I've read articles about this strategy. It's hard to say but basically, they usually say that if all players are playing optimally then it is a valid strategy with almost any two cards when you will be heads up. So my question is, was he going all in almost every time in the SB?
5/17/2006 2:27:38 PM
I gotta go to work, so I'll check this again later.... but he only pushed when he seemed legit. He would check the BB if it was a limped pot into him, but then push if he connected. He would give walks.

^^^^^ Well it sounds like he was just willing to walk the coin flip tight rope. Several people play this way but in a matter of 1 hand you can find yourself behind 4 to 1 right off the bat. However, you can win a sizable tourney w/o gambling at least some.

^^^^Eh, more like she was distracting me just like another hot girl manages to do sometimes, pretty good at the Hollywooding too (u should remember the hand)^^^Unless you've seen the schlong I'm gonna have to go on and disagree with you there^^I actually start feeling unconfortable around 10. I'd rather push here bc if I double up (which im hoping I will) then Ill have an M of 20 which gives me more options on how to play. I refuse to be short stack for longer than a round...you gotta gamble it up to get some chips eventually so why not now (shoulda been earlier tho)^yous bes ah pro so i aint gon say shit tuh yah

Point of order question about a tournament.I move all in for 6xBB. People sitting around immediately start heckling the 2 players left to call and check it down. One guy has a huge stack, the second guy to act has a decent sized stack and had just made a comment about how big the first guys stack was. Both call me, and before the flop comes, the second guy flips over his cards as if he is checking it down with the other guy.At this point, what is the dealer supposed to do?Didn't know where to look for this information so I figured I would ask here...Note, there were 6 players left, only 2 more left in the said hand.[Edited on May 18, 2006 at 12:03 AM. really, the turned hand is dead instantlyi mean yea they can agree to check it downbut the minute he exposes a card in a tourney before ther hand is over, it is a dead hand[Edited on May 18, 2006 at 12:06 AM. Reason : .]
5/18/2006 12:06:20 AM
^ Actually not true. In most tourneys including WPT Championship (yes it happened at my table there), the player only gets a warning the first time... then a 20 minute penalty the second time. The hand is definitely not declared dead the first time (even when the player does it on purpose), however, the second time, I'm not sure about dead or not as I've never seen that second time happen.^^^ Matt's article is TOO good. Read away and make sure you know everything you've read there. Not rocket science, but I kinda hate how good the info. is that is freely, readily available at pocketfives.[Edited on May 18, 2006 at 3:50 AM. Reason : .]

I quit playing online in January. With exception of using $50 to try to cash in a 35K guaranteed. I just loaded on stars again and made 100 in like an hour on a 3/6 table. I'm only going to be doing limit for a while and see how that goes.

for you guys that have played with Akash in the 2/4 nl before, how do you hadnle a player like him?i found myself forcing a call down with 2nd pair a few times knowing i was probably beat a few times, but just had to.??
5/20/2006 3:45:21 AM
I just call with pretty much any ok hand preflop and hope I hit. If I do then I usually find myself calling a big raise on the flop and then go all in over the top of him on the turn depending on the circumstances. Assuming you have a real hand, opposed to something like second pair. Just takes some patience. BTW I haven't played their 2/4 nl in months. Is pretty much everyone still god awful?
5/20/2006 10:52:09 AM
from what i understand, it got bad for a few months, but is back on track. theres a new core group of guys that seem to be there everytime im there, and they always seem hellbend on dropping lots of cash. (the rather thuggish group, for those of you who know what im talking about).I'll just detail the largest pot of the night for david, so he can get an idea as to what its like.Any time both Sai, Akash, and a few other action monkeys are at the table, it gets nice.so this newer guy is UTG and bumps it up to 21. Sai calls at UTG+1 with close to 550 or so, folds around (including me) to the CO who calls, a guy who had his first night at the club thursday night. hes stuck about a buyin, but building back to about 500 when this hand starts. Sai has him covered. UTG+1 has about 250. Akash is in the BB, and calls as well.flop comes 9s 6s 2h Akash checks, UTG bets out $50, Sai goes all-in, for a shitton. CO calls, and Sai has him covered by about 75. Akash goes into the tank (!!!!!) with about 300 behind. he says he has a gutshot and it looks like hes thinking of gambling, buts worried about a flush draw being out there. eventually he folds, UTG folds saying he had QQ.Sai flips J9o.CO has KsQs.Td on the turn, Akash flips out saying he had T7. River is the 9c.the nines hold for a >1k pot.christ

Ok, I don't post here much, but I was @ PKR friday night and Akash is one of my favorite people @ the game (this is Mike D). The first thing that you have to realize is that Akash IS a poker player and a pretty damned good one at that. He's just a bit too much of a gambler to make consistent money and the money doesn't mean much to him. Poker is his "release". If he were to play tourneys, especially bigger tourneys (e.g. $1K plus), I think he would do very well compared to most players. Akash will play your hand more than he will play his and your betting/behavior in the hand will make all the difference against Akash.I'd write more, but I don't want to post his biography online. If you'd like to talk more about how he plays, hit me up in the smoking room @ PKR sometime.- Mike
5/21/2006 3:19:28 AM
Mike D,This is Ben,Please post here more, you are a great player and would be a very good addition to the more serious posts here.I agree that Akash is a very good player, theres no doubt about that. He's one of the few players at pkr that really, really scare me at the game when he shows up, theres no doubt about that.
5/21/2006 3:32:02 AM
you know i have been outta raleigh too long when MIKE FUCKING D is a good player... LOL.Next thing you know Greg will be considered a rounder.
5/21/2006 8:40:37 AM
I'll assume you're joking Rob... but just in case... Mike D is definitely the best of the bunch that I used to play with in Raleigh who still lives there and plays some at pkr from time to time. (I'd but Rooper a bit above him - in cash games, not tourneys - but as you probably know, Roop moved out to Vegas with me). I know that Ben (whose play I also put pretty high) will probably agree.Mike's assessment of Akash is dead on too. Akash does not take into account the stakes he's playing and the players he's playing against, and that's his fatal flaw, the reason he loses badly overall there. However, he does have a lot more poker sense than a lot of the players there, but because he doesn't play those stakes properly, it's fairly easy to exploit this weakness against him. I had nights where Akash really got to me too, and although I made a lot overall at PKR, and had a fair number of big losing nights too - on most of those nights, Akash won big.[Edited on May 21, 2006 at 9:36 AM. Still playing 3/6 online. I think I've played about 20 hours and am down $50 overall. I keep calling down too much. FinI just went bust in a hand I flopped a set and it was raised and capped with 3 people in on every street. Both of them chased down a straight.
