This is one recruiting battle I wouldn't mind losing.
4/2/2009 2:25:54 PM
^You have no idea how important it is that we land Vandenberg
4/2/2009 2:39:47 PM
Ok, smart guy. I think you're being a little melodramatic over a guy who may or may not play 10 minutes a game for us next year, and yes I know we currently lack a post presence. [Edited on April 2, 2009 at 2:48 PM. Reason : a]
4/2/2009 2:41:33 PM
to follow Floyd? no...he is looking for the right fit for him to develop and isnt really interested in playing at the highest profile school. he had a really good visit here and liked everything he sawhe really thought we had a crazy fan base and appreciated the fan's enthusiasm the kid is a solid player but since he plays overseas we dont know much about him. JV is a good shot blocker & rebounder who can use both hands on offensewe have had a lot of good luck with recruiting foreign players in the past a commitment from him would help our front court next year. ]

these guys appear to not be going to Kentucky to play for CalK.C. Ross-Miller, PGDallas, TXGod's AcademyScouts Grade: ESPNU 100ESPN100 Rank: 98Position Rank: 21

He was two over the limit before those decommits, right? That makes room for Henry, Cousins and one more.
4/2/2009 3:09:19 PM
but daniel orton is still committed to kentucky?

Kentucky's board is bad sometimes. Kansas' board is probably one of the better ones
4/2/2009 3:18:52 PM
4/2/2009 3:32:49 PM
^^ Our board would probably lighten up a little bit too if we had just won a national championship. Hell, a conference championship would probably do the trick.[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 3:35 PM. Reason : ^]
4/2/2009 3:35:24 PM
Kansas posters tend to know more about basketball than other board's fans.
4/2/2009 3:59:51 PM
Thats b/c there is nothing to do in Kansas but follow basketball. And I don't think our fans are any worse than a lot of other schools. We just get a bad rap b/c we're as rabid as elite schools and we have barely been a footnote in basketball since 1989. I blame the administration.
4/2/2009 4:24:30 PM
we might say a lot of crap, but for as crappy as our teams have been the past couple decades, we have the most passionate fans in the country.
4/2/2009 4:32:13 PM
^^^ That may be the case, but if their team perpetually stunk, wouldn't them knowing a lot and really caring about their basketball team lead them down the dark road of self-loathing that State fans constantly travel? Knowing/not knowing much about basketball has nothing to do with a fan getting discouraged when their team hasn't won anything of significance in the last 20 years.[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 4:33 PM. 4/2/2009 5:30:59 PM
i think vandenburg is probably a good pick up...if lowe is good at one thing, it's eyeing talent.
4/2/2009 5:38:17 PM
^Cousins would be better, but.....Eyeing 7 footers is even easier than eyeing talent! [Edited on April 2, 2009 at 5:56 PM. Reason : V thanks, your reruiting insight is valued. ]

Let me give you all a little dose of reality, because it's getting way too chipper in this thread. We are going to be asshole again next year. Lowe has shown he's not that great of a defensive coach, and we lost our best defender heading into next season. Until Lowe comes up with some a better plan on the defensive end, you can expect more of the same.

4/2/2009 6:18:39 PM
Remember Fells trying to guard Vasquez?Remember Javi guarding Vasquez?
4/2/2009 6:24:07 PM
Remember Fells guarding the best players on the opposing team the past couple years vs. 1 game where he got burned? Remember that? Losing Fells is not going to help our cause on our "already bad" defensive end of the ball, no matter how you want to spin it. Vasquez may have had Fells number, but Fells was a damn good defender in his years here.[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 6:27 PM. Reason : []

Whoops, didn't realize I was responding to OhBoyeee. Please strike my comments from the record.
4/2/2009 6:28:26 PM
Either way, respond or not (either way you know I'm right), nobody has directly tried to argue that we're going to be asshole again next year unless Lowe gets his shit together with the defense. You guys simply try to nit pick parts of my argument with some bogus ass shit like saying having a small team is going to solve our defensive problems (again, that is the dumbest shit ever posted in sports talk) and trying to downplay Fells loss on the defensive end, when you know damn right he was THE best defender on our squad, and occasionally would drop a double-double on the offensive end.
4/2/2009 6:41:42 PM
i like speculating about shit when we dont play another game for 7 months and we dont know what freshman we're getting next year
4/2/2009 6:44:28 PM
call it an educated guess, twista.haha, adder retracted his post saying that having a small team will improve us on the defensive end.. sobering up there, adder?[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 6:56 PM. Reason : []

Fuck it
4/2/2009 6:56:04 PM
Ernie: In general smaller quicker teams are better at forcing turnovers and that is something we had trouble with this year. Also you can apply more defensive pressure because if you are beat by your man the team has the speed to recover. [Edited on April 2, 2009 at 6:59 PM. Reason : Still ignoring ohiloveboyeees]
4/2/2009 6:58:09 PM
I agree with that completelyI'd still like to have at least the option of putting a big man on the court at times, though
4/2/2009 7:03:50 PM
4/2/2009 7:08:34 PM
Another big man option would be good but I don't think it is required for us to be able to play defense.Ernie: What do you think of us losing fells. I think he was a good defensive option for us but I think he was often inconsistent on the defensive end (going under screens that he should have gone around etc.) and overall I think that players like Javi and CJ will easily replace his contribution to the team defensively.[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 7:12 PM. Reason : adfasdf]
4/2/2009 7:09:38 PM
hey, adder, should we recruit midgets so our team will be the best defensive team in the nation?
4/2/2009 7:18:31 PM
4/2/2009 7:22:09 PM
i agree with you there adder. fells definitely had the ability to be our best defender, and often times was, but sometimes he'd become a victim of relying on his athletic ability rather than playing a man straight up. he got caught on screens too much this past year and let his man get past him to go for a block from behind instead of staying in front and playing sound defense. we'll miss him no doubt, but we have some guys coming up that can be as good, if not better.
4/2/2009 7:26:36 PM
^ was probably a personal issue with the player, had nothing to do with the coach, RIGHT?! And by the way I completely disagree with your statement.. Fells to NC State as Ginyard to UNC.It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.. we'll find out next year how much better our defense will be from the past 3 years. Time and more time. I got it.[Edited on April 2, 2009 at 7:32 PM. Reason : []
4/2/2009 7:30:57 PM
^^I also think that oftentimes he was forced into guarding players that were smaller and quicker than he was which would put him at a disadvantage. His focus was always questionable though. I remember he didn't even really play as a freshman because of that.
4/2/2009 7:33:40 PM
OhBoyeee is the Jay Cutler of TWW. Trade 'em to the bears, yo...
4/2/2009 7:58:25 PM
fells got burned a lot on D. Overall he was more of an asset than a negative there (especially because he pretty much ALWAYS drew the hardest assignment) but let's not act like we just lost fucking Bruce Bowen or that Vasquez was the only guy who ever gave him trouble
4/2/2009 8:07:31 PM
we should hire brian clifton!i feel like the good wall could do for our program from an exposure and credibility standpoint would be worth far more than whatever we paid clifton.(i'm only semi-serious)
4/2/2009 8:13:14 PM
^at least its about "recruiting"
4/2/2009 9:54:26 PM
to all the morons that said we didn't want john wall because unc/duke didn't recruit him because of "character issues" or something shady behind the scenes or whatever dumbass reason you gave...http://coast2coastrecruiting.blogspot.com/2009/04/roy-williams-calls-john-wall.htmlstop posting please.
4/3/2009 12:49:18 PM
Why is J. Capers your end all authority?
4/3/2009 12:52:24 PM
That's just great. Lawson leaves and Wall steps right in.At this point I am just hoping Wall goes to Kentucky because he is not coming here.
