FYI guys, for new phone or renewals, if you go through bing.com, search for ATT WIRELESS, and go to the AT&T site that way, you get 35% cashback. That's 100+ bucks off a new phone, like 150 off an upgraded 32gb.
6/22/2009 9:48:18 PM
heh that sure seems backwards
6/22/2009 9:55:29 PM
Hey, don't hate the player, love the game.Without upgrade eligibility, I can go to the 32gb 3GS for less than 100 bucks after selling the 3G + cashback.
6/22/2009 10:00:54 PM
^is there any way to use that instore?
6/22/2009 10:11:21 PM
you can probably find a pc with an internet connection in an apple store
6/22/2009 10:21:11 PM
well first of all, i don't even see the offer anymore.http://gizmodo.com/5297091/get-35-off-the-iphone-3gs-if-you-use-bingI don't see any 35% Cashback sponsored link...And there's no instore pickup option on AT&T's website. Its shipping direct only.
6/22/2009 10:25:51 PM
This will most definitely not work for upgrades. It only works for new purchases.
6/22/2009 10:28:22 PM
http://www.bing.com/search?q=att+wireless&go=&form=QBLHit's there for me - i'm not sure why noen didn't just provide the link
6/22/2009 10:28:57 PM
6/22/2009 10:32:59 PM
hrmm thats cool. mine's not an upgrade though, so let me try.edit: am i a retard or what? i dont see any 35% links in the link... just a bunch of normal search results...[Edited on June 22, 2009 at 10:53 PM. Reason : fdfd]

saweet. So what do you think about trying to use this at a local AT&T store?
6/22/2009 11:13:33 PM
good luck with thatit's probably not even worth the gas to try it
6/22/2009 11:16:42 PM
yeh. im' gonna try to find one locally tomorrow. i'd sort of like to have it before i leave wed for boston. itd be handy to have the navigation/maps, music, etc. then you don't get cash back for 60+ days. meh
6/22/2009 11:18:29 PM
first Push apps are starting to appear. AIM, BeeJiveIM, TruPhone, ETrade are live
6/23/2009 12:38:51 AM
^^apple stores have em, AT&T stores dont.im about 150 deep in the preorder queue
6/23/2009 12:59:54 AM
This will not work in store. This only works by purchasing through bing.com cashback (it's the same deal that Live cashback was). I didn't post the link, because it's not hard to go to bing.com and just type in the damn words And yes, you still get the 35% cashback on upgrades. Just click the sponsored link from bing.com, login to you account and purchase the upgrade. This is not 35% OFF of your purchase, it's 35% cash back. The cashback shows up in your bing.com cashback account in a couple of days after your purchase is processed. It's not an instant rebate.

^Yep, I think it was a loophole that people were taking advantage of that they finally closed. Makes me wish I had went ahead and jumped on it earlier (like when I posted the cashback deal 6 pages ago).

i'll just stick with 3G then

so i have an accessory questions....I currently plug my iPhone into the aux jack in my car that is hidden inside the center console...sounds great, etc.Is there any device I can buy that I can plug into the aux jack that would communicate with the device over bluetooth to stream the music from the phone to the unit and thru the aux port?Would be nice to hide the unit in the console and just hop in the car and start the music.edit :Also, how does the quality of music streamed over bluetooth compare to straight aux in?[Edited on June 23, 2009 at 8:49 AM. Digital compass is defin. my favorite new feature. Don't know how i lived without it before.
6/23/2009 9:37:40 AM
^^^badass, thanks!

6/23/2009 9:45:59 AM
yea sorry..didnt realize how fast the thread had went through the last few pages
6/23/2009 9:59:02 AM
I wish they had a queue feature for the app store...for the >10MB applications that you can't DL until connected to WiFi.And I still hate how limited the the appointment alert system is. 2 days in advance is the most you can do??? and the alerts don't require you to click on them, making it easy to swipe right past them if you're not paying close attention. In outlook they keep popping up until you acknowledge them and click ok. is the OSX calendar program (whatever its called) this limited?
6/23/2009 10:23:02 AM
Now that I know this kind of device exists, is that the best option?Does quality vary, or am I just looking for anything that supports Bluetooth audio streaming?
6/23/2009 10:24:13 AM
Anyone try out Star Defense yet? Looks awesome. 3d tower defense in space. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agBMHwtdLJ0^it's also going to kill your battery. If you plug it into the car you might as well have a dock with power+aux. I guess it all depends on if you charge your iPhone in your car or not. [Edited on June 23, 2009 at 10:33 AM. Reason : .]
6/23/2009 10:31:43 AM
my headunit in my car supports bluetooth streaming and I have been LOVING it. Best feature of 3.0 so far to me. It sounds fantastic in my opinion.
6/23/2009 10:35:01 AM
^^The key feature with the Bluetooth though is you don't hav to take the phone out of your pocket to start playback
6/23/2009 11:02:18 AM
^so that's assuming you're already listening to music when you get into the car? and it automatically switches to the car speakers? that sound cool.
6/23/2009 11:14:15 AM
what's so great about the compass?
6/23/2009 11:28:58 AM
^i was being partially sarcastic, but in actuality it's pretty awesome. For example with the old 3g if you were using the maps feature and in a city trying to navigate you'd have to find street signs or start walking to tell which direction you're going, but with the compass it orients the map to which direction you're facing so you can just turn and start walking. Kind of like using a map and compass in boyscout but all in one.
6/23/2009 11:37:37 AM
If you lived in NYC (as anybody who has come out of a new subway stations knows well) you would love the freaking compass....that in itself is almost worth the upgrade to me.
6/23/2009 12:47:19 PM
yeah if you ever walk anywhere (especially in cities) the compass is awesome. i was in downtown Raleigh a few days ago and the GPS was all jacked up..guess I haven't used it right around the taller buildings before. it really goes haywire.
6/23/2009 2:04:13 PM
should my "maps" application be turning with the compass on its own, or is there some setting/action I have to take to get the maps to turn to the correct compass direction?
6/23/2009 2:19:50 PM
Tap the "find me" button on the bottom left once for gps, then twice for compass. It'll orient itself.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfe3C-kBVPYDexter for iPhone![Edited on June 23, 2009 at 2:40 PM. Reason : .]

So i emailed a photo using the camera and the default picture was 800 by 600. Does it decrease it for emailing? How do i send/take a 3mp picture?-Ok it takes them at 2048 by 1536 but emails them at 800 by 600. that sucks. So my shitty windows mobile phone could at least send full resolution 1.3 MP photos, but the iPhone downsizes them to .48 MP for quick emailing? Why hasn't anyone else noticed this?[Edited on June 23, 2009 at 3:49 PM. Reason : .]
6/23/2009 3:31:21 PM
^whats wrong with that? Sounds like a smart move. If I'm emailing photos directly from my phone, chances are i'm not at home so I just want to get it sent as quickly and easily as possible and not have to worry about my connection. If I want to send the full res photos I would just download them to my Mac/PC and send them that way.Even iPhoto resizes your images to 'small, medium, large' for quick emailing.I am curious what size the images are if i upload them to my mobileme gallery. Let me try that and report back...I would expect that would at least have the option for higher res. I did test uploading a video to mobileme and the process was quite painless and slick.

6/23/2009 4:17:01 PM
got mine today. woot. It is quite snappy. muy bien.
6/23/2009 4:24:59 PM
^^not true at all. There's a big difference between looking at a .5MP photo and a 3MP photo. If i'm at a job site taking a picture of a roof to email to someone, i obviously want to send the higher resolution photo and not the crappy 800 by 600 one. I ran into this issue today.Any previous phone i've had could email higher than .5MP photos. I just thought the iPhone would be able to also.[Edited on June 23, 2009 at 4:46 PM. Reason : .]
6/23/2009 4:43:41 PM
Why would they need the high res photo? It still looks good to view both ways. Maybe not to print but just viewing it on another mobile device or desktop is more than fine.
6/23/2009 4:55:55 PM
Yeah i guess. I just assumed because older phones could send the entire photo the iPhone would be able to.[Edited on June 23, 2009 at 5:01 PM. Reason : willyummm said i should get a real phone. ]

^^the point is to make it a quick easy process and not having to wait around for an image to send because its huge which is the whole concept behind the iPhone. Everything needs to be quick and snappy.
