Quote :
"Because federal spending will not be cut alongside it and in fact, it will be increased."

So it seems like you are saying the stock market gains will be outpaced by the debt, which is a strong argument. The issue is that these "reasonable republican voters" see it as a binary option. Republicans who will increase the debt or democrats who will increase the debt.

Quote :
"I've not had a year-over-year raise that is higher than inflation (or even is equivalent to inflation) since I started my professional career in 2008 "

Thats all under Obama. Now do you see why so many reasonable people wanted to try something different?

Quote :
"The only way anyone who is not rich sees money from this is if the economy grows significantly simultaneously and grows enough for wages to increase."

The reasonable republicans understand this. They just rather the rich people have the money than the government have the money. The question really is that simple. These are poeple who think there is greed and corruption in both groups of people but the well-intended people in the government will waste the money all of the time while the rich INDIVIDUALS will create jobs and innovation most of the time. They also see it as a moral obligation to let the individuals do as they please with "their money". Even poor republicans feel this way.

Again, I shouldn't have to say this, but I'm just explaining how they think. This isn't how I think. The reason I hate the democrat party is because they give these people evidence that support their beliefes. I don't think government wastes money, but I do think democrats/liberals do with weak/fake policies that serve corpoerate interests.

In more "It's 2017 and nothing makes sense anymore" news, Roy Moore had a speaker at his rally tell a story about how they went to a brothel that had underage girls. Now Roy and this guy left, even though the girls were "very pretty" but were cool with their buddy staying the night.

(Relevant to this is that Roy Moore was the commander of the 188th MP Company, he could have made the 3rd guy leave the underage brothel with them)

The crowd was laughing at this story about child sex slaves

Brietbart is of course describing this as, "Moving character testimony."

So the story is that Roy Moore left the brothel but didn't shut it down and end child prostitution in Vietnam once and for all?

No matter what happens today, the GOP is kinda fucked by this election.

Moore wins, and the entire nation is disgusted and outraged and nobody will shut up about it, which could possibly energize young liberals to actually got off their asses to vote for a change.

He loses, and it sends a huge message to the GOP that creeps and sexual predators have been put on notice.

I'm predicting a Moore 'W', because I've lost all faith in humanity though

^^It definitely is but its about as strong as the tired capitalist argument using failed communist economies as examples against government programs.

It'd be in better wisdom to explain what needs to be done with the money and how that would be more effective than the tax cuts because the money IS currently being wasted. That is why I think dangerous are so dangerous. They give government programs a bad name with policy that has been compromised by special interests.

"Sen. John McCain, on January 20, 2010, had this to say about the Senate halting work on the Affordable Care Act until Sen.-elect Scott Brown (R-MA) could be seated.

So here we are, and now the rumors are that they will jam this proposal through the House of Representatives and then bypass what has always been the normal legislative process. They should not do that. The American people have spoken. The people of Massachusetts have spoken for the rest of America: Stop this process, sit down in open and transparent negotiations, and let's begin from the beginning.
Here's Mitch McConnell, that same day on the Senate floor:

“We need to move in a new direction—a dramatically new direction. That is the message of Virginia. That is the message of New Jersey. That is the message of Massachusetts.”"

What’s the GOP end goal here with Mueller? I mean the FBI Director is a Republican. So was the old one. So is the special counsel. I’m not even sure what their goal is? Only Trump fanboys can investigate Trump? Do they want Don Jr to run it?

Trump's goal is to end the investigation.

The GOP's goal is to keep him in office long enough to pass all their policies.

The Trump base's goal is to turn our nation into a heterosexual male, white, christian autocracy.

At the moment, the GOP thinks it's okay to utilize the support of the base to get their policies passed. If you look in history, when this happens, things go very wrong.

Theres theories floating on twitter trump is just trying to discredit the investigation to pardon who he can afterward (seems like Mueller has structured the plea deals to be state-level charges, which trump can't pardon).

This also serves maybe even minimally to keep the base voting for Trumpism where they otherwise wouldnt

Even with some vocal complicit GOPers in congress i can't see how firing mueller would work out for Trump/GOP

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2017/business/corporations-tax-cut-gop-tax-bill/?utm_term=.281dbeb91cf4

Quote :
"President Trump and Republicans have repeatedly sold their tax bill to the public as a way to make American businesses more competitive so companies will turn around and hire more workers and raise wages. Critics of the plan say the massive reduction in the corporate tax rate from 35 to 21 percent, among other changes favoring business, will lead to more money in the hands of shareholders.

The Washington Post looked at what America’s 20 largest companies in the Fortune 500 say about taxes. Nearly all have vocally supported the GOP bill. Many say at least some of the extra money would probably go to shareholders via higher dividends. Other popular plans for additional cash include: looking for other companies to buy and paying down debt. Only two — AT&T and CVS — have made explicit promises to hire workers. Apple and Kroger executives have made vague statements that they would probably hire more people. Not a single company has said it will raise wages, although AT&T announced a one-time special bonus for workers after Trump signs the bill."

I think Exxon's is my favorite:

Quote :
"EXXON MOBIL
Negative tax rate last year, although in other years, Exxon has paid as high as 33 percent. Priority is dividends. Exxon Mobil Vice President of Investor Relations Jeffrey Woodbury said in October:

“The first things that are being funded are our dividends and our investment program. And if there’s any cash left at that point given that the corporation does not want to hold large cash reserves, it’s at that point that we will look for what the next best thing is. And maybe if we have some debt maturing, we’ll pay that debt down.”"

they are claiming that the other money would go to increased innovation, which leads to new "spinoff" growth. If you're not hiring more people, and you're increasing profit, you're either becoming a better investment (drawing in even more money), lowering prices, increasing volume, r&d, or making better shit in general. This is how capitalism works. The money isn't supposed to flow down.

Would have been awesome if the tax cut came with a min-wage increase. But that would have made too much sense and satisfied too many parties and groups. Can't have that!

I mean, it would have been nice if the tax cuts had come with a reduction in government spending. Then they should have made the non-corporate tax cuts permanent, and every one actually would win.

+1 for conservative credibility though, below, haha:

Those bonus payments are horseshit. They're one-time bonuses, the employees will clear maybe 600 after taxes and they are a drop in the bucket compared to what will be distributed back to shareholders.

I'm not saying you have to give it to your employees. But that money isn't going to go into infrastructure, innovation and research investments within their respective companies, it's going to be flipped to their shareholders via dividends.

Good on the minimum wage raises though, that's definitely solid. Now we'll just wait and see how many employees they fire to "manage costs."

I'm okay with some of the corporate tax changes, but the idea that this will trickle down to workers is nonsense. You can't say "$15/hr minimum wage is bad because companies will replace workers with robots" and also say "tax savings are good because companies will benevolently pass that money to workers" at the same time

I am really enjoying watching the evolution of the liberal meltdown.
