since no one reads the 49th postlol. From Samsung's twitter page:
1/3/2011 9:07:11 AM
gah, I've been hearing that since I bought my epic in October
1/3/2011 10:36:30 AM
Somebody answer my question
1/3/2011 12:13:43 PM
don't think there is aside from downloading one of the other im apps that allow google talk since the native app is tied to the gmail account used when setting up the phone.
1/3/2011 12:32:10 PM
^^You mean you started using her phone without clearing her data off? Just do a factory reset...it takes 5 minutes and you can set up your stuff using your google ID.
1/3/2011 2:18:46 PM
he's trying to get by without going through all that.
1/3/2011 2:32:37 PM
^Exactly..don't wanna lose the installed apps..
1/3/2011 2:41:32 PM
i basically hard reset nightly when i flash a new nightly rom...just do a mybackup before you do and everything will be back exactly the way you want within 10 minutes.

interesting speculation on Honeycomb availability. Would suck for Galaxy Tab ownershttp://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2375016,00.asp

1/3/2011 5:06:08 PM
^Wouldn't upset me if it stayed slightly different since while similar, tablets and phones are pretty different.
1/3/2011 9:16:23 PM
^Right, but I read that as there will be multiple paths for tablets as well as multiple paths for phones.
1/3/2011 9:41:27 PM
It'll probably end up being similar to what is currently being down with phones: if you aren't on modern hardware, your phone will stop receiving modern OS updates.
1/3/2011 10:26:43 PM
^ The thing I hate about that is your hardware ceases to be "modern" by Android standards if it's more than 9 months old.
1/4/2011 6:35:00 AM
ha yeah. These phones are worse than computers were a while back. Evo Shift 4G rumored to be coming to Sprint next week. keyboard looks blahhttp://www.engadget.com/2011/01/03/htc-evo-shift-4g-in-the-wild/

whats everybody's top 5+ apps/games/tricks for Android?mine are:1 - Winamp for music playing duties2 - Still killing some Angry Birds (working on Seasons atm)3 - Craigsnotifica - Receive notifications when new items are posted that match your search criteria4 - Musicbox - For MP3 downloads...works beautifully (though the preview feature is a little buggy)5 - I don't charge my very phone much...I just have a few extra $10 batteries on chargers at home and work (and a spare in the car) so I don't ever have to worry about a dead phone.6 - This isn't much of a trick, but I use have a number of internet shortcuts on my desktop for one tap access to the WRAL Traffic map, WRAL doppler radar, weather underground etc...what shortcuts do you use?7 - Oh and Astro to access the file system of the phone and SD card. I'm sure most knoe about this, but this is for the ones that don't...8 - DopeWars App. Enough said.9 - Hapi Podcast for all things podcasting. Seems to work well enough but I'm not a power user by any means.10 - Prankdial for spoof calls11 - TelsaLED for flashlight duties because a) it's bright as hell and b) it's got a widget]

Can someone tell me what the deal is with everything linked to my hotmail account. My gmail account shit runs fine. ThanksOh and my phone won't let me download lookout. [Edited on January 4, 2011 at 10:40 AM. Reason : hju]
1/4/2011 10:36:26 AM
oh yeah I forgot about:12 - Lookout security - The "find my phone" feature is pretty badass. It'd be cooler if they had a remote wipe feature tho...

In March I am due for an upgrade. What awesome Verizon Android should I start salivating over?
1/4/2011 10:59:26 AM
^^They do... you have to upgrade to premium though. I just installed the program yesterday.
1/4/2011 11:06:31 AM
^^ you should have a pretty good stock of lte/dual core phones to choose from, along with the htc incredible hd/thunderbolt/mocha whatever. kinda wish i had waited before pulling the trigger on the droid x, but i was more scared of losing the option for unlimited data.
1/4/2011 11:49:39 AM
looks like verizon is about to piss off a lot of people. For activations after Jan 16, they'll no longer be offering annual upgrades nor the NE2 discount. http://www.androidcentral.com/verizon-changing-its-upgrade-policy-youll-have-wait-20-months-new-phone
1/4/2011 12:55:13 PM
That's really, really annoying and stupid.
1/4/2011 1:05:58 PM
so basically you can get a discounted phone every year, but if you don't get it within the 12th month you lose the upgrade? what kind of half-baked thinking is that?
1/4/2011 1:15:25 PM
Only for suckers that get the two year agreement.Get a one year contract, pay the extra $40 for the phone upfront, and don't worry about it.
1/4/2011 1:17:08 PM
^ true but the BOGOs that people like only apply to 2 yr contracts^^ and my understanding is that they're getting rid of annual upgrades for 2 yr contracts all together. They do have it worded kind of funny by saying months 13-20 so who knows.
1/4/2011 1:22:09 PM
i'm assuming that since the wife and i upgraded to droid x's in december, we'd just keep the status quo right? shirley, verizon doesn't want that kind of hassle from millions of pissed off current subscribers
1/4/2011 1:24:15 PM
yeah you'd still keep your annual upgrade and NE2 discount on the main line but once you upgrade again, you'll be in the no annual upgrade/no NE2 discount.
1/4/2011 1:37:14 PM
LOL @ shirley
1/4/2011 2:02:07 PM
i got a droid x at the end of Dec...hoping that thunderbolt or whatever its called comes out within my 30 day window
1/4/2011 2:49:57 PM
ha, it'll probably be on day 31.
1/4/2011 2:53:02 PM
from just reading the specs, i'm kinda disappointed that the thunderbolt isn't going to be dual core, or be shipped with gingerbread. unless they release it by next wednesday, i can't get one anyway, so maybe it works out.
1/4/2011 3:03:48 PM
i just saw a leaked spec sheet that said it was dual core...hmmm
1/4/2011 3:36:28 PM
^ was that the pipe dream specs?
1/4/2011 3:39:23 PM
hmm, could've sworn that it was just going to be a 1MHz snapdragon processor. if not, then that changes my opinion some
1/4/2011 3:44:28 PM
^^i dont know, all i remember was the dual-core comment from a "leak" today...regardless, we have to wait til Thursday to find out http://www.androidgoo.com/htc-android-phones/htc-thunderbolt-4g-lte-specs-leaked.htmlthis was it[Edited on January 4, 2011 at 4:13 PM. 1/4/2011 4:07:52 PM
yeah, that's the specs that were supposedly leaked last week but everyone is calling BS on it.

What does LG generally do to their Android? Change it up much, or leave it mostly stock?
1/4/2011 8:24:44 PM
Has anyone had luck rooting their samsung galaxy s? I've tried a few places and it hasn't worked.

chatter that the thunderbolt might be released this month sometime. i might just have to sell my x on ebay and pay the difference for the full price (if the spec sheet is accurate)
1/5/2011 10:58:19 AM
yeah, I'm a little skeptical of those specs. Guess we'll see tomorrow. I'll have to unblock facebook at work so I can watch the live webcast on their facebook page.
1/5/2011 11:12:07 AM

i think that's a typo, and was supposed to say 2.2.1but still, no gingerbread, no dual core, no hdmi...doesn't really strike me as a must have 4G phone[Edited on January 5, 2011 at 11:36 AM. Reason : .]
