 3g vs 3gs
6/29/2009 2:38:18 PM
The processor/mainboard are mostly the same from what I understand between original and 3g as Mark said above, the 3gs is the only one that's faster. BTW, I have an original iphone that restores without any errors, or jail breaks no problem but get stuck in a reboot cycle afterwards. Any ideas/help would be appreciated.
6/29/2009 3:19:54 PM
Anyone notice corruption in their contacts under addresses? Is this a problem only i'm having? How could i fix this? I think it has to do with importing my contacts from outlook.
6/29/2009 7:33:57 PM
Doom Resurrection is out today.Better be worth the $10 I just spent on it. Guaranteed I play it for an hour or so tonight then very little afterwards.I'm such an app whore
